- ‘Portable Heart’ demo from 2010 played for the first time on LIFE with John Mayer on November 29, 2023. The song was originally recorded to be part of Born and Raised but did not make the cut.
Wish he would release these demos. True fans want all the unreleased songs even if they're not 100% "album worthy". We've been listening to them as poor quality live recordings for years!
we may get them in an anniversary box set some time in the future

First time hearing this, and I’m already toe-tapping to it! Easily, you’re one of the most gifted artists to come along! I’ve been fortunate to have seen 3 of your shows through the years. The last one was in Boston, a surprise for Mother’s Day, from my son, who lives there!

Have listened to the Hotel Cafe version probably 300+ times, sounds like John was struggling with his voice a bit more when he recorded this but it is SO validating to finally hear the demo. Won't happen, but would love if John re-released Born and Raised having re-recorded some of the numbers he struggled vocally on at the time and included a new version of this number! One of the best of the album cycle.
Okay John, when are we getting the Walt Grace theatrical production?
I think the healing on record makes that inspiring. That is a singers writer's worst nightmare .

Hi John, wish I could get moved back home in the South(soon).. Please don't be discouraged by my absence listening to your music. At times, I listen to nothing and tune into nature. Mostly lately, isolating from people's pains, pointing fingers... Casting stones. So " I built a house of the stones.
This has been one of my absolute favorite unreleased John Mayer songs since I first heard the live version he performed at Hotel Cafe in LA. Definitely should have been on Born and Raised or Paradise Valley! I wish he’d make a third folk/Americana album and give this song another shot.

John's songs touch me in a way that I can never truly express. This one really resonates with me, as I have ADHD, and have felt this way all my life.

John Mayer is my favorite modern artist.
Once again I really love this and I personally like it better than at least five or six songs that didn’t make the album, perhaps there was another reason that John didn’t include it
