What a great daily bag carrier. These pd’s are so good. Had a 54 plate pd130 Passat estate work car back in the day which got taken away from me at 140,000 miles and was still tight as a drum. I absolutely flogged that thing and it loved it. I’d swap the seats for some a4 or a6 ones these days though as the stock ones weren’t great in a crash. And the headlights were truly awful. Great gearbox and loads of grunt around town. Brilliant.
Just bought one of these with a tiptronic box and only 97000 kms (around 61k miles). Really looking forward to cleaning it all up, maybe changing the seats (post dogs) and sorting out the odd knocks on the body. I had a 4-Motion when they were new and it was a really nice car.
Cracking and fair review of the thinking man's daily driver. You used to see these everywhere but hardly see them anymore. I had the same engine in an A4 B6 and it shifted when you needed it to with the torque really punching you at 1500rpm. Now have the 2.0 TDi BKD in an Octavia and it's similar to the 1.9 in it's characteristics so they definitely didn't mess with the formula too much!
I have the b5.5 with the 2.0 TDI. I rarely have to leave the low end torque @1500rpm when cruising, it is like a small locomotive just pulling me along the coastal and Rockie Mountains in Canada.
They're cracking cars but good ones are getting increasingly hard to find. If you don't mind a bit of DIY they're hard to beat and easy to work at. 8 years ago I bought a TDi 130 Estate with a head gasket fault for £160. Tatty as hell but it's just a pure workhorse for me. Now theres almost 500k miles on it. Then 2 years ago I bought a 2005 TDi 130 Highline in black for £250. The very definition of a car that wasn't looked after. But it only had 130k miles and very straight bodywork. Overhauled the suspension, brakes and things like engine mounts, heater matrix, diesel cooler. Spent a week detailing it and now it's pretty much like a new car. And it came with a very good set of B6 16" wheels. Overall cost was £800 including buying it My dad also has one. A 100bhp model which he bought it in 2006 with 50k miles on it. The only fault it ever had was a bit of excessive rot on one of the rear axle trailing arms. Still on the original clutch and flywheel and turbo and now has 225k miles. Super reliable if they're serviced properly
It's more like comfortline interior and highline exterior The console is for 2din radio and the gearbox knob is changed The 4motion is the same like a real quattro (torsen) like in Audi A4 B6 The gearbox in 130pd is FRK code it's not long but good for heavy work if you want to have longer gears change gearbox for DQS code from 2.5 tdi engine 180hp it's like plug and play gearbox, very good, strong and long
The interior trim is called net optic and it’s very sort after. The wheels are off a b6 Passat set. Judging by the seats it’s a sport model. The climate control does have aircon that’s on all the time unless you press the econ button that’s turns the aircon off.
I have a gold 4 motion, its my keeper. Can't beat what you're getting for the money. Munches miles, good mpg, can use it like a van or chuck people in it. The only thing that would make it perfect is adjustable height suspension, im tempted to do it, the ground clearance is the only issue with them for some mild offroading. I was Passat PD Parts but have stopped buying new stock now. Still plenty of parts if anyone needs any bits😊
@@huugo8278sorry only just saw this, I don't do many miles in it now so not great MPG, low 30's. When I originally commuted with it I did 20k miles in 6months and averaged 38mpg.
I have one in my Passat. Looks like an OEM unit but I wouldn't buy another. Thing keeps freezing when it's on DAB and has to be reset by pulling the fuse out
bit of a steed, strongest engine for it and love the 4 motion version, great van/dog car for the money, looks clean enough too! and yes the red on the tdi is indicator of power! 110s had one red, 130s had 2 and i think the gttdi 150 version (golf mk4) had 3 reds but not positive!
@@carsandcustarddon't quote me on it 😂 absofeckinlutely on the power tho, great torque machines these, make good power just from a remap too, just be sure to pad that back out for the dogs 🤣
I had a 2008 Passat TDi wagon. Absolute bucket of shit! Screwed injectors, cheap buttons, cheap chrome finish, shitty DSG Gearbox, shitty interior fit out, the only thing that was good was the handling until around 80-90k when I had to replace the shocks. Then made another massive mistake in buying Bilstein Shocks which shit themselves after about 50k. Will NEVER buy German shit again. Ended up selling the car for $200 to a scrap yard after getting an $8000 repair bill due to the shitty Mechatronics in that shitty DSG crapped out along with the flywheel and the entire headlining 90% completely falling off. VW BUCKETS OF SHIT!

Think I bought some phoenix wheels off you and you helped me out with parts when I broke down on holiday in cornwall. 👍
I'd get a Blaupunkt Madrid Bluetooth stereo for that. Understated but will do the job nicely

I got the life of me cannot find a 1.9tdi 4motion Passat! Been looking for the last year
Can you turn off or disconnect 4motion?
I’m not sure unfortunately 👍
NO!
it's permanent awd
buy fwd, that turns it off permanently
@@neohimself thank you, i have Quatro system in my audi, i was just curious
Fair review, the 1.9 TDI is apparently ultra reliable with regular oiled changes. That combination of 1.9, estate, diesel and 4x4 must be super rare?
From what I can tell, there are around 200 left on UK roads. So not super rare, but definitely uncommon!
Mine has the six speed manual too. My 18yr old will take it on one day and no doubt map, turbo+ & intercooler it 😬
They are quite common in Switzerland, and so. Mine came from there as well. B5 115hp 4 motion, black variant.
I got a blue one, half leather cruise control heated seats just been treating it to some new brakes. Great in the snow!
So ,is it for sale ?
