it’s honestly so refreshing to finally see a reactor not shittalk tao for his behavior. so many ppl write him off as just an annoying character and don’t even try to understand him. so thank you for that lol
LITERALLY he’s just protective of his friend and doesn’t want to see him get bullied again he’s not a bad person by any means
@@zakikin6006 this and also he clearly has abandonment issues. imagine dealing with that and then your best friend starts hanging out with someone whose friend group literally used to bully them, and as a result hanging out less with you. also tao is LITERALLY 14 years old like of course he’s not gonna be all mature about it
I know, I do have good friend who’s been with me since elementary. I completely can relate Tao.
Exactly yes omg :)
@@zakikin6006 That said, he is rather overbearing and not allowing Charlie to be himself and at the end of the day, learn for himself. I like him, and get his motivations, but after a while, you have to calm down and recognise that the other person is another person with his own agency.
Around 20:15 you said something similar to what I've been feeling about the show: "Heartstopper is not realistic. It's believable." And that's the most important, that kids and teens who see this today know that it COULD happen to them. It doesn't gloss over the homophobia, the anxiety, the questioning. But it's a beacon of hope for so many. It's the "it gets better" slogan shown on screen. Find the people around you who make you feel safe, and things will be okay.
All of this. Honestly, the most wonderful part of Heartstopper isn't that it has no awfulness in it (it does). It's how aspirational it is in depicting people who freely love and care for one another. All of our main characters are SO brave in expressing how they feel, in a way that isn't entirely realistic, if only because lots of people let insecurities and fear of "sounding stupid" get in the way of saying the things they do here.
As a (much lol) older queer person, I used to be just happy to get queer characters in my media, even though a lot of them were tragic or awful characters. They existed, but there was rarely anything aspirational about them - these characters are the people that I want to be, that I would love to have been when I was their age. I love the thought of young queer people just...experiencing these stories and taking to heart the brave and loving ways they interact with and care for one another.
that has been the trend in the show and the books as well. Of course it is not realistic, but there are so many individual topics that actually happen to many, many kids which I think is amazing
Absolutely this, the show doesn't pretend homophobia doesn't exist, but it does do a good job of saying "things might not be as bad as you fear". And it does an incredible job of properly demonstrating good communication and friendship support in a healthy way.
Whenever a misunderstanding happens the show expresses so well how good communication can help solve issues.
It isn't how every relationship will be 100% of the time, but it realistically shows the potential for what can happen if we try hard and don't give up hope, and that's a really good message for LGBTQ+ teens to experience.
It’s even funnier knowing that joe (Charlie’s actor) was silently dying of laughter behind the door when Tao was dancing 😭😭 (joe filmed it and posted it) 🤣🤣
24:33 About this, if you remember in episode four I think when Elle and Tao were alone. Tao makes her promise to prioritize their friendship no matter what, so I think Elle’s sudden mood change was because she remembered what Tao said.
Yes, her faceeee🤧
Love ya Harry. Also, definitely agree that this show has the potential of being life saving for the younger generation and seeing themselves on screen and just knowing that what they’re feeling isn’t wrong and that they’re not alone and they can find love and they can find their group of people.
I thought you were talking about Harry Greene 😭😭
They actually mentioned that part of their prep was to really get to know their characters and that they did a 'hot chair' with them sitting in turns down and answering all kind of questions to their character, even non related to the script. Like what's their favorite music, movies, where are their parents from, when did they divorce and so on. So yes, they really did prepare them well and they are outstanding good. Kit Connor kills it though in my books, these little changes you can indeed see on his face. He can transfer emotions with a little change of facial expression or the way he pauses, breathes and so on better, than some with a whole monologue. Too many teen actors have so limited facial expressions. That scene on the bench with Imogen, its like Emmy nomination stuff to me.
I totally agree, his acting with Nick's explanation to Imogen is just so impressive.
Kit definitely shines the brightest in Hearstopper, but Joe is very close behind him. I was in shock when I learned that this is Joe's first proper acting role. He did such an amazing job too.
@@DeeFightingDreamer absolutely.
And now he got an emmy for this scene
All the questions are the "back story" that make the depths of the characters and the story stronger.
The line that Nick says about repressing his true personality, that is so relatable to me as a trans person.
If you watch closely when Nick tells Charlie about how he felt pressured to say yes to Imogen and felt bad because her dog died - Charlie actually smiles a little bit. I think it’s because he’s so proud of being with someone who cares about other people and he sees that Nick doesn’t wanna hurt imogens feelings. It makes Charlie so proud to see Nick not just care for Charlie but for others.
I really loved this reaction. I look forward to your reactions every week and really really enjoy hearing all of your thoughts.
Yeah, you can see Charlie thinking; "Yes, this is the dorky boy I love" when Nick mentions Imogen's dog dying. Because Nick is such a genuinely good person.
On what you said on how important the show is: The cast and crew were actually very aware of how important the show would be. Kit Connor especially has been very candid in interviews about how they all felt like they were making something important. He also said that someone told him on twitter that they used the show to come out to her parents, and I can't remember his exact words, but he basically said reading that was the most significant moment of his career.
Kit Connor is so good as Nick. Perfectly casted show. Joe Locke is awesome too. Nick didn’t just abandon Imogene, when Charlie and Tao were talking about going bowling they said they were meeting there around 4 o’clock, so that was too early for the date. But in the end Nick chose to stay with Charlie.
I'm really hoping for Imogen to be a key supporting character for Nick in season 2. She seems such a good person and understanding when Nick pretty much gave a soft coming out to her. Both her actress and the writers really struck a balance between keeping her as the potential relationship rival while keeping her a caring good person.
exactly, I didn't expect everyone to be like "he ditched her on the day of the date, that's so bad?!" because to me that is still better than him not showing up at all (for some reason I kept expecting things to go bad and see a shot of Imogen just waiting somewhere for him).
But I guess because I have been ditched just hours before a meeting and then DURING the meeting bcs the person had a date, I just see things differently and this doesn't seem so bad lol
@@DeeFightingDreamer Agreed, and he didn't just ghost her, but met her the day after to properly apologize and explain.
Kit Connor is only 18 years old, and yes he is following a script. However, his facial, tone, and body reactions are very on point. He must be highly emotionally intelligent. Well done.
I’m a 39 year old straight cis woman. I’m married with kids. I have nothing in common with the characters on the show and yet everything in common with the characters in this show. It’s absolutely lovely. I’ve watched it more times than I can count. And your reaction videos are so thoughtful and insightful. I have kids I plan to share this show with and I think whether they are gay, straight or something in between, this is an important show for them to see.
I totally relate with this! I am glad I am not alone 😂
Hey guys! Managed to actually get the camera footage for this episode back from my drive that failed (check the recent community post) however the mic audio was fully lost so i had to keep my shitty cameras mic. As a perfectionist this was painful to edit however at least with the camera footage I was able to do my usual editing and include a lot more footage than last time!
Next episode onwards are all good so there shouldn't be any more issues going forward! Expect to see episode 6 out Mon/tues!
We love this anyway. Awesome work recovering the footage! Definitely not an easy feat!
Another reactor pointed this out about the scene at 5.40, about perspective, Tao looks at Nick and sees Nick talking with Imogen, and then Charlie looks at Nick, and sees only Nick. Which was a clever way of showing what the both of them see. Tao sees a guy who is straight, who is playing with Charlie, who is friends with bullies, and Charlie sees his boyfriend. Or at least the guy he really likes, and who he is going out.
Also thank you for the understanding about Tao! I love Tao, and I see that he is also a bit selfish in telling Charlie about Nick, a large part is definitely love and care and worry for Charlie! So many people only see the selfish part and call Tao toxic even. A lot of reactors are really hating on Tao. Which seems really extreme to me. Tao clearly wants to protect Charlie, and while his motives are not completely selfless, he does want to help Charlie. :)
I think Imogen cottoned on to what Nick wasn't saying here. And then she shows (instead of just saying it) that she actually is an ally and protects Nick from Harry and nosiness.
"That's the cutest thing, ever!....STOP IT!" - totally me, as well
I love love love that Nick communicates so well! They don't draw out the drama! I hate when shows draw out the drama and this show focuses on communication and it's amazing!
Any other show would have Nick witness Charlie and Ben kiss or mistakenly think they're being romantic at Harry's birthday party, or draw out a miscommunication and conflict over 2 or 3 episodes, but this show demonstrates how Nick can't bear to leave Charlie in agony over doubt, and comes clean to him.
It's honestly so refreshing and Nick as a character is such a great role model for people who are coming to terms with their sexuality and feelings.
Really enjoying your reactions to all the episodes. I agree with you that the acting is amazing, especially because Kit Connor (Nick) and Sebastian Croft (Ben) are the only ones with previous acting experience. I love how they cast people close to the right ages too. This is my favorite show.
Speaking as a year 7 you are right this show has helped more than you could ever imagine. Going from not even knowing who I am to being comfortable coming out to a few of my closest friends this show has taught me that it’s normal and your friends can and will be supportive and that there’s always a chance to have that beautiful relationship and person that’s the same as you and cares about you . Nicks coming out scene to his mum helped me realise that and this show is so special to me for so many reasons especially as I’m still very
young it’s helped me come to sense of who I am a lot quicker than I would of without it xxx
Its the thing I love about this show (among other aspects), that when ever you feel like, okay, so usually in other drama shows, this would hit the fan now or there'll be this curveball or trap, and Heartstopper just goes the non drama but proper way. Communication, honesty, caring. Like the whole date thing and how Nick actually knows he screwed up and how he gives Charlie a hard time hiding in front of his friends and so really tries to assure Charlie he's sincere by hugging and telling him he likes him. He just cares and shows it. And I love it.
As someone who was totally a Tao in high school, I really appreciate the understanding! Also, Kit Connor is completely amazing. He just blows me away and I hope the pressure he’s under right now doesn’t get to him.
FUN FACT! Alice Oseman (the creator of heartstopper) made the actors read ALL of the heartstopper books so they can really understand how the scenes are gonna feel like and so on
That timing when both of you said "obviously" was perfect
As someone who is younger (year 8) that is bi, it is very nice to have this show :)
Edit: I’m thinking I’m lesbian now and I don’t think I could’ve been able to figure all this out without this show :)
I love how they don’t make Imogen a mean character who doesn’t get angry over nick. When she realises that she isn’t as worried about her crush and more about their friendship. She’s never really too spiteful and I like that
It turns out that she really is an ally!
I do think the people involved in the show are starting to realize its importance. It's not by chance that the show is so good. Literally most of them are lgbtq+, from Alice themselves to the director, crew, and cast. There's a recent interview where Euros Lyn says they couldn't legally ask people's sexuality, so they searched for either actors who were open about being queer or straights who were openly allies.
In episode 3, if I remember well, Tao and Elle made a vow to always prioritize their friendship. So I think that's why Elle don't want to mix it with a more serious relationship
Yep, good communications is this show’s best strength. So refreshing.
I swear everytime you shout "YOU TWAT!" at someone in this show (especially at Harry) it gives me life
In my mind, Nick planned on leaving the bowling party early and going on the date with Imogen, but then he realized he really wanted to be with Charlie more and the date with Imogen would be dishonest.
That’s what I thought as well!
Yes this is how I I imagined it as well!
That doesn’t make it any better lmao cancelling only a few hours before the plan is just simply rude, he literally could’ve done it earlier he even forgot about it even after he talked bout it with mom n got advice
My response was similar but slightly different. Nick is always trying to do the right thing, and the right thing is really muddy up until the birthday party. Purely speculation, but I imagine him planning to have the "I don't like you like that" talk sometime before the date but maybe he hadn't worked it out that far yet, in any case he was still feeling uncertain in his approach and trapped until he got some clarity. Then two things happened at the bowling alley. First he overheard Tao's and Charlie's conversation. Already feeling guilty about keeping their relationship secret in the abstract, he is confronted with concrete consequences to Charlie for the secret. Then Charlie says "what, you actually went on a date with her" and "its not like we're officially dating." My heart ached when he said those (bravo Joe Locke's acting), so Nick's must have broken. No matter what stumbling he's done up to that point (prioritizing Charlie's gift over dealing with Imogen, being frozen in his tracks and putting it off) after those two daggers to his heart and the further blossoming of his love for Charlie, his path forward became crystal clear and he knew he had to act decisively and immediately to make things right.
@@nekoneko5777he could have been so stressed over it that he pushed it to the side so he didn't have to deal with it. I've done that so much that it's definitely a problem.
I’ve heard it described as a second adolescence almost when queer people come out and are able to fully embrace themselves. That time when straight people are figuring themselves out and exploring/ discovering who they are, queer folks may be closeted which hinders that ability for them to the same degree. I think people can see it as queer people being extra or over the top but I see it more as they didn’t have the ability to be themselves fully and figure things out when people would have given them more grace as a young person. Now as an adult is seems weird but I get it.
Kit just absolutely kills it as Nick!! He is soo good, ji am so impressed every episode. He is definitely going places!!
low-key one of the most balanced reactions to characters I've seen so far, thank you!
I’m so glad you picked up on Olivia Coleman’s facial expression! 😂 I thought it was brilliant and every reaction I see completely miss it or skips it 🤦♀️ So silly, but feel like it needs to be enjoyed!! Haha, All the best!
Of all the Heartstopper reactions I have been watching (and I have been watching a lot of them . . . in between watching the show itself over and over), I find your to be easily the best! I love how you not only emotionally respond to the episodes, but also take time to think about what the show is doing and why it works so wonderfully without being preachy or dull. Looking forward to finishing out the season with you!!
Already said that, but I like the way you manage to take a step back to see the whole picture and not be angry at Tao, for example. Cause yeah, we the audience know, but he doesn't, and his reactions are genuine and realistic. Charlie saying "He's... my... friend" when he wanted to say "boyfriend" was really nice as well. Cause he respected Nick's need to take some time, even though it pained him a lot, and Nick saw that, and that's what, imo, made him so sad after that scene.
All in all, I agree as well that the drama is really well played in this show, cause nothing lasts too long when it can be sorted out quickly, and I'm here for it :D
Again, a great vid, it was really entertaining to see you do this.
Have a great day :D
Kit and his expressions are amazing. Honestly, they are all amazing and I want them to get all the awards!
With Elle and Tao, the issue is that she swore to Tao that their friendship would never change and they would always prioritize their friendship.
SOOOOO excited for 2 more seasons!!!!!
i love the empathy you show towards all the characters - it's how i watched it as well. being a teenager is rough! i made questionable decisions all the time back then..
I have seen so many reactions to heartstopper that I think I know every line by heart, but yours add a deeper layer to it and I appreciate it so much! I agree with everything you say everytime, you don't just watch the episodes for fun, but you express what you are feeling and what your thougths are! And you are right, this show is so fucking important, I can't even begin to say how much it means to me as a bisexual girl, even if I'm older than them and not from the uk!
I discovered you because of Heartstopper but I'm definetely watching all your videos from now on! Thank you for this!
I love the relationship between Nick and his mom and I think it’s a huge part of why he works so hard at communicating openly and honestly, especially with someone like Charlie who Nick knows understands him. The fact that Nick trusts his mothers opinion so much and can talk to her about the stuff with Imogen is so great, and it’s another way the show models healthy communication and relationships. I think it’s also so important for young people to see these kinds of parents relationships along with the friendships and romantic relationships. I assume seasons 2&3 will show more about Nick’s family life, which will illustrate why his relationship with his mother is so important to him and how much it impacts even his day to day life.
And I appreciate all your comments about Tao and imogen as well, as many other commenters have pointed out. All the characters are believable, especially for their ages, I think sometimes bc Nick works so hard to communicate honestly it makes other characters seem less mature but they’re all young teenagers. It’s okay for them to make mistakes and take time to fix them or self reflect. Tao and Elle have bigger roles in the show than in the comics, so I think they had to expand on his motivations. Im looking forward to seeing more of them in the next two seasons. I think you will really like episode 6, it’s also one of my favorite episodes of the season.
Late to the party but loving your reactions. A thought: When Nick arrives at Charlie's party, he's still got a date with Imogen later that night. He hasn't figured out how to withdraw and at 4 pm, it looks like he's planning to go through with it, whatever his internal feelings. The only reason Charlie knows about the date is that Tao told him. And the only reason Nick KNOWS that Charlie knows is that Nick overheard Tao and Charlie in the bathroom. We'll never know what Nick would have done if Tao's actions hadn't pushed Nick's feelings so hard. He might have gone on the date, as a nice guy, and I have no idea what Nick thought would happen on Monday...there's no way Charlie wouldn't hear about it from someone else.
So I fully support Tao in this one, no matter how heavy handed his sincere, loyal 15 year old self was. Tao KNOWS that Nick is there at Charlie's party, flirting, and he knows that Nick is going on a date and probably knows it's that night - Harry said Imogen was telling everyone. When Tao tells Nick "You're messing with him" and Nick replies "You're right," it's because Tao is pointing out what looks like Nick two-timing. Tao stepping up and telling Charlie AND confronting Nick helps Nick realize he's so fully committed to Charlie, he's about to make a really dick move.
I also think that Nick overhearing the bathroom conversation is what pushed Nick into some kind of clarity. When Charlie says "But....but he's....," you can see the alarm in Nick's eyes as he listens at the door. It's a huge test of everything and Nick is frozen, waiting to see if Charlie will go ahead and tell Tao the truth about Nick and himself, even secretly, to make it all make sense. And when Charlie doesn't, Nick's eyes close briefly in relief and simultaneously in regret and guilt as the burden Nick has placed on Charlie comes into full focus. Charlie passes the test at serious cost to himself and his friendship with Tao. He chooses Nick when he could have outed Nick, assuming Nick would never know. Nick could have lost Charlie in a moment of broken trust still in its infancy. And Charlie emerges from the bathroom to a frantically processing Nick who instinctively goes for the hug in the only safe place he knows in all of this...Charlie's arms.
I don't think poor Nick had had time to really process the road he was on when he walked into the bowling alley. It's kind of weird to watch him walk into the party and greet Charlie with such open affection when we know he's got other plans later with a girl. But that hug outside the bathroom was the moment when Nick fully chose Charlie in a moment of silently explosive relationship and trust growth. He now has clarity and knowledge he didn't have when he walked into the place. It lets him answer Tao honestly, it lets him speak aloud "I really like you" with all the implications that has for a teenager, and it gives extra poignancy to his statement "I wish I knew then what I know now."
So don't knock Tao too hard. His actions are what move Nick and Charlie's relationship forward. Without him, there might have been a serious blot on Nick and Charlie's fledgling relationship, and Charlie might have held a small part of his heart back going forward, even if they survived it.
This is way too long and I’m not reading it but good for you.
17:40 I love what you said about queer people suppressing things about themselves and then being free and expressing themselves so much more. I just talked about that today and tried to explain it to someone.
I love seeing you go through all the same emotions I did. The ecstatic joy you can't contain. The desire for what they have. The pain that this didn't exist for us. The relief that this exists for the newer generation.
I think the Tao's arc on "not liking Nick" wasn't explained as well compared to the graphic novel. In the original, his motives were more solid and less "superficial" per se. Kit and Joe are very good actors indeed. In different ways, Kit has agency/control over his facial expressions, tell so much without a word. And Joe created the "Charlie's voice", has a softness and sweetness (and sadness when needed) which is the character. :)
Been single for almost 6 years and never been happier. Then Heartstopper comes into my life and ruins the fun by wanting to be loved again lmao. I WAS SO HAPPY BEFORE THIS SHOW NOW I FEEL ALL LONELY.
fun fact: in one interview, rhea norwood (imogen's actor) mentioned that nellies actor, echo, would not want to come up to her so they had to make her hold a sausage in her hand just so that echo would come, and she was saying that it was hard for her cause shes vegan and that she doesnt like touching meat 💀💀💀
edit: charlie's bday party was at 4 and i'm assuming that his 'date' with imogen was way later (maybe 7ish?) so they don't really clash like what so many other people think
So? Still super rude to cancel a few hours before the plan even with friends like he literally could’ve told earlier, she must’ve been excited n already started changing or smth😢
Gotta say, I've been on a Hearstopper reaction videos binge, and your videos are my favourite. Others were funny and nice, but you just understand the show on a completely another level. Doesn't hurt that you're funny too, and I like how you talk about every situation in such a great way.
It also might be because so far you're the first person to constantly call out what an absolute sweetheart Nick is, and you see how he's put into difficult situations. After a while, people get used to him being so nice that they don't even notice it, but we should talk more about how Nick has always done the right thing (at least to his abilities), considerated other people's feelings and how he's literally a walking textbook example of what to do in all the situations he found himself in.
Anyways, definitely subscribing and desperatedly waiting for more reactions! :)
I truly appreciate you so much! Your opinions are always so nuanced and well-thought-out, more than a lot of other people, especially for the Tao discourse, so THANK YOU for that!
I absolutely love your reactions to Heartstopper. This show is my favorite
I like your reactions. Some good news, Netflix has renewed Heartstopper for two more seasons. I too think this series has the potential to change lives for the better. And for those of us who are older, it provides an opportunity to live through the characters and share an experience we were deprived of. Heartstopper is enjoyable for all ages.
I absolutely love how well you can articulate your own thoughts and takes, but also how Tao feels. It makes your videos so much more interesting than others. I’m so glad I found your channel through the Heartstopper videos!
Love how understanding you are about Tao's perspective on things - a lot of reactors get quite frustrated with him in this episode, but it's definitely more complicated than just jealousy.
If you read the comics, you also know that Tao was the one who outed Charlie (by accident), so he's protective and still a bit guilt ridden about it; the problem is, his insecurity and his own biases are interfering with his mindset. It's not that he's wrong it's that he's, more often than not, got shit timing. That said, his retorts to Harry are epic.
@@JonInCanada1 shit timing or not he’s literally the person who protects Charlie the most out of everyone and it’s actually really sad that Charlie didn’t even tell him and he was the last in the group to know about nick and Charlie through finding out by someone else, just because he tries so hard to protect Charlie to prevent him being bullied comes across as him being jealous and unacceptable of Charlie and nick doesn’t mean he’s a bad character at all
@@zakikin6006 Ok, now I'm not sure if you have a reading comprehension problem or you're just being obtuse, but nowhere in my comment did I say or imply that Tao was a bad character, I even make the point he's not wrong; you just chose to infer that I said something I didn't and took offence. That's on you, not me.
As for Charlie not telling Tao about him and Nick straight away, gee, can't imagine why he would be hesitant...oh wait yes I can. Tao was hostile to Nick from the get go so of course Charlie would be somewhat reticent to tell Tao immediately. Have you no understanding how Tao riding Nick down at every turn would make Charlie nervous about telling him? Also, Charlie made it clear to everyone, including Elle, that he was going to tell Tao, but Elle let it slip first which took away Charlie's chance to say something.
Now, I trust that clears things up for you.
Just from watching your reactions to Heartstopper and WandaVision, it’s quite evident that you have a super-awareness of social cues and social situations. It’s actually really fun commentary too! Love the videos!
You can see every emotion on kit conners face as soon as the words come out of Charlie's mouth this series just makes my heart explode
In the book, Tao had accidentally outed Charlie by saying something a little too loudly after Charlie had told his friends, so he is overprotective of Charlie due to the guilt he has and he really doesn’t want Charlie to get hurt again. We don’t find out about this until the third book, but there are a few other things in the show that they move to season 1 that aren’t until the third book either, so I’m not sure why they chose not to include that element.
Tao and Elle’s crushs on each other and obliviousness about the others crush is exactly like this in the book though. They both just like each other and value their friendship too much to risk anything unless they’re 100% certain it could work out.
Loved and agreed with so many of your takes on various aspects of this episode and the broader conversations. I think sometimes reactors forget that not every character is privy to the all of the information we are as the audience. So that was very refreshing to see ☺️
Also along with the hopeful yet grounded take on young queer life/romance this show takes, I particularly love the depiction of healthy communication between various characters. From friends to romantic interests, teachers, parents etc. there have been so many instances of these kids discussing their feelings with people they care about instead of bottling things up until they blow up in their faces which is so refreshing. Drama happens, and like you said they’re not perfect because they’re young but they try and I think that’s important to see and to show young audiences.
Absolutely, this show is a great role model for both straight and LGBTQ+ teens on how good communication and respect for the other partner's feelings makes for a good relationship.
Pretty much every reactor I've seen absolutely spots the red flags from Ben in episode 1, how Ben doesn't care about Charlie's feelings, but Nick is so empathetic to Charlie and guilty about their relationship being secret hurting Charlie. It's so heartwarming that it's not only an inspiration for LGBTQ+ people but a demonstration on how real genuine relationships should function in a healthy way.

I just found you and I freakin love your reactions on heartstopper. Easiest subscribe ever!!!
RE: your thoughts on Kit Connor's acting. He really is very good and I've been very impressed with him since before Heartstopper. Definitely check out the film Little Joe. He switches from happy go lucky to disturbingly cold and is so utterly believable as being both while still the same character.
BTW, have also really been enjoying your reactions to the series. Good analysis and great interpretation of what's going on with different characters.
I love Kit Connor's acting, I'd never seen any other stuff he'd been in but he's incredible, the amount of emotion he shows just by facial expressions, especially in key scenes, you understand exactly how his character is feeling.
@@G1NZOU Yes. A perfect example is the B&Q advert Kit did with Dexter Fletcher before Rocketman. It's literally only a minute but it's all about visual expression and you completely understand what he's feeling through his face alone. Apprehension, hurt, resentment, smugness, anger, guilt, regret, thinking and finally happy. All that in just 60 seconds and each expression is nuanced. It works as a showreel on its own.
Sir I love your reactions! I have subscribed. And I truly appreciate that you refer to the show as realistic. So many reviewers and commenters have called it completely ridiculous fluff. You are spot on with your interpretation.
I think the creators and cast absolutely do realize how important this series will be.
I love this! You are so good when reacting to this show and you pinpoint all the really great moments of it in the way it deserves 🥰
I feel Nick didn’t know if he was actually going to go on the date with her until the very day of the date. So when he decided what he was gonna do. he texted her saying he couldn’t do tonight anymore. So he did tell her before the date at least.
Thank you! For your so open and heartfelt reaction and sharing your thoughts with us. Sending you much love from Germany 🧡
Love your reactions and your channel! Can't wait for the next two seasons of Heartstopper!!
The moment Nick started explaining himself to Imogen is when I finally broke. It brought back so many memories of my own time at school. I didn't come out until I was 19 and it never occurred to me just how much of myself I had suppressed. The writer of the comic really understands what it means to be a young person, particularly if you're queer
They are best friend for ever and Tao literally stated I want to prioritize our “friendship” over everything else
I just love Isaac, how he knew a long time ago while everyone else was clueless yet he just remained and his lane
THANK YOU! I’m so glad you understand Tao. Tao only feels like an antagonist because he’s “in-the-way” of Nick and Charlie’s relationship, but he doesn’t know everything we, the audience, know, and what little he has received, though misinformed, shapes his perception of the situation. I agree that Nick could’ve handled the whole Imogen thing better and tell Charlie, himself, sooner, but I understand. I can’t wait for you to finish this season and see your reactions. I’m kinda eager to see how you feel by the final shot… The wait for season 2 is racking my nerves in anticipation. I refuse to read the 3rd and 4th book. I like to be surprised when I see the series/movie and get more from the source material later.
I loved your reaction to this episode! You really understand and appreciate what makes Heartstopper so good.
I also agree that the show's importance CANNOT be overstated. It's literally going to save lives. Even as someone in their thirties who is "only queer from the ankles down" (my husband's words which, though true and hilarious, he's not allowed to repeat because ace erasure is a thing) the show has been on my mind non stop since I first watched it. It's got me diving into queer RUclips, reading books that reflect my own experience and made me realise a few things about myself that I'd never really considered before. I can only imagine what the show would mean to, say, a 14 year old who's questioning their own sexuality or gender identity.
Oh and if Kit Connor doesn't win at least three BAFTAs and an Oscar within the next decade, I will come back here and find a way to eat this comment.
Your commentary is the best in every way than any of the other utubers I have watched. Thank you Harry.
I love your take on the show and the characters! I think we're so used to more one-dimensional characters that are overly focused on one personality trait, so I love that the characters in this have their strengths AND their flaws, and you can see them doing their best where they're at 😊
I've watched 100 reactions to this show. I think yours are the best! And this one is the absolute best! 🙂 Thank-you! I look forward to the rest.
I love how Tao gets so relaxed when he is with Elle and he is more comfortable being himself and making jokes etc❤️✨
I love that you get Tao so much more than alot of other people who reacted to the show :)
And Tao doesn't know that there already is something going on with Charlie and Nick and even then Charlie chose not to tell Tao about Nick being his boyfriend. You can see it's making Nick so sad for Charlie because it's not only his own emotions but also knows Charlie has a difficult time because of their relationship.
The met you when I was younger comment is also reference to the bullying part. He knows how Charlie is struggling that and he wanted to be there to help.
Also Kit Connor (Nick) is such a good actor at showing his emotions with his face and its amazing because most of them like Joe Locke (Charlie) Tobie Donavon (Isaac) Yasmin Finney (Elle) this is all there first acting gig and alot more actors on the cast Kit Connor has done some other gigs when he was younger but it crazy how these actors went from not being known to the public to suddenly being on a show that hit 20+ million hours of watching within the first month and it hit the top 10 on Netflix in like the first week they went from not being known to the public to suddenly being known and its insane
I’ve been seeking out reaction videos for Heartstopper because this is is one of those shows that I want to be able to watch for the first time over and over again. I have to say that you have been one of my favorite creators reacting to this show. I’ve found that a lot of creators have been really judge-y toward certain characters and choices (particularly Imogen and Tao), but you’ve managed to really hit on the nuances and complications with simply being a teenager as well as not knowing the full story.
Thanks so much for putting this content out there. I am so looking forward to seeing the remaining three episodes from you and will definitely be subscribing to your Patreon.
I have said it once and I will say it again the people who picked the music need a HUGE raise, actually everybody needs a raise. Take all the money from, the show nobody wanted, the hype house show and give it to this show, so they can expand the budget, so hopefully we can see the Paris trip from the books and turn it in to something you can watch and enjoy, and give the people who worked on the show the actors, producers, and directors the raise they do deserve.
Netflix know how popular this show is, and so the budget for season 2 and 3 will be a lot more than season 1.
I love your perspective and insight into this; and your appreciation of the show and the actors. I have subscribed!
I love your reaction videos so much, especially on Heartstopper ! Your insight and analysis of the situation is super interesting and that's so refreshing to see someone not shittalk Tao or Imogen for their behavior, all of this makes the content very enjoyable to watch !
your commentary is sooooooo spot on!! you seem like such a sweet person, you are so well spoken, i adore your comments on this show i agree with everything you've said so far❤️
It has been renewed for two more seasons!!!!
Love your genuine reaction to this show 🙌🏼💙
The next 2 seasons are confirmed 🤭
I agree with every single word of you... and more... even for people that haven't this series while struggling at younger age (me for instance)... this would literally help me a lot to understand myself and maybe (just maybe) would help me build some courage to accept me earlier and coming out earlier as well. Even now, it warms my heart this show and help me process things that still raw inside me.
Something else regarding Tao is that these characters aren't adults. They're 14, 15 and 16 year olds, with all the immaturity and emotional volatility and inexperience and problems expressing their feelings that teenagers that age tend to have. So Tao is protective of Charlie AND distrustful of Nick, AND scared that he'll lose him, AND has no real idea how to deal with these contrasting feelings in a productive way or explain how he feels to Charlie or Nick, so it comes out as him being sullen or throwing tantrums.
I love how you're always so honest and expressive in your reviews, that's why I stayed in the channel as a subscriber! :)
I watch A LOT of Heartstopper reactions from different people on YT and your commentary/thoughts/insights are my favourite 🥰 Some of the insights you provided in this video really hit home for me in a way that the scenes alone didn't. So thank you for that 💙💛💟
I think Elle's smile dropping might be because she saw how Tao reacts to change, and he's been so adamant about putting their friendship above everything else that she probabably feels bad about developping romantic feelings for him.
IT WAS JUST RENEWED FOR TWO MORE SEASONS!!! 😃 This means we're probably getting the entire comic series!
Also you are the only one who has brought up Elle's insecurities about liking Tao as being because she's trans, and I really appreciate that. A lot of it has to do with change, yeah, but as a trans person, I really related to that specific moment. I'm glad you caught that shift in expression.
I love your Heartstopper reactions. Yours are the most real, well thought out and accurate. You're a peach Harry ♥️
I love how you went from your opinion of Imogen 'skyrocket'ing to 'oh f$%# off Harry' in one breath 😂😂😂
Love love love your reaction videos on Heartstopper. :-D
8:48 - I feel kind of the same way, and I'm not even single! :'D But I guess I just kinda miss the "blossoming love phase". They really captured that so well in this series, makes me all giddy. :-)
nick and charlie has a speical bond and their connection towards each other and also there chemistry so powerful.and there passion is so magical and the hug that nick gave charlie is for saying iam sorry that u feel u have to keep this a secaret to me nick feel so bad that he ask charlie that but charlie is makeing sure that nick is ok that he will be there though the rough and good and he will support him in verty thing he goes though because they both love each other . and i love how nick was honest to charlie explaning what happen and how he feels and also to Imogen as well it take alot for sameone to press there feelings to people that they care about. and the photo was so beautiful them them in the snow together haveing a speical magic time together.
For this show is surprising for two greats reasons :
- All the characters, have normals problemes, but they always take the rights decisions to solved it.
- Even if this show almost don't have drama, the all thing is strangely realistic, and make me believe that the situations were everything goes well can exist.
I think one of the things this show (and the comics) does that is really special is give ALL young people, regardless of their sexuality, a blueprint for how to have a healthy relationship. Nick and Charlie don't always get it right but they are kind and honest and we so rarely see that as a two way thing in films and TV these days. I don't want to undermine it's huge importance for LGBTQ+ folks because that's a really big deal but I think there is other amazing stuff about the show which is talked about less.
The reaction of elle's feelings @ 24:30 you were talking about is probably the promise she made to Tao in episode 3 "Kiss" that they"ll keep their frienship above everything else.
My heart just got crumbled and drenched by Nick and Charlie the audiobook. And so thank you for help me get my heart beating again
Yes yes yes. I'm a queer parent and have a queer kid who's in 6th grade (US - I think the same as UK Year 7?), and we've watched it together, and it's bittersweet for me that I didn't have anything like this, but I'm so so thankful my kid has it. And that all kids have the modeling of healthy conversations and relationships (not just romantic relationships, either). It's just so amazing, both as entertainment and as a resource.
And yes, the whole cast is so great, but especially Kit. You can see every little bit of Nick's emotion, and Kit just NAILS it.
You do know that the actor playing NICK NELSON is KIT CONNOR from ROCKETMAN.... Amazing actor!
Thank you Harry!
What an excellent reaction and analysis just full of insightful commentary.
Yes, exactly! Heartstopper brings the story-relevant drama without unnecessary drawn-out extraneous drama. And it really does bring the kindness, caring and hope. Kit Connor and Joe Locke are as close to perfection as anyone could hope for as Nick and Charlie and that elevates Alice Oseman's already brilliant writing.
** And, yes, not One but Two more seasons!
"Friend" was a phenomenal episode, this had so many wonderful scenes like Nick's talk with his mum, Nick's talk with Charlie and Nick's talk with Imogen. I was really looking forward to your reaction to this one as much as to "Kiss" and ...episode 8. You do not disappoint!
I mean, you're right, there still is a lot of negativity, homophobia, transphobia and just plain ignorance in the world but maybe a lovely piece of art like Heartstopper can gently benefit those with questions about themselves and everyone else too. Communication and visibility (yes, representation) really do inevitably and eventually defeat ignorant hate and baseless fear.
(We) Look forward to your reactions to the remaining three ....
thanks for sharing your passion and creativity!
all the best to you,
💙💛,
k
I believe the reason Elle's face fell is because she knows how committed Tao is to their friend group and how she promised him to always put their friendship first. She's afraid that admitting her feelings would be too much change for Tao in the midst of all the friendship changes he is already going through.
