    "Norman's on sabbatical, Hunnie" has to be one of the most chilling, exciting and darkest, funniest deliveries of any line in all the Spiderman movies.
    Immediately the audience goes from "isn't this nice" to "Oh fuck..." Of all the villains to get inside the comfort bubble and suddenly turn out to be in control, the scariest of them would of been the Raimi Goblin.

    What makes this Goblin work is how even Norman’s scared of him. He’s hardly a good guy, but Norman’s ruthlessness pales in comparison to the Goblin, yet he can’t do anything once his darker half comes out. And because Goblin is downright Nietzschean, he sees Spider-Man’s altruism as the ultimate offense to his lifestyle.

    • @KevinJohnson-cv2no
      @KevinJohnson-cv2no Год назад +72

      I think that's the one part where this Goblin fails tbh. In the comics it's the exact opposite, Norman is a force to be reckoned with & his schemes are regularly thrown off by the chaotic goofiness of the Goblin. Goblin is dangerous, but Norman's ambitions of world dominance by any means are far more-so; the worst situation for Spider-Man is a Norman free of the Goblin persona, able to focus all of his power & resources towards a singular goal with unflinching ruthlessness. When this happens, we get what happened in Dark Reign.

    1. He is to Spiderman just as Joker is to Batman. He is constantly trying to push Spiderman over the edge. He is that little voice in everyone's telling them to do the bad, feel good things

    I'd say the only small detail you missed was Norman Osbourne's love/fascination with Japanese Warriors and Japanese Masks in general. Which may also lean into his Green Goblin persona's philosophy, strong warriors taking what they want? That and the Green Goblin Mask was seemingly inspired/based on these same masks, potentially the entire battlesuit was? It's a subtle detail that's easy to overlook, but it's also more obvious when watching scenes like Norman and the Goblin's first conversation with the mirror. And the second scene with Norman by the fire and the Goblin Mask on the chair, you can see a bunch of the masks in both of those scenes. Goblin also specifically starts talking about how a cunning warrior would strike neither mind or body first, but the heart!

    As soon as I saw this notification, I instantly clicked on it. I’m glad that the Raimiverse/MCU Green Goblin is finally being covered, as he’s one of the most iconic comic book villains in both film and comics. Willem Dafoe was perfect in the role as well, as he striddled the line between a terrifying, insane, creepy, sadistic and maniacal monster with a human side that’s compassionate, ambitious, flawed yet remorseful and genuinely cares about others. His quotes are just as iconic, from “back to formula?”, “you’re struggling to have everything you want while the world tries to make you choose.“, to “you know how much I sacrificed?!”.

To be forgiven we must forgive. It’s only once you do the things you need God to do for you that everything clicks. Please look inside and work though your inner drama. We all have issues with our parents. Start there. Forgive them genuinely from within. Then breaking down before Jesus Christ and asking for forgiveness makes more sense. As you do what he taught, truth reveals itself. Please, at least read three books of the Bible in your lifetime. Genesis Mathew and one book you chose yourself. Please trust me. That is an interesting take. I bet Norman was always prone to violence and evil desires - he just hid it under a façade of professionalism, very much like Patrick Bateman in "American Psycho" (which, ironically, also stars Willem Dafoe). Now that you mention it, the Raimiverse serum was just another universe's version of Dr. Erskine's serum from the MCU. The Green Goblin and Red Skull are extremely similar in that regard - hell, even Abomination, for that matter. Erskine even says that the serum takes an already-established personality and moral code and amplifies it.

      The Bible is truth. The key to understanding that is in the inner work Jesus Christ taught. Forgiveness heals a part of your soul that keeps you blind to the spiritual realm. I like how Green Goblin is essentially an allegory for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Norman taking a formula that opens up the gateway for his darker half and unfilled ambitions to be brought to the surface with no one suspecting that a "good" man like Norman would be capable of such atrocities upon society. Plus, the fact that he's schizophrenic in the films just makes that tie together so well. You know you're evil when you literally have to *cured* of it for life to return to normal.

    LOVED Dafoe as Osborn and the Green Goblin. That cackle, that hammy evil that is a staple of the Goblin, and those expressions he makes, it was the role he was meant for and he is clearly having so much fun with it. If there is any other Green Goblin I think compares at all, it's his portrayal in the animated show Spectacular Spider-Man.
    The one I'd still love to see you do a video of is Judge Doom from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". He terrified me(and probably many others) as a young child when I first saw the movie in theaters back in the 80s, and it was definitely an iconic performance from Christopher Lloyd.

    Couple of ideas:
    Boardwalk Empire - hard to pick a specific character, perhaps Nucky Thompson himself, or a villain like Rosetti or Narcisse. Or even Boardwalk Empire as a whole, as just about every character can be considered evil in some way.
    Sons of Anarchy - although it can be a bit clunky with its characterisation at times, either Clay Morrow or Agent Stahl would be interesting.
    Finally, change of direction entirely, but Bojack Horseman would be a fascinating study.

    I'm a DC guy most of the time but damn, the Raimi Spider-man films I grew up on loving, Willems Goblin is as iconic as Heath Leadgers Joker, there, I said it! I love his costume and just the story in general. And seeing him again being the big bad in Spider-man NWH just makes it better. Fabulous!

    0:46 Green Goblin's variation in Spectacular Spider-Man would make a great video! He's different enough from the movie versions, but still so utterly ruthless.
