We spend A trillion dollars a year on the military, so why can't all that wonderful equipment & troops be used to benefit our nation by fighting these fires?
You'd think now is the time for California to start cutting the wild grasses like they use to do, but no, those programs were de-funded 30 years ago. It's much more profitable to pass the firefighting costs to the Federal government by declaring a 'State of Emergency'.

Secondly, Nestle is sucking up all the aquifer water that hydrates the forest and selling it to you in plastic bottles that never decay. It takes millions of years for underground aquifers to fill, and Nestle a couple decades to drain. Lastly, little weevils have infested the trees, boring them full of holes. So the pine forests are now dry, aerated, and weakened by these pests. It's all a fucking tinderbox. But yeah, your stupid idea. Sure. Manage away.

I live in wrightwood. We had zero warning. The fire was 5 miles from town when we got our first alert which said mandatory evacuation. I've been through 3 other fires and we always had a lot of info. given to us way ahead of time. Cal Fire failed us.

If you haven't seen Santa Ana's push a fire it's unbelievable it can get up to over 70 mph or more, Seen fire jump 8 lane freeway like it wasn't even there! On one fire the lead man on the hose didn't have helmetshield down and a large shingle got ripped from the roof and smacked him right between his eyes. It dazed him ,he went to his knees. He was fine after awhile but he was ribbed about it for quite a while😅.
Beyond the fire devastation aftermath and costs for rebuild, is the near future situation with water. Last 2 years of massive benefits likely all but wasted by bad policies and land management. It will not be surprising that our drought situation by 2025 or 2026 will be the worst ever. Considering the wet seasons and El Nino will be at least another 5-10 years from now - this state is doomed.
