I honestly despise the moral of this story. "God" telling a father of a raped and murdered child to forgive and feel easy about it, cause now the kid is " happy" . BS!

The bible does not preach forgiveness without conditions, but it's a nice story about grief.
Mac and daughter are 100% responsible for their daughter/sister death. They need to reconcile with their mistakes not accept they weren’t responsible for them.

The god of this movies universe considers a young girl being mad and not talking much to her dad to be the same as a person who kidnaps, tortures and murders a child. So evil runs the show and the people have to "forgive" and accept it or they get damned. 🙄

I think the point of the movie is to show how difficult it is to forgive someone. However, when you don’t forgive, you are forever shackled to that anger and resentment. Forgiveness is not for the perpetrators, it’s for you

I can not imagine the pain a parent would feel if this happened to their child. Angry and rage would consume them.

One big problem we Christians have is our inability to realize when we become so religiously self opinionated that we don't see how far away we are from God Almighty. Us this movie perfect, maybe not but did it address some aspects of our existential issues in a world filled with goid and evil and how we react to them? Yes it did. Through sound study, meditation and honestly letting go so the Holy Spirit may teach you, you will be shocked at many truths this story touches on. Jesus did not come for Christains alone, He came for everybody especially the sinners, broken, battered, criminals, the unbelieving... These are His target and its all about love.

Learn to forgive is the most important thing to do.

Tim McGraw! Its a great message. Jesus didn't preach religion, he preached love.
My last pastor always explained that Christianity is actually at its core not a religion; but a movement.
Because the one thing all other religions have in common is: they all require us to do something, behave somehow, become someone, follow certain rules… in order to meet the demands of some God or be worthy of
asencion or whatever.
Christianity stands out of this because at its core, here the OPPOSITE is true: it doesn’t matter who I am or what I do, the point is: HE has already done everything; gone all the way.
THIS is the thought that caught me more than any other.

You’re ignoring tithing, the existence of the 10 commandments (and what happened to those freed Jews with the golden calf), God’s many punishments for disobedience (eating of the tree of knowledge, the great flood, the fall, the Tower of Babel).
As well as the various conditions demanded to be part of any of the many denominations: Catholic penance and confessions; the annual rituals required in Jewish faith; fasting, communion, baptism, last rites; Mormon practices like the act of shunning or abstaining from alcohol, coffee, and sex; Jehova’s Witness are required to physically spread the gospel.
And then there are many proclamations made throughout the Bible like: if you don’t believe fully then He will spit you out as you are lukewarm, forgive and forget, or the conditions to be met to be one of the 144,000 souls taken before the rapture…
Otherwise, everyone else will go burn in hellfire.
In this movie, god is a limited and flawed being, unable to control his own creation.
Then why isn't God controling Putin and the several other people making war?

The biggest issue with these type of ‘existential talking with God’ stories is their rationale for why bad things happen is always the God-character (who created everything) basically saying _”Look, I don’t make the rules.”_ And everyone gleefully accepts. 🧐
You'd rather go talk to a God which doesn't reflect humanity, and is just the physical laws of the universe? Physics is great and all, but it's probably not the best thing to help most people come to terms with grief.

What would be the point? Where would their joy be? Where would their adventure and wisdom come from? What would be the point of life? And if that child's course was determined by you, who would determine the course for the children of that child? G-d gives us free will, the ability to choose, but the greatest gift is HIS eternal love. Same as a parent's eternal love for their child no matter what the circumstances are. So long as you accept this love. G-d expects you to choose and make mistakes, so that you may grow in wisdom and joy.

Before being a movie it was a book with the same title (The Shak) written by William Paul Young who he claims is based on his own life encounters.
I read the book and i saw the movie, i highly recommend reading the book.
I'm not catholic, i have my own believes and theories, take it for a simple and inspirational fictional story.
It's a really good story.

Most of the people we can verify were real. And if even if it was made up completely from imagination, the bible is being revered nearly 6000 years later, while no one remembers this movie 6 months after it was done.

Well God comes in all forms and is the last thing you expect, a beggar, an old women, a young man; maybe thats why they did that in the film.
Absurdity is in the eye of the beholder. Frankly, a God who has to be male in a world where more than one sex exists is absurd to me. (A God that has to be a single being, like a human would be, or has to be a "creator" distinct from its "creation" is also absurd to me, but that's another story.)
