Hi... I follow all ur scientific reviews... I request you to make a review on latest fitbit charge 6 please. Thanks in advance.. after viewing your review abt samsung watch 6, i dropped my thought to have it . Thanks
I was wondering if you could kindly do a comparison for the Huawei watch ultimate which is known as the Apple Watch killer and Huawei flagship model for watches.
The Ultra 2 has been a lot better at tracking my heart rate on runs than the Ultra 1 was on my skinny wrist. To fix cadence lock on my U1 I had to wear the watch further up my forearm. With the U2, I can wear it on my wrist without it mistaking my running cadence for my heart rate.
Out of curiosity what made you risk getting the new one? I work out every single day and use my ultra 1 23 hours a day. Based on the keynote, there was nothing that made think about upgrading.
Rob, immer beeindruckende Leistung! These are the BEST reviews on RUclips. Actual data, objective facts. You are an excellent engineer/data scientist! Your results are the driving force for me to abandon Fitbit (and hence Android/Pixel) for Apple's ecosystem (not yet, as IOS is still too dumbed down IMHO, and iPhone 15s are so new to USB [never lightning for me!!] ). Regarding the GPS tracking, it is interesting that the Series 9/Ultra 2 shifts were REVERSED - SW/NE on your rides TO work vs FROM work. The Series 9 biases left, and the Ultra 2 biases right. Thoughts?
This whole video and especially the “side by side” at 11:18 epitomizes how helpful you are Rob! Can see your love for this and you need more subs ASAP.
If you get up to use the bathroom close to the alarm time then go back to sleep, it doesn’t record anymore sleep. If I wear my Garmin Fenix watch and the Apple Watch Ultra (Ultra 1), and sync my Garmin sleep data to Apple Health, it adds the missing sleep data.
Excellent as always. This confirms my impression that for OHR Apple is the best currently possible (I have no intention of getting one, but I'm still watching Rob's reviews because I'm interested) as it is for sleep tracking (no interest to me with my 72 year old bladder). On Rob's advice, I got an H10 and a Verity Sense and I'm very pleased with these so I haven't bought any smartwatch yet. I might do, depending on Rob's review if he does one, but I'm not saying what it is as he already has enough testing to do without me trying to influence his choice. I'm pretty sure I would be happy with any of the big names which work on Android- GPS is already better than I will ever need. Thanks again
Hey Rob! Thanks so much for your work here, I love your videos. I mentioned it in a comment before, I suffer from panic attacks and I find the AW so helpful knowing the HR is so reliable on the apple watch series 9., thanks to your videos. It gives me peace of mind. I do have a request though :D I had a whoop before and I loved the HRV readings, but in the end I found it was making me anxious about performance as soon as I woke up so I stopped the subscription. I was wondering though, could you do a video on how accurate the HRV readings are from the apple watch series 9, please?
Could wrist movement be mitigated by wearing the strap a bit tighter? Not necessarily SQUEEZING your arm but at least tighter to the point where it doesnt move.
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I’m curious, can I wear my Apple Watch on the inside of my wrist? I generally like wearing my watches this way, it prevents damage and is easier to look at for me.
how much does an actual Polysomnography device cost? How hard is it to get it? How comfortable is it to sleep with one? How understandable is the data to a lay person? I think it would be super cool if you did a video on this kind of (non-consumer) device as well. The Apple Watch may be kinda good but still is not the gold standard (actually measuring brain waves). Great videos. 🧠✌
A whopping 64 gigabytes of storage on the wrist this year compared to 32 on the OG Ultra shouldn't be slept on in my opinion, given how long Apple Watches get software support and how handy it might be in the future.
Since sleep tracking does not only depend on the device, but the software used is equally important, it would be really interesting to see tests of the sleep tracking performance of various apps (e.g. Pillow) on a high quality smart watch like an apple watch 9.
The deviation of the HR sensor results at the low heart rate could actually be due to the higher weight of the Ultra compared to the Series 9. The lower heart rate indicates running phases with a lower cadence, which leads to a higher vertical oscillation, maybe you should review the data parallel to the cadence.
Apple Watch SE 2nd generation or Apple Watch series 9? I’m a 28 year old guy who goes to gym 5 days a week, who completes 10-12k steps everyday. I’m thinking to go for the gps version from the above mentioned watches.
Hi Rob! It would be great if you would be willing to do a thorough analysis of the Athlytic app in the near future. I'm very curious about your thoughts on this. Kind regards! 🙂
At 31:03 you start talking about the difference. To be clear did you also switch the ultra 2 en the 9 between left and right wrist? I notice difference when wearing the gps device on the left if richt side.
HI, I was wondering could you include swimming in your future test data? As there are quite a lot of water based activity with the Apple Watch especially with the Apple Watch Ultra.
I noticed that you haven't done a review on Polar Vantage V2, but you did a review on the Vantage M. Today, Polar just released a Vantage V3 and I was wondering if you could do a review on it. I love your videos and I would appreciate it. Thank you so much!
One question, can you recommend a fitness watch to me? I came across your videos a few days ago. And I just can't find a suitable watch for me. I need a watch that has a long battery life. Garmin is the leader of GPS because they've been doing it a long time for airplanes and uses around 3 different satellite networks for their watches. They also have good battery life, so are often the choice for backpackers
To many reviews for apple.. Are you being paid by jobs?... I will wait for the charge 6 that they have compared it against the hr polar band... Need to check sleep stages😮
Apple Watch Ultra II is a POS. I purchased as I am an Apple Fan Boy but wish I didn’t. If you buy this product, first read and understand the return policy because you will likely need that information. I love my other 6 Apple products but I beleive the Ultra II SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

One thing I just realized watching this very detailed analysis is that you may need to go back to testing the older apple watches with the newer iOS update(s). I believe the apple watch 7 and 8 should be nearly identical… this may be just margin of error as well.
I bought the apple watch 9 as my first smart watch because of the sleep tracking and accurate HR measurement. I am constantly following your channel, it is a great help for users before buying a smart watch/sports watch. Thank You!

Awesome video as always. We also need a review of the new Pixel Watch 2. The first one wasn't that bad, hopefully they improved in this new generation. Could you also talk a bit about the overall battery life?
Your videos are simply unmatched! My odd request would be a video about how performance is impacted when wearing wrist trackers on other parts of the body (e.g. biceps). Some sources claim HR tracking actually improves for example. For me, the Apple Watch offers exactly what I need, but I generally prefer to wear analogue watches.
Amazing review! Could you maybe run a review on different apps for sleep tracking (sleep cycle, auto sleep etc)? I think That’s super interesting. I wonder which one is best to detect different sleep stages or if Apple standard sleep is the most accurate among them. Thanks a lot!
INCREDIBLE JOB TESTING THE Ultra 2!! 👏👏👏 Since the wayward data points are for slower heart rates, is it possible the Ultra 2 is not sampling the heart rate as often as the Polar and is simply not grabbing the heart rate data when the heart rate quickly dips to a low rate? Also, and I apologize for even asking this as I'm sure you've considered it, but do you compared the heart rate of your Polar to several other "reference devices" to make sure the Polar is spot-on and worthy of being your single reference devices during these tests? I mention this because I know when testing the performance of power meters, usually they are compared to the values of at least two other reference power meters whose data has been well documented. Since the Ultra 2 has just been released and we are still in the earlystages of WatchOS 10 (which is still a bit buggy), it will be interesting to see if Apple addresses some of this anomalous performance in future updates.
I'm a subscriber & I really enjoy your videos. But I can't help wondering whether it's a mistake to draw conclusions about specific watch generations, while working from an extremely small hardware sample size. (n=1? n=2?) Much of your data is at such a granular level that I can't help wondering how much variation can be expected between different watches in the same generation. Is your Apple Watch Ultra 2 really slightly worse than the original AWU or is the particular AWU 2 you received from Apple - just slightly worse than an average AWU 2? Or was your AWU 1 slightly better than an average AWU 1? Have you ever looked into this kind of variation? Thanks!
Hallo Rob, do you think there is a difference in sleep tracking capabilities between Apple Watch 5 and Series 9, with both having the newest WatchOS installed? Is there a difference and is its worth buying a new model? Also, which app is the best? You said in another video that the whoop and also Oura Ring apps are among the best (if I remember correctly), because what Apple offers in terms of app is only the health app which is not great. I seems that the whoop app seems the best, since you can actually track how different factors (like drinking alcohol at dinner before) change your sleep.. right? What do you think? I think only with the Apple Watch 5 I don't get very far... Whats your opinion? Or is the Apple Watch with some app a great combination? Read somewhere else that the SleepWatch app might be a good options? Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you for your review. Apple watch is the best everyday watch and that is why I will be getting the series 9. If Ultra can match the GPS tracking in the mountains of the Garmin then the apple watch should be almost perfect overall. I used your video on what watch I will buy to my parents. Thank you and more power to your channel
Amazing channel and great quality reviews. @The Quantified Scientist would you please consider testing Casio G-Shock GBD-H2000 or GBD-H1000. Thank you!
@The Quantified Scientist - Amen to what you noted about the Apple Watch creating an AI based chat for insights to health. I see the Pixel Watch 2 has something similar, In reality what has brought the most change and learning experience to my life has been the Oura Ring and Whoop. Even though I have the Ultra 2, having the Oura and Whoop had made me seriously consider the Pixel Watch 2. Thanks again for excellent video and research. Always love watching your channel and learning so much.
There is a lot of BS here. Especially using the Polar Strap as a reference device. According to Polar's testing against medical-grade heart rate equipment and other heart rate sensors - the ECG H10 sensor detects HR within 2 ms accuracy at 92.9% for running, 99.3% for cycling, 95.3% for weight training, 95.6% for all activities combined. To come to the conclusion that the Series 9 is better than the Ultra 2 using a reference device which such a high margin of error is not something a scientist will do. He is clearly coming to these conclusions for the clicks. There is no true statistical difference between Ultra 2 or Series 9. He would need to do get a better reference which a bunch of electrodes hooked up and better statistical tools that are not correlation.
WOW - Such comprehension in this review! I just received my new ULTRA 2 and looking forward to enjoying it. Cheers from a new Subscriber in Western Australia
The samsung watch 5 pro got a huge update lately. The HR sensor feels much closer to medical devices. It would be nice to redo a test with this device, it's a good apple alternative that people choose. Would you consider retesting it? Cheers
Really interesting! For GPS reviews, instead of looking at tracks, can you lay out a precisely measured course of at least 1 KM and then test the watches on 10 runs over that course to compute the accuracy and precision?
Returned mine bought through Amazon good returns policy just had too many weaknesses to justify £800 for a watch which already sells £500 s/h. Watch 6 does the same for half the price.

I'm a subscriber & I really enjoy your videos. But I can't help wondering whether it's a mistake to draw conclusions about specific watch generations, while working from an extremely small hardware sample size. (n=1? n=2?)
Much of your data is at such a granular level that I can't help wondering how much variation can be expected between different watches in the same generation. Thanks!
could an software update fix the sleep tracking (thinking you didn't go back to sleep)? or is it a sensor issue
Rob. It’s the strap. Switch to a different strap. 🤦♂️
Can you please make a video for pixel watch 2?
Pixel Watch 2 video coming soon I hope!
Are you going to do review for CMF(by Nothing) watch pro?

Cheers
lol
Really interesting! For GPS reviews, instead of looking at tracks, can you lay out a precisely measured course of at least 1 KM and then test the watches on 10 runs over that course to compute the accuracy and precision?
Returned mine bought through Amazon good returns policy just had too many weaknesses to justify £800 for a watch which already sells £500 s/h. Watch 6 does the same for half the price.
