Russia could become a linux country, or even a country with more alternative software developement. You could create a new channel for discovering these aspects.
Hey great video, looks like you have found a nice work/life balance! I'm a full stack engineer and architect in the U.S. Haven't taken a day off in three years and I'm feeling it. I really believe the most important thing we as engineers and developers can do is to find a proper balance and not work to the point of feeling permanently burnt out, exhausted, and depressed. Go where your heart takes you and enjoy life!
It will always be a mystery why people would want to live in London. Extremely romanticised and it's especially crazy since you literally gave up paradise for a grey, depressing city. Great video though
It’s all about opportunities. If you check your contract they you will see that even if you’re remote then you still have to be based in the same country. Sometimes companies give you a bit flexibility but living too long in other country can mess up your taxes.
just found this channel today and just finished watching all the videos. my great-grandparents came to US dos Açores (São Miguel, Terceira). maybe one day I will visit Portugal. Algarve looks beautiful. muito obrigado 🙂
I think we're living the same life - I am a software engineer based in London, I was visiting my sister in Algarve earlier this month at the same time as you and I worked remotely from there. Also a RUclipsr with almost the same number of subs - freaky :D . In all seriousness I just found your channel and looks like content I would enjoy :)
Love this video! I relate a lot with your last thoughts, as a Spanish I have thought so many times about moving back to Spain. Maybe this year is the year!? As someone that WFH all the time it's honestly when is grey when it's clearer to me I should go back! Also agree about your WFH thoughts, I need my routine and when I have tried a digital nomad lifestyle I found I prefer to stay on the same place for at least 2 to 3 weeks to get the most of that place - and build a sense of routine - Thanks for sharing! Hope London is treating you nicely! 🙏🏻
Your thoughts on productivity when working remotely reminded me of an idea from a book stating that one of our greatest daily time wasters is decision-making and that affects our productivity. So, sticking with a daily routine (like you do) where we by default do and not think reduces wasted time. When working remotely we must plan for everything and that can be exhausting and affect our job performance. But when visiting our home town and our relatives some of that planning is reduced and we can enjoy ourselves more freely. I'm taking these thoughts with me for when, and if, I reach my dream remote job :)
Thank u for the support ☺️ it’s in the Algarve, most areas are worth visiting! I’d recommend checking out Albufeira, Tavira, Lagos, Carvoeiro or Portimão :)
Algarve looks beautiful. Birds singing, lots of trees, blue skies, no buildings and very close to the ocean and probably good food and wine. I would pick Algarve over London every single time.
Hi, Jackie, I really enjoy your videos. They create so much relaxation and cozyness for me :) Please do more these! P.S. I also adore your intro music and "byeee" in the end 😊
The low-key hilarity for me as an American considering the Digital Nomad life _in Portugal,_ and meanwhile you have been trying to go somewhere else. I sincerely hope that you end up in whatever place your heart tells you is *Home.* ^‿^
Wow. I was looking at places on Airbnb in Algarve these past few days because it looked like a cool place to go and now I saw your video today lol. I guess the universe is telling me something. Também foi legal ouvir você e sua família falando um pouco em português! Me inscrevi no seu canal faz pouco tempo e nunca teria imaginado que você é de Portugal. Que legal!
Love the video Jackie. It looks like you had a great time despite the difficulties in concentrating. I too don't think I can live a digital nomad lifestyle as I'd probably prefer having a clean separation from work and relaxation. I'm interested in learning more about how FAANG companies conduct interviews and what they look for as I look forward to transitioning from DevOps into Software Development in the future. Looking forward to your tips and perspective on this :)
Hi Jackie. I am so glad I have come across your video. I am a Greek person living in Australia. Me and my parents migrated to Australia many years ago. At some stage I went back to Greece to work and I missed life events with my family. Now that I am back in Australia I am happy to share life events with my family. Create memories as I say. I am a matured student studying a Bachelor of Information technology majoring in Software engineering. I would love to be a Software engineering one day. I really like your youtube video.
you should probably make a video on your experiences in mechanical engineering and then switching to software engineering..and some tips and resources that we can follow to do the same..Thank you
Love so much this type of video. I often think of going to work from another country since I am in Paris. Can't wait to see more videos about your thoughts (and kisses to Kimba 🥰)
I have noticed that a lot of us (I wanna say girls because I am speaking for myself and my girlfriends) who left our eastern/southern European countries to live in West Europe are all struggling with the feelings of wanting to go back home or continue building our careers and lives here through our twenties. Maybe the pandemic, feeling rather isolated at times because it's hard to find your own communities as a foreigner, or even the fact that adult life is getting harder and going back to your precious family always feels like such a great escapism. The work that you do (full-time, youtube etc) is really impressive and definitely worth looking up to! ✨ xoxo
I agree that working while travelling isn't really all that, and it gets lonely pretty quick. I did it almost full time for 3 years but during and after covid I had no interest in continuing it, so now I just go on one week trips where I work part time :) Bonus: I don't spend whatever money I make on AirBnb :D
I agree with your thoughts on remote work. Like it would definitely be cool to be able to travel and see the world while still being able to work but I need my setup and that can't travel 😅😅
Jackie, apart from being close to family, what place/city in Portugal would you consider for yourself? To suit your rhythm of life and with the condition that you have a remote job. It could be TOP 3-5

Holly molly only now noticed you were Portuguese xD. I am also Portuguese and a software engineer, and it's so funny that you are currently living in London since it has been one of the things i was considering to do, almost for the same reasons you mentioned at the end of this video. It would be nice to ear what was you experience moving to London (something that i'm personally wondering since im am considering living there someday :P). Continua com o bom trabalho, tenho achado os teus vídeos muito interessantes :)

Ask your self this question if you never had to work again where would you be happy, Londen? Nope, home, maybe, would you still develop code just for fun, probably. In the end for me i realised i failed, i wasn't happy at all alone no matter where i would be, i need a significant other to be happy, simple as that, so i move to where ever she may be.
Hi Jackie. At the end of the video you mention the idea of moving to Portugal. Would you say you could work remotely from Portugal and at the same time having the salary as in London? Or does it depends on the company and/or your negotiation skills when negotiating working conditions in the contract? Thank you!
Really good and relatable videos, thank you! I’m super curioso now though, you made it sound like moving to Berlin after graduation was the first time you moved abroad, but I was under the impression that you grew up in Germany? What did I miss?
As much as i love london i would move back to my family if i was you. I am currently living 700km away from my family and it hurts to see them only every 6 months.
