I am on the FX350 and it is a Beast

  • I'm extremely happy to be back riding my 2017n Husky FX350 after almost a year from a nasty crash last spring.
    Of all the injuries I've had over the years, I'd have to say that tearing my shoulder all to hell has to have been the toughest to deal with and worst to recover from.
    You don't think about how much you need your right arm until you've lost complete use of it for almost a year.
    I've been making changes to this bike for some time now in hopes of making it more suitable to this kind of trail riding. Not being able to ride the bike had the costly effect of wanting to throw money at it instead.
    Last year I changed the stock fuel rail, fuel filter and exhaust manifold out to aftermarket units by KTM Husky.com. Those units made a significant change but did not give me all what I was looking for.
    Also added a flywheel weight which helped a lot for rolling over obstacles but the motor still I had the odd issue with stalling when lugged too low.
    I removed the MidWest Mountain Levers added a Clake 1 Light Clutch Lever for better clutch control on longer rides due to worn out hands and the heavy Clutch these bikes have.
    Then at a moment of weakness, I bought and installed an FMF Ti-Carbon F4.1 Silencer and a Vortex ECU, these items were the single biggest game changer for this bike.
    Sorry it has taken so long to produce another video but it real hard to make them without footage from riding...

    Riding a 16 350 xcf. What order would you purchase the mods in? Any you wouldn’t do again? Thanks in advance. Very awesome trails you there! I too am coming back from my second shoulder injury. Your bike just LUGS!

    • @6at32off
      @6at32off  5 лет назад +2

      Not sure how the '16 350XCF compares to the '17 FX350 Husky so cannot honestly say what would be needed on your KTM if anything at all.
      If I had it to do again I'd probably do everything I did all over again the same way. Not sure the exhaust manifold is at all necessary or if it does much but changing the fuel rail and filter just make sence to me, the stock stuff was garbage. The FMF pipe was pure bling, an aftermarket approved spark arrestor would suffice. My hands are in a bad way with arthritis so the Clake 1 is also a no brainer for me. The Vortex also isn't needed unless you're really wanting a little extra pep. The 13 tooth front sprocket is needed for sure for tight single track. If you like your bike with more snap then don't put on a flywheel weight, if you want more grunt in the slow stuff then it's worth it. Don't buy the Husky steering damper, it sucks, if you want / think you need one then get a Scott's. The Seat Concepts seat is also a no brainer and one of the 1st things I'd do. Hate hard seats for those times when I need to sit. All the protection equipment is a matter of individual choice. IBEX rear tire, no contest IMO, can't be beat but get heavy duty dual rims locks and I use the extra heavy duty tubes instead of Tubeless. These bikes are amazing right out of the box, they're just made for higher speed riding. A lot of the flameouts can be controlled with an adjustment of the TPI and raising the idle a few hundred RPM. I enjoyed building this bike up, didn't have an issue spending the money on it and don't feel anything was waisted. Some might disagree but that's cool.

      Pitt Bull xcf 350 is basically the KTM version FX 350.

      KTM / Husky revamped this bike in 2018, remapped the ECU, made it even better in 2019 and now it is a dialed beast right out of the box. Keep in mind it is still a bike made for faster open trails and will need mods to use it as a dedicated tech woods weapon. In my opinion you may still need a 13 tooth front sprocket, a flywheel weight, gummy tires, and of course all the assorted guards. You also need to learn to ride the bike a bit different in this type of terrain. You need learn to ride with the clutch "in" and only feed it out for forward momentum, you will never learn to pull the clutch in in time to keep this light weight / fast revving motor alive in the tough stuff.

    Any flame out problems? Some people say it flames out easy. I have good throttle control, I learned on 4 strokes. People say 4 strokes flame out easier but I find the opposite but I think that's just because I feel more comfortable on a 4 stroke. Also, you have balls of steel on some of that stuff. There were a few times I was like holy crap that is some gnarly stuff.

    • @6at32off
      @6at32off  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the comments. I did have a few flame out issues when I 1st got the bike but I did a lot of modifications to this bike purely for fun and to see what would happen. Along the way I pretty much cured the bike of its low speed single track gnar issues and it now performs amazingly. These particular bikes were not really made for low speed technical riding but more for higher speed hair scramble riding. With a couple simple modifications and some learned riding techniques, they will perform better than a 2 stroke IMO.

    • @6at32off

      For me the FX350 was the only choice. I didn't want the motorcross gear box and didn't want to have to spend $1000's making a more road oriented bike into something more suited to the nasty terrain I like to ride. The FX350 was almost perfect out of the box. Biggest issue for me was coming from a TE300 2 smoker onto a bike more suited for high speed hair Scramble type racing and a 4 stroke to boot. Engine braking, completely different engine, different type of power and of course the flameouts associated with a motor that was not really designed to lug down low on technical terrain like a 2 stroke does. All that being said though, once I changed a few things and adjusted my riding to suit the bike it became the bike of my dreams. Just can't say enough about how I love to ride this thing and where it's capable of taking me. You will need to learn to properly manage the clutch though or break down and buy a Rekluse. Otherwise IMO there may not be a better bike on the planet. Good luck and happy trails...

    @billfulton2273 5 лет назад

    Hey Pitbull, great to see you back on the bike. Love your videos. I have the same bike as you, 2017 and love it. As I am old, very old, I treat it with great respect because as you say, it is a beast. I installed a Rekluse radius clutch and a fan, and am looking to install a light. I notice you have one and was wondering what it is and what mods you had to make. I was told the FX 350 stator is not strong enough to run a fan and a light. I am going to Moab in April and don't want to be caught out in the desert with no light.

    • @6at32off
      @6at32off  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the positive comments. The light bar I have mounted is a cheap one off Amazon, $40 for a pair. I simply wired it straight to the battery with a waterproof switch on the bars. If you do not use too powerful of a light system the stock stator can keep up ok. I'd suggest a much better battery though. The stock Lithium battery is very underpowered and I think it could power out on a longer night ride. My system has only been used for an hour in the dark at best and so far no issues. I had the same setup on my TE300 and did several night rides with it without issues. That bike has a kick start though so not as big a deal if it drains down.

    • @6at32off
      @6at32off  5 лет назад +2

      I wanted to try something different. The TE300 is an awesome bike for sure but these new 350 4 strokes are as light, just as flickable and have the added bonus of one extra power stroke per rev of the motor which makes the bike much more planted and able to find traction where the 2 strokes break loose. I'm one of many people who have discovered this. One of my friends is racing one of these in Expert and Pro Hard Enduro and has been for a couple years now with outrageous results. I doubt he'd ever switch back and neither will I.
