Same dude. I really wanted the Miyoo Mini too but it's impossible to get. So I went ahead and ordered a RG35XX on the 21st of January. It just landed in the States today so I should be getting mine in a few days. Took nearly a month to get here.
Thanks for a great video bud. Just a couple of questions. 1. Is it possible to use 1 SD card and have all the roms on there as opposed to two separate cards? Also, is there any word on the PS emulator being able to use non-CHD roms?
Hey there. Yes you can use 1 SD card. At the point where I expand the partition on TF1, simply add your Roms and bios files there, and then you’re done. And leave out the TF2 part of the tutorial. Regarding chd Roms no word yet, but they are fairly easily obtainable.
@@adinwalls I upgraded to garlic OS and added CHD roms, but they are still not showing up and PlayStation is not showing up in the consoles section. I might have put them in the wrong folder? Any ideas?
@@adinwalls I figured out the issue. My PlayStation folder was called ‘PS1’ instead of ‘PS’. As soon as I changed the folder name to ‘PS’, it showed up. Thanks for the response though!
I recently got adventurous with my RG35xx and starting downloading cheats and.. but it's gone wrong! The games aren't loading and retroarch keeps crashing. I want to try and redownload GarlicOS but the link you're taking me to isn't downloading a 7-zip file, it's only downloading "001 File"/"002 File". Is there any other place to get the 7zip file of the "RG35XX-MicroSDCardImage.7z" or am I doing something wrong?
There’s a readme file in the download. You use the 001 file and it will automatically utilise the 002 file. I need to brush up on all this but the readme file will guide you.

Will a beginner with not much knowledge of computers be able to pick this up and play right away? I just want to power on pick a game and play can it do that? Because i dont know how to change operating systems and roms and transfering to different SD cards etc i just want to play right away

The one thing I am seeing retro enthusiests seem to say across the board is that the Miyoo Mini has some flimsy hardware issues while the RG35XX feels sturdy like a GameBoy Pocket or GameBoy Color. When I buy something, I expect it to last as long as I take care of it. Miyoo's company is great for repairing and replacing units but I don't want to have to deal with that. I just want to buy something and have it work when I use it. The RG35XX seems to be designed to last even if it isn't designed for your pocket.
This device makes me happy. I am enjoying games now. Not playing on PC anymore if you could believe me. Just picking this up on the bus and playing until arriving to work. Same when returning home and playing in bed until I fall asleep, lol.
First off great video, great detail and helpful installation! But my question is for PS1 games that have multiple disc how do you add them in and swap the disc went prompt. I'm having issues with this area 😅
In the miscellaneous folders for the sd card delete the largest file in there and then you can copy paste everything over without having to do things individually. One thing I'm going to try to do is increase that partition size by about three megabytes so that way you don't have to do that anymore.
at 14:33, the best thing you could have done to copy them all over at once was delete uImage then copy all over and replace, uImage is the biggest file and the partition is big enough specifically for the misc files mate. Good video!

You can't run the same firmware on the Plus. There is a 2.0 version that's compatible with the Plus, but it's in alpha and the general advice I've seen on Reddit is to not use it currently, unless you want to help with the development. There is another option for the Plus called Koriki, which looks very good. I just got my Plus today, so I'm going to give Koriki a go tomorrow.
@@curt6525 No, you can just use it as it comes with the stock OS. If you are using a single microSD card, just hook that up to your PC, then look in the ROMs folder; you will see a bunch of folders there for individual emulators, so just drag and drop your ROMs into the appropriate folder(s). If you get a second microSD card to use with it, make sure it's formatted to FAT32, then insert it into the second slot and turn the handheld on. When it boots up it will automatically make the required ROMs folders for you, so let it boot up, turn it off again, take the card out, hook it up to your PC, then copy over your ROMs. Hope that helps!
Can an updated Micro card be purchased with everything already done, the Garlic OS system? I’m not very computer inclined…I’d be sweet just to buy the card and throw it in the device
I just got mine this morning, i only have very few consoles i wish to emulate, and i immediately switched over to GarlicOS since i got a dual boot OS version! So far im absolutely IN LOVE with it!!

Got it 4 days ago, grinded Pokémon emerald and now the load file won’t load in. Just restarted the game every time I tried to load the save file. Like 20+ hours gone smh
I do think a search function is not something a lot of people ask for. With the recently played menu feature you really don’t miss a search feature much.

I got a question for anyone that can help me, my RG35XX came in today and garlicos was already installed, when I switched over the Factory is to garlicos my buttons don't work, I can't scroll through the menu or nothing, reset and power work but nothing else, if anyone knows how to help lmk
The thing is most of us RUclipsrs are making videos about things that would be useful and helpful to users. Adding ROMs to the SD card is something that’s explained in the manual and is fairly easy to do. Most users are interesting in improving their device. While the stock system is fine, GarlicOS is far better.
I wish someone sold the new SD cards already formatted. My laptop is too old and I won’t be able to do any of this. I’m a little nervous being the anbernic and have it mess up and no way for me to make the new cards.

I wouldn’t use the cards that come with it no. Yes you can copy the Roms from the sd card that came with the device to you computer, and then put it onto the new SD cards.
Hello. I have a double OS and the external controller does not work, I do not understand what is the matter. I created the file waitForUSB, and tried to save it in different directories, but the controller did not work. The OTG cable is working
Well, don’t use the stock SD card for GarlicOS. Rather buy a better card like SanDisk. You saves from the system that came with the device will not carry over to GarlicOS.
@@adinwalls I’m just gonna leave the handheld as it is. Since I’m just gonna play it casually and it’s no biggie. What I’m worry about is if I play the handheld like it came out the box will anything Happen to the sd card since the one given in the box isn’t the best sd card. Like will it crash, not work, etc in the future.
I got up to 8:58 in the video where you turned the anbernic on after putting garlic OS onto your micro SD, and the garlic OS screen shows up on my anbernic, but its stuck on that screen and when i try to shut it off, it turns back on again

i have a question when i go to the website where you download the garlic os and theres know 4 files. 2 being the update garlic os and the other two the image files. Do i download both is it the same process?
No matter what I try I can't run Pc Engine CD games. I don't know which system files I need and where to put them. Is there a tutorial on that by any chance?

I’m new to the emulator world. I got this handheld and changed to garlicos. Idk if I did something wrong but I don’t have a snes or nes folder. Also none of the ps1 games will work on it. Anyone have and idea on what I might have done wrong?
Can You put BIOS files on boot sd card (1st one with system), also can i put some roms on boot sd and others on 2nd SD (i want boot to have 8-16 bit systems and extra sd for ps1 roms)?
I don't own a computer and I want to get a handheld emulator that I can play Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country among other games, but those are the two main ones I am interested in. I would love to buy something that comes with those and I don't have to fool with the OS. I understand that the RG35XX doesn't come with any Mario games, but I'm not sure about DKC. Hi! Thanks for posting the tutorial. I get to the part about partitioning the SD card and get stuck. I cannot locate the section that shows Bios, Roms or CFW. I can't find it on the original SD or my replacement. What am I doing wrong?
If you have done everything correctly it should be there. Sometimes I find that it doesn’t give it a label, so you just need to go through all the drives in your file browser and find it that way.

hey so like, I been trying to get this to work for 2 hours, and whenever i try and start a rom on the system, the screen turns black for a second, and it goes back while the screen flickers. any ideas bc I'm completely stumpt rn ngl
That sounds like it is either your Roms (wrong format or in the wrong folder) or your RetroArch cores aren’t installed properly which shouldn’t be an issue with GarlicOS
When I flashed mine it got rid of all my games, HELP!! IT DIDN'T VALIDATE FOR SOME REASON AND GAVE ME AN ERROR. THEN I LOOKED AND ALL THE ROMS ARE GONE!
Hey there. Unfortunately that means they’re gone. But i had great fun building my own library slowly. Look up some games and get the roms for those, and slowly build up the library.
Has anyone else noticed that the Stock OS has way better saturation than GarlicOS? I’ve tested it on 3 different machines, not sure if I just got a bad download of Garlic or need to update it or what, but it’s distracting how bad the screen looks compared to stock.
@@adinwalls i ordered the stock version with 128gb worth of games. i was planning to buy a branded SD card like samsung or sandisk. i ordered 64 for my os and 128 for ym games since im planning to put mostly ps1 games.
LOL im really glad I heard the part about making sure I had the SD card first so I didnt flash my drive. Because I thought I would get ahead of the game and try to get everything ready on my laptop. Hi, i am missing the psp emulator, its there in retroarch and works but on the emuelec selection screen its not there. Ive checked the hide console setting and its also missing from there, any advice please?

Aber seit gestern startet der RG35XX immer mit chinesischer Sprache und gespeicherte Favoriten und Historie ist gelöscht. Habe auch schon Stock OS auf eine neue SD Karte geflasht aber das Problem bleibt bestehen. Kann mir jemand helfen? I've been using the RG35XX daily for about 3 weeks and am very satisfied with Stock OS, had tested Garlic OS and there are no psx ISO (bin/cue) there. But since yesterday the RG35XX always starts with Chinese language and saved favorites and history are deleted. I already flashed Stock OS to a new SD card but the problem persists. Can someone help me?
for instructions on updating the garlicOS. if you are dragging over the update ROMS files, aren't you replacing the roms you have on your device/SD card? what happens to your new ROMs that you downloaded and the save files? will those files remain untouched? does the replacing only happen for files that exist? also what if there are preloaded ROMs from anbernic that i don't want? do i always need to copy those onto my SD card? i guess i don't know whats in that Rom folder that you are copying over... does the folder contain actual Rom files or is it just the name of the folder?
Hey there this is a super detailed question and a bit tricky to understand. Make sure you backup your Roms. And you don’t have to keep Anbernic’s Roms but it’s a good idea to keep their bios files.
@@adinwalls I recently did this with the latest version as of last night. The newer builds have a version number on the top left of the main menu screen. The latest was 1.0.2. Maybe BS fixed some bugs. Try moving your pics to the corresponding game-system/Imgs directories to see if they work after you upgrade to 1.0.2.
Hey there are you UPDATING GarlicOS? Anyway, if you haven’t backed anything up, you’ll need to get new BIOS and Roms, download GarlicOS and do an update. If you don’t mind losing save states it might just be easier to do a fresh installation of GaricOS
Noobie question maybe, but my RG35XX won't turn on. This is since I've put the SD card in my Android smart phone (I wanted to save my Pokémon Emerauld save file and it was the only thing I had that could read a micro SD card.) When I try to turn it on, the GarlicOS logo appears, then it fades to black and that's it, nothing else. I can't turn it on at all when there's no SD card in. Did Android mess up the card? I since bought an USD adaptor to read micro SD on my computer and deleted the files that Android put in. (There were two drives that I couldn't read without formating them which of course I didn't do.) Alternatively, could it be the hardware that's defective? Should I reinstall GarlicOS? (Edit: I forgot to mention that I received my Anbernic as gift with GarlicOS already installed.)
Unfortunately the Android phone has most likely done something to affect the partition. I’m hoping somebody with more knowledge will help us here but as far as I know you will need to re flash GarlicOS
@@adinwalls Alright, so I was on my way to reinstall GarlicOS on my card, when I saw the "known issues" section on Black Seraph's page, I quote (or rather I copy-paste): "Some units get stuck on the GarlicOS boot logo, this seems to be a hardware issue of sorts that can be remedied by removing the back of the device and disconnecting the battery connector for 10 seconds to let the PCB fully discharge (just pressing the reset button doesn't seem to be enough)" Sounded like my exact issue, so then I had to get the appropriate tools to unscrew and remove the back of my Anbernic, tore the battery that was stuck with solid double tape off the inside of the device, wondered why I did that, removed and put back on the battery connector, then put everything back together. Anyway that didn't solve anything LOL. Today I formatted my SD card (after saving all my roms on another drive) and reinstalled GarlicOS and now my Anbernic is back in business and I am a very happy person. Thanks for taking the time to reply to me and everyone in general!

Hey that's a Windows issue: Disk Management > Right click on a drive and select "Change Drive Letter or Path" > Add > Assign The following letter > OK

Have you installed the bios files to the bios folder on the same TF card as the Roms?

Since its running retroarch it probably needs an M3U file with all the discs in order.
FYI, you can no longer expand partitions with the free version of MiniTool, so your guide is outdated.
Do you just do a reinstall of the new OS?

If that’s something you need then yes the stock OS could be better for you. Personally I have never used search on a handheld.

The old version was shipping with Garlic but they have released an updated version with their own firmware. It’s not as good but it’s okay

Hey there. It’s just a better OS with better gaming performance. BUT if you don’t want to you can get by with the stock OS.

When i start a SNES Rom, it doesn't start it with RetroArch. I don't get the RetroArch Menu with "Menu+x" either.
Are you sure you’ve got GarlicOS running?
@@adinwalls Na, i think i was wrong. RetroArch IS running. But when i press "Menu + x" too fast, it opens the GarlicOS menu, not the RetroArch menu.

Hey man this video is for the original rg35xx. But all you will need to do is get the latest firmware from Anbernic and flash it to the sd card.

Hey there. The Miyoo Mini Plus is an immediate comparison. The RG35XX with GarlicOS is pretty good. I also got the Better Buttons which are quite nice
can I use the same 2 sd cards that come included? can i still preserve the roms that come preloaded and use them on garlic or retroarch?
I wouldn’t use the cards that come with it no. Yes you can copy the Roms from the sd card that came with the device to you computer, and then put it onto the new SD cards.

Just be aware that garlic is now a two file setup.

Maybe re-download it and make sure you unzip the image before you write the image to you SD card.

Well Koriki has managed to squeeze performance for N64 but it's not really "meant" to play it.

Well, don’t use the stock SD card for GarlicOS. Rather buy a better card like SanDisk. You saves from the system that came with the device will not carry over to GarlicOS.
@@adinwalls I’m just gonna leave the handheld as it is. Since I’m just gonna play it casually and it’s no biggie. What I’m worry about is if I play the handheld like it came out the box will anything Happen to the sd card since the one given in the box isn’t the best sd card. Like will it crash, not work, etc in the future.
I got up to 8:58 in the video where you turned the anbernic on after putting garlic OS onto your micro SD, and the garlic OS screen shows up on my anbernic, but its stuck on that screen and when i try to shut it off, it turns back on again

i have a question when i go to the website where you download the garlic os and theres know 4 files. 2 being the update garlic os and the other two the image files. Do i download both is it the same process?

Hey there you should be able to expand the partition and add your Roms to the one sd card
Why you need to install garlic? Is the stock firmware not good enough
Garlic is more user friendly and RetroArch is optimised so you get better performance.

I’m new to the emulator world. I got this handheld and changed to garlicos. Idk if I did something wrong but I don’t have a snes or nes folder. Also none of the ps1 games will work on it. Anyone have and idea on what I might have done wrong?

I don't own a computer and I want to get a handheld emulator that I can play Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country among other games, but those are the two main ones I am interested in. I would love to buy something that comes with those and I don't have to fool with the OS. I understand that the RG35XX doesn't come with any Mario games, but I'm not sure about DKC. Can anyone give me any advice?
I might come with Donkey Kong Country, but hopefully someone in the comments here can confirm, I actually ordered mine without an SD card.
Hi! Thanks for posting the tutorial. I get to the part about partitioning the SD card and get stuck. I cannot locate the section that shows Bios, Roms or CFW. I can't find it on the original SD or my replacement. What am I doing wrong?
If you have done everything correctly it should be there. Sometimes I find that it doesn’t give it a label, so you just need to go through all the drives in your file browser and find it that way.
you might have to give that partition a drive letter in order for it to show up, i had the same situation and i did that and it started to show up

hey so like, I been trying to get this to work for 2 hours, and whenever i try and start a rom on the system, the screen turns black for a second, and it goes back while the screen flickers. any ideas bc I'm completely stumpt rn ngl
That sounds like it is either your Roms (wrong format or in the wrong folder) or your RetroArch cores aren’t installed properly which shouldn’t be an issue with GarlicOS
When I flashed mine it got rid of all my games, HELP!! IT DIDN'T VALIDATE FOR SOME REASON AND GAVE ME AN ERROR. THEN I LOOKED AND ALL THE ROMS ARE GONE!
Hey there. Unfortunately that means they’re gone. But i had great fun building my own library slowly. Look up some games and get the roms for those, and slowly build up the library.
To be honest, every device I buy I put the sd cards aside, buy new ones and use custom firmware and my own roms

I’ve tested it on 3 different machines, not sure if I just got a bad download of Garlic or need to update it or what, but it’s distracting how bad the screen looks compared to stock.

I’m not sure the limit of cards but 128gb is overkill for this device.

LOL im really glad I heard the part about making sure I had the SD card first so I didnt flash my drive. Because I thought I would get ahead of the game and try to get everything ready on my laptop. I stopped and Im waiting till I get the sd cards ready and take another crack at it. My wife loves the old mario and I heard they may not come the rg35xx I ordered for her.

Hey there, PSP doesn’t work on the RG35XX. If you are referring to PS1, your Roms need to be in .chd format
Ich nutze den RG35XX täglich seit ca 3 Wochen und bin mit Stock OS sehr zufrieden, hatte Garlic OS getestet und da liegen psx ISO (bin/cue) nicht.
Aber seit gestern startet der RG35XX immer mit chinesischer Sprache und gespeicherte Favoriten und Historie ist gelöscht.
Habe auch schon Stock OS auf eine neue SD Karte geflasht aber das Problem bleibt bestehen.
Kann mir jemand helfen?
I've been using the RG35XX daily for about 3 weeks and am very satisfied with Stock OS, had tested Garlic OS and there are no psx ISO (bin/cue) there.
But since yesterday the RG35XX always starts with Chinese language and saved favorites and history are deleted.
I already flashed Stock OS to a new SD card but the problem persists.
Can someone help me?

for instructions on updating the garlicOS. if you are dragging over the update ROMS files, aren't you replacing the roms you have on your device/SD card? what happens to your new ROMs that you downloaded and the save files? will those files remain untouched? does the replacing only happen for files that exist? also what if there are preloaded ROMs from anbernic that i don't want? do i always need to copy those onto my SD card? i guess i don't know whats in that Rom folder that you are copying over... does the folder contain actual Rom files or is it just the name of the folder?
Hey there this is a super detailed question and a bit tricky to understand. Make sure you backup your Roms. And you don’t have to keep Anbernic’s Roms but it’s a good idea to keep their bios files.

I didn’t understand about Bios Folder, Whats should I put in Bios Folder ?
In the written guide I explain what bios files you need. Just Google them and add them to the folder.

Okay thanks for the feedback. When did you do this? I filmed this on Monday and there were a few updates between now and then.
@@adinwalls I recently did this with the latest version as of last night. The newer builds have a version number on the top left of the main menu screen. The latest was 1.0.2. Maybe BS fixed some bugs. Try moving your pics to the corresponding game-system/Imgs directories to see if they work after you upgrade to 1.0.2.

Hey there are you UPDATING GarlicOS? Anyway, if you haven’t backed anything up, you’ll need to get new BIOS and Roms, download GarlicOS and do an update. If you don’t mind losing save states it might just be easier to do a fresh installation of GaricOS
how to add a ps2 emulator on it
This device won’t play PS2
Noobie question maybe, but my RG35XX won't turn on. This is since I've put the SD card in my Android smart phone (I wanted to save my Pokémon Emerauld save file and it was the only thing I had that could read a micro SD card.) When I try to turn it on, the GarlicOS logo appears, then it fades to black and that's it, nothing else. I can't turn it on at all when there's no SD card in.
Did Android mess up the card? I since bought an USD adaptor to read micro SD on my computer and deleted the files that Android put in. (There were two drives that I couldn't read without formating them which of course I didn't do.)
Alternatively, could it be the hardware that's defective?
Should I reinstall GarlicOS?
(Edit: I forgot to mention that I received my Anbernic as gift with GarlicOS already installed.)
Unfortunately the Android phone has most likely done something to affect the partition. I’m hoping somebody with more knowledge will help us here but as far as I know you will need to re flash GarlicOS
@@adinwalls Alright, so I was on my way to reinstall GarlicOS on my card, when I saw the "known issues" section on Black Seraph's page, I quote (or rather I copy-paste): "Some units get stuck on the GarlicOS boot logo, this seems to be a hardware issue of sorts that can be remedied by removing the back of the device and disconnecting the battery connector for 10 seconds to let the PCB fully discharge (just pressing the reset button doesn't seem to be enough)"
Sounded like my exact issue, so then I had to get the appropriate tools to unscrew and remove the back of my Anbernic, tore the battery that was stuck with solid double tape off the inside of the device, wondered why I did that, removed and put back on the battery connector, then put everything back together.
Anyway that didn't solve anything LOL.
Today I formatted my SD card (after saving all my roms on another drive) and reinstalled GarlicOS and now my Anbernic is back in business and I am a very happy person.
