Lain was an experience, quiet, vague and the ending leaves you depressed af. The anime is a vibe, a classic even though it exists little before i was even born.
That's why I don't like a lot of 90s shit man. Way too depressing and hopeless for me to enjoy it. I don't have to be happy while watching something, but I do have to have some base level of enjoyment.
I love how the universal reaction is just pinpointing the emotions that "Duvet" puts onto you, the nostalgia of the old 90s computer/TV aesthetic and the emotions of isolation and loneliness enforced in Lain's somber expressions.
