Hi, thanks for sharing this Video, I actually got an offer as an auditor with Big 4 Australia starting this December, this video really help me with some ideas about busy season. Just wondering at busy season how many hours a day do you need to work? 12 hours everyday? Do you need to work during weekend?
Congratulations on your offer! Its extremely competitive so you should be so proud of yourself! It really depends on your team, your clients, what kind of engagement you’re on i.e. is it a financial year end, a quarter review or half review etc. I’ve had some friends in my cohort that haven’t worked late at all in their industry, so it’s really hard to say. I can say for certain however that I only worked late in my second year at the company. I started my full time graduate role in 2020 but I did an internship in 2018-19 and then worked as a casual while finishing uni. Financial services, property or ASX listed companies have a bit more of a reputation for longer hours (I work in FS, insurance with listed companies) so the deadlines are quite tight. I’ve also never worked a weekend :) and despite this, every Friday everyone is encouraged to finish on time or even earlier at 4pm. Hope that helps! Feel free to reach me via Instagram if you have any more questions x

Heyyy looking to study accounting here!! Few questions if you have time to answer :) 1. How many hours do you work in busy season? 2. Is it normal relaxed 8hrs work during non busy season? 3. Accounting is going to be my second degree as I have studied and worked in health sector. Have you seen or heard any graduate employee that got a job in big4 in their late 20/early 30?? 4. Lastly and Importantly, would you recommend accounting/finance??? Thank you!!! Nice vid :)
Hello!! Thanks for watching my video and best of luck with your studies. 1. It depends on your busy season client, and line of business you are in. I've worked on Australian, US & Japanese listed clients and by far the worst was the US listed client (Dec year end) and I worked an average of 12 hours a day, in peak reporting period I worked 60 hours during the week including weekends 2. Yes definitely! 8 hours during the interim (non year end) period. Especially after doing a busy season you are encouraged to head off at 5-5:30pm. 3. Yep! I have several colleagues that did completely different degrees (history, science etc), and then come to audit in their later 20s-30s. 4. I did accounting & tax at uni so I can't speak on finance however at the university I went to, 80% of people studying accounting also did finance! It was the most popular combination of majors :)

I just have one genuine question is the pay good cuz im doing acca right now and i was thinking of pursuing more of audit so..plz let me know i dont know at the end of the day its the dough for me 😅🤦♂️.
wth it hits 16C in Syndney? Wow, that's actually kinda cold. I'm in consulting at big4....I have no idea how you can do your day with 5 hours of sleep. Respect though. My typical day is about 10-11 hours and I'm WFH. Unfortunately due to North American time zones, from Pacific to Eastern....there's code I have to write, or client calls, or stand ups...we don't really get any official breaks.
Yess I filmed this during our winter! And oh no, that sucks so much!! Wfh has definitely made the hours longer and even more difficult. I’ve been lucky here in Sydney our covid cases are under control so I’ve been in the office almost everyday since end of October last year! What kind of consulting do you do? I always thought consultants had better hours than audit but it sounds pretty much the same!
Hello I am a student from PH and I am on the process of crafting my career path. I'm considering audit as my future career but I'm quite worried about certain blogs saying that eventually, auditors will not be needed in the workplace as we progress with regards to technologies. What's your opinion about this? I hope you find this question a good content for your videos, many of us needs to be enlightened on this matter before making a decision. Thank you.
Sorry for the very late reply! When I was a first year university student in 2016 we always heard that same comment, that auditors would be made redundant eventually due to technologies. The same answer I got from Partners, Senior Managers etc and from what I've learned about the firm is that the innovation within technologies will surely remove the mundane and repetitive aspects of auditing, however no technology will ever replace us. Auditing is very much a client facing role, is more than just about the actual review of accounts itself, but rather it's how you manage your clients, differing issues that constantly come up whether it be due to new standards, laws, regulations, so on and so forth. You also need a human to monitor and manage the technology, and clients appreciate our services - I'd find it extremely difficult to conduct audits without any humans or auditors ever being involved. Hope that helps! x
Yes actually they do! from juniors, to managers and partners. There’s a lot of flexibility, some can choose their hours or work part time, or with working from home sometimes they work more in the evenings after their kids are asleep as opposed to during the day. Tough during busy season for sure though! I don’t know how I’d do it if I had kids
depends on the client, if they are listed or not and if so, which country.. usually its 9am-10pm, some days you'll stay back later til like midnight, sometimes work weekends. generally around 60 hours a week at the maximum
In Australia the starting graduate salary is $55k aud including super which is approx $42k USD including your 401k. You don't need any experience as a Big 4 graduate, only need a Bachelor's degree and to be a penultimate student if you want to apply for the internship and then get your grad role from there like I did :) I don't have any accounting books I recommend lol!! I also haven't read Harry Potter, I liked The Series of Unfortunate Events though :D
actually during this busy season I didn’t wake up at 5:30 everyday, it was only when I wanted to leave work early (around 7:30pm or so) to go to my dance classes at night! For the past few months I’ve been waking up at 5am and going to CrossFit now before I start work so I’m just used to it :) I feel lazier nowadays if I don’t wake up early!
@@xosharonnoelle7 i dunno why but the fact that I have to wake up at 5:45 makes me depressed and anxious. I might have some mentam health issues or its normal?
@@ExistentialSadness Are you getting enough sleep? It's hard to adjust to waking up early but after you do it for a while it becomes ingrained as a routine your body gets used to it and you won't have to think about it.
Hi there, I’m not sure about the USA since I’m in Australia. From my experience here (I think it’s similar) you’d need an undergraduate degree if you’re applying through an internship or as a graduate. Once you start working you then need to work and study your CPA/CA.
It is so hard and so competitive. When I was a first year uni student I applied to be a trainee at the Big 4, as well some other workshops and I got rejected. I couldn’t even get past the aptitude tests. I then began to volunteer as much as I could during uni, join and be active in clubs/societies and also found myself an accounting that I worked at 4 days a week while finishing uni to help my resume stand out for when I’d later apply in my second last year of uni for the internship. It is possible! Just do your best to be a well rounded candidate, you can even practice the aptitude tests online and there are so many RUclips videos that give tips on how to secure that first interview. Best of luck! x
😭😭😭 I feel you hard. That was my Jan - Feb earlier this year too. Good luck!! Make sure you still make time for something that’s important to you to help you get through it 💪
hello! I'm from Australia so I'm not 100% sure what you mean by enrolled agent certificate. Do you mean your CA or CPA? For reference, i got this job from an internship in my penultimate year of university when i was studying my Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Tax).
Yes it is compulsory for auditors. In Australia our equivalent of CPA (CA) is compulsory however you don’t have to start straight away and have you to several years to finish it, i.e you can take a break between subjects if you wish :)
Hello I don't mind answering at all! It's very easy to find Big 4 salaries online anyhow. When I started as a graduate accountant (in this video) I was on 55k AUD including superannuation, plus the company pays for you to complete your CA studies (approx 3-5k for each subject). I'm a senior accountant now and I'm on 60k including super :)
It's called a day in the life video and my entire channel is makeup/beauty related. This just happens to be my full time job and makeup is apart of my daily routine lol
yeah well accounting isn't the most exciting profession, we tend to be conservative and it's apart of looking professional i suppose... tbh the day i filmed this i chose the most boring outfit, I gained some lockdown weight around this time and couldn't fit into my older more colorful outfits (yellow, pink, red green etc).

Love your videos. Really appreciate if you post another video about your recent daily activities. 🔥
Thank you so much!! I'm currently entering another busy season this year as a senior accountant now so if I get time I will try and make a video - thank you for watching xx
@@xosharonnoelle7 second this idea, loved this video! btw, do people actually take 1 hour off for lunch during busy season?
@@JaneParkerBowls sorry for the late reply friends!! And yes 100%, in Australia at my firm we do. If you’re going to work a 10+ hour day you’ll definitely take an hour lunch break or at least several breaks during the day. You also have another break as you have dinner, for me in my experience it’s an hour lunch break and 30 min dinner break :)
Hi lovely! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve got another video coming up, scheduled and ready to be published later today of another day in the life - work from home lockdown edition! ❤️
The band big 4?
You're such a pretty woman. You looking so beautiful and pretty
I can definitely relate to this, currently going through busy season as well. . . cheers! 🥂
Keep pushing through, we got this! 💪
you are beautiful lol not one ugly moment sis! can you upload more videos about what your job im a accounting student and just want to know what its like to have task to work on and what the tasks are like... if that makes sense lol
You are so sweet!!! I want to film but I’ve been so busy with work (just had an even more brutal busy season), studying CA and also dancing that I just don’t have time to edit and film 😥 when I get a break next I’ll try to. In the meantime feel free to ask me any questions here! I’ll do my best to respond xx
@@xosharonnoelle7 thanks for the reply, lol my comment made absolutely zero sense (it was pretty late, i was tired 😩) forgive me lol. What i was trying to say was that i would like to know what task you have to complete in detail but i guess you cant really film that kinda stuff due to confidentially? if you have an ig i could follow you on there and maybe if i have any other questions i could dm you?
I just have one genuine question is the pay good cuz im doing acca right now and i was thinking of pursuing more of audit so..plz let me know i dont know at the end of the day its the dough for me 😅🤦♂️.
When you start off as a grad at big 4? No it’s not competitive
wth it hits 16C in Syndney?
Hello
I am a student from PH and I am on the process of crafting my career path.
Hope that helps! x
Do any of ur audit colleagues have kids? I'd imagine that would be difficult... Cool video also!
Omg ! I just found your chanel and you are amaziiiing, you deserve way more suscribers! Greetings from Colombia!
You are so sweet thank you so much 🥰
What’s your hours like during busy season?
depends on the client, if they are listed or not and if so, which country.. usually its 9am-10pm, some days you'll stay back later til like midnight, sometimes work weekends. generally around 60 hours a week at the maximum
Where did you get your glasses from? :)
Oscar Wylee! ☺️
What’s the salary like? How many years of experience should I need? Any books do you recommend expect for Harry Potter
In Australia the starting graduate salary is $55k aud including super which is approx $42k USD including your 401k. You don't need any experience as a Big 4 graduate, only need a Bachelor's degree and to be a penultimate student if you want to apply for the internship and then get your grad role from there like I did :)
I don't have any accounting books I recommend lol!! I also haven't read Harry Potter, I liked The Series of Unfortunate Events though :D
Damn, waking up at 5:30, do you wake up at 5:30 everyday? How did you get used to it?
actually during this busy season I didn’t wake up at 5:30 everyday, it was only when I wanted to leave work early (around 7:30pm or so) to go to my dance classes at night!
Love this! I need more vlogs boo! ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you so much for watching boo!! Means so much ❤️❤️
I look like walking zombie during our tax busy season. 🤣
Honestly so do I!!
What qualifications I should need to get an accountant job in the USA?
Hi there, I’m not sure about the USA since I’m in Australia. From my experience here (I think it’s similar) you’d need an undergraduate degree if you’re applying through an internship or as a graduate. Once you start working you then need to work and study your CPA/CA.
Liked at "what the fu**"
😂😂 not my best look
I wish i could work for one of the top 4 but the assessments are hard to even secure an interview
Best of luck! x
I’m working my first busy season in January :’(!!! 60 hour weeks 😔
😭😭😭 I feel you hard. That was my Jan - Feb earlier this year too. Good luck!! Make sure you still make time for something that’s important to you to help you get through it 💪
Does having the enrolled agent certificate help in getting the job?
hello! I'm from Australia so I'm not 100% sure what you mean by enrolled agent certificate. Do you mean your CA or CPA? For reference, i got this job from an internship in my penultimate year of university when i was studying my Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Tax).
An Enrolled Agent Certification will definitely be an asset to getting a job in the tax sector!
Are you working as an Accountant or the CPA (Chartered public Accountant) ?Also for which company and in which City do you work at? Please reply sis 😚
I work as an Accountant, studying my Chartered Accountant (CA) and I work in Sydney for a big 4 firm.
What is the average salary of an accountant apart from big4 in Australia
Depends on the industry, qualification experience. You can search google and it gives you a wide range.
Is getting a CPA is a must for big4 auditor?
Yes it is compulsory for auditors. In Australia our equivalent of CPA (CA) is compulsory however you don’t have to start straight away and have you to several years to finish it, i.e you can take a break between subjects if you wish :)
Most of the video you mentioned personal things, not life as auditor
It's a day in the life vlog style video. If you are looking for more in depth auditing videos there are plenty on youtube.
kpmg?
Hello, how much is your salary? If you dont mind
@@xosharonnoelle7 is it normal to transition from graduate to senior in 1 year?
saw that sticker on yr laptop and instantly know that it's from kpmg. that colour scheme🤣
In which country are you working?
Australia :)
That's nice 👍
Wow. I can relate hahah. Made a similar day in the life video!
Thanks for the informative video! You're gorgeous btw
Thank you for watching!! :)
Hahaha I am beginner of CA n watching your videos. I really like it.
One day I will be in big 4 firm insha'Allah
Are you CA student?
Thank you for watching! Best of luck for you to get into the Big 4 :) yes I’m a CA student too!
Was that coffee for free?
Yeah! It was a machine at the office
I didn't know it was a video about makeup
It's called a day in the life video and my entire channel is makeup/beauty related. This just happens to be my full time job and makeup is apart of my daily routine lol
@@xosharonnoelle7 AH okay, that makes sense then :p
I started audit yesterday lol

Dress to impress
What city. Country are you in,?
Sydney, Australia :)
@@xosharonnoelle7 thanks just FYI I don't compliment often
Only if its earned
is it me or do all accountants on youtube really have boring outfits - navy black grey etc......
yeah well accounting isn't the most exciting profession, we tend to be conservative and it's apart of looking professional i suppose...
tbh the day i filmed this i chose the most boring outfit, I gained some lockdown weight around this time and couldn't fit into my older more colorful outfits (yellow, pink, red green etc).
Prison Michael
the worst thing about prison were the Dementors!!
Hahahaha exactly
Shag man
