Saved the day! I've just had my tea. Put the telly on (load of shite) Then I get a notification Simon Eardley vlog. Great! Sumert decent to watch 👍. Thank Simon.
Another inspiring film Si , cheers mate . I’m awaiting a TV series , you’re a natural . !Your enthusiasm is infectious and you’ve always had a great, affable personality . I think you’re hide will be popular mate , ..never mind hiring it, I could live in that 😂😂 Il buy you a brew !👍👍
Hi, I'm a new subscriber,, here in West Yorkshire, we've got loads of red kites, around the Otley and Ilkley area,, absolutely stunning birds,, just working my way through your back catalogue,, 👍👍
I love these exploring vids you do, its proper wildlife photography. Days that are fruitless, then amazing days, its what makes it such a special hobby. Recci, research, planning all great tips for producing the kind of images that you achieve. Looking down on birds in flight is such lovely sight, glad youre fit enough to tackle those climbs for our benefit mate……..well done you👌looking forward to the next one.
WOW, what fantastic footage. Amazing to see those birds just soaring way above the ground - so graceful and beautiful. I can quite see why you go out to film them - what a great way to spend some time. Thank you for sharing - take care 🙂.
Luckily where I live in Sussex about 5 mins from my house there is a family of 8 Red Kites that live on the South Downs. They are always soaring around and happily easy to shoot. Wonderful birds and make for amazing in-flight photos. I am very lucky to have them so close
@@RogerJones-mountfield I am sure there are many many red kites all over the UK. They are everywhere now, my point was I have a big family of kites always around where I live.... which if you love shooting them feels very lucky
Great video Simon, always something to learn each time you go out. We have lots of kites and buzzards here in Norfolk but no hills so I'm a bit stuffed for getting up high for dark backgrounds here. 😕
I remember going to Plynlimon back in the mid 80s with my parents to try to see a kite. There were only a handful in the country at the time. We'd given up and turned around to go home then one flapped lazily across the road about 20 metres away. It was incredible! I went to Watlington Hill the other day and there were several soaring just a few metres above my head. Amazing. Got some semi decent pics with my Sigma with a non sky background.
I just had my Saturday night chippy dinner and watched your video Simon and it was lovely to chill and watch whilst munching on some tasty fish and chips! What a wonderful area you live in! I can definitely see why you wanted to move to this location it’s amazing all this on your doorstep wow! Photographers dream 💭
Cheers Simon, fantastic location. Endless possibilities and like you say, always learning and you never know what you’re going to see. Quality good as always. All the best. 👍📷😎
Lovely to see an exploring film again. This is proper wildlife photography. Part recce for future ideas and a few shots in the can. We know that 90% of the time its so so but we never know when it will be a wow moment. Lots of sitting, drinking tea and snacks outdoors, whats better. Great work Simon.
Good to see you getting out and about Simon and taking a break from the graft. What better way to spend a few hours than out on a hillside with the camera, photographing raptors. Keep up the good work mate. 👍
My best shot was a Wiltshire Buzzard this week too. My Red kites were too high. Sometimes it's just the thrill of the chase and the scenery Simon👍 Awesome
Looks like you had a cracking autumn day for a “mooch” in your backyard. Wonderful scenery and colours. Shame you didn’t get to photograph the Red Kites but those berry bushes look so attractive for the Redwings and Fieldfares when they arrive …. and maybe the odd Waxwing too!
You know I've enjoyed it! I especially liked seeing an overview of The Homestead. You have a great place to live, Simon. And, I know how difficult kites can be. Over a period of three days I managed to get one good series of kite shots last summer. It had flared to take an insect out of the air and I got the flared tail and wings. My shot was with my 500 f/4 as was yours. Eight point six pounds that one. I had it on a gimbal. Using my Z8.
Great video Simon. And good advice on getting height to get a better background with kites in flight. Not sure if you are aware but you do have two great red kite feeding hides or visitor centers around 1.5hrs drive from your new place. Girgrin farm in Rhayder or Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre just up from Aberystwyth. Both are amazing but as you get so many red kites at once during the feeding period it can be tricky to concentrate on one particular bird. In the past I would enjoy the feeding period and then wait until after it goes quiet and capture images on the few remaining and focus on those. Great cafe as well at the aber one.
Yeh I'm aware of those feeding stations Simon. I must admit I prefer the challenge of the more solitary birds and having an explore. I believe its probably more difficult at the places you mention due to the massive numbers as you say. 👍🏼
Another great vlog Simon, you're quite right. The darker background behind the kites definitely makes the shot look better. I have loads of kites not far from where I live, so I think I might have to find an elevated location to get some shots.
Another Great video Simon. Ive just bought a Pygtech onepro flex backpack which has a great hiking harness system that seperates you back from the pack. Extremely comfortable.
Nice to see you getting to know your new surroundings Simon. I'm not sure exactly where you are in Mid Wales but you can't be too far away from Nant-Bwlch yr Arian where they feed the Red Kites daily. Roughly 200 birds when I was last there and you can get away from the crowd by climbing the mountain side and getting above them before and after they congregate. Keep up the good work 👍
Well done i definitely am going to visit your hides in the new year . Dji looks great i actually taughy you had a drone on tracking mode at strart. Well done on all your hard work
Ive yet to visit Wales, I lost the mindset to photograph wildlife A short while ago after losing my Beautiful son to suicide, Before this I won a few awards, Nothing great but ok, Next yr we may go to the big Antique fair in Builth wells, my wife & I work full time in the NHS & love to go to these fairs as I deal a bit on the side, Now Im thinking just maybe I can pop in here for a session, Another great Video Simon, TY
some hike that Simon, thought you was going to pull out the oxygen mask. Great video with some truly amazing scenes , well worth the physical exercise .
Great vlog again Simon, I use the 180-600 nearly all the time no problem with the F6.3 bump the iso up and put it through Pure Raw 4 no noise…I even put the Z1.4 converter on it, keep the vlogs coming better than TV matey
Nice video Simon, I know what you mean about sky backgrounds, we get the kites coming over from Longleat and can get some good images from our bedroom window! I went out on Thursday to a a wood on the top of the mendips to get some Autumn images but saw some Crossbills and didn't have my 180-600 with me!
Ay up Si. You know I'm sated by the raptors. Thoroughly enjoyable watch as per. Not bad result for just a recce eh? Lost a packet of fig rolls watching that somehow. They were with me at the start on the arm of the chair but all gone by the end of the vid. 😏 Any idea about calendars for 2025 yet or should I just keep prompting for another year? Stay safe and well.
Depending on which part of Powys you are in, there are quite a few places to get up close to the kites , South Powys (Sennybridge ) has quite a few of them upwards of 30 some days
Good evening Simon. Here, it is pouring with rain, and I'd just set up my meal in front of a low fire with some Munich sausage I had in the freezer, and a curry wurst ketchup, Your video made perfect viewing, thank you. The Kite are gorgeous. Could you post a link to the mid size Ghillie camera cover? Thanks. Time for a brew and a Fig biscuit.... A

The only thing I notice about that new camera is when you pan it doesn't keep focus. @17:00 while you are up the mountain it's noticeable .
