I put straw then compost, and when it dropped in the late fall, I mounded them back full with fall leaves mixed with blood meal and bone meal for nitrogen to break them down over winter. About March, I turn leaves into the compost layer under them. It's beautiful soil now.
Aawww I got excited for a second there thought we were going to see your dad's garden again lol. Great video anyway Benji.....love the fence around the garden too 😊🇦🇺
I'd worry about ants taking over the straw, I had some bales of straw that I used to raise my cats house and the ants took over the bale - it was so gross..

Compost worms aka Red Wigglers are the best indication of great soil.
Yes. I container & raised bed gardening. Thx. Blessings
Could you use straw that’s been in the chicken coop for this layer?? Having trouble finding that answer anywhere
Do you have to condition the straw, or just put it in the bed and cover with soil and compost?
Has the straw plants been sprayed and if so does this herbicide affect the garden?

Hay is from alfalfa not grain shafts.
