6:48 I grew up listening to a 7-inch story record of "101 Dalmatians" that centered on Lucky (one of the original 15 puppies) & his futile attempts to become a TV star. Cruella de Vil, her minions & the other 84 puppies were nowhere mentioned on the story side of the record, although the B-side did have the songs "Cruella de Vil" & "101 Dalmatians."
I'm watching all the videos to this great documentary. Mat, speaking as a HUGE Disney fan, you did an amazing job with this! :) Uncle Walt would be proud. :) And since we're on the part about Peter Pan, I've met Margaret Kerry, TWICE! :) She's really nice and said she is so thrilled with the attention Tink has received over the years. :)
What I like most about Lady and the Tramp are the characters and how well the voices matched them. Like Barbara Luddy was a wonderful Lady and Alan Reed was an irresistable Boris.
Nice that you mention The Kingdom Keepers books in this video. They're wonderfull books (I'm reading most of them online) and Maleficent is the perfect villain for those stories.
The first time I saw The Sword in the Stone was on Disney Channel. This was back when Disney Channel stopped being premium. So at the time, families with cable had the choice of choosing between Nickelodeon and Disney Channel when it comes to watching kids networks. Cartoon Network would be in the same situation a short time later.
Dumbo was actually a very little known children's book/scroll but it's out of print, even back then and very rare to find. Walt Disney found it on book shelf and decided to use it.
3:06 I wonder if that inspired that Lady and the Tramp short in a Simpsons episode I remember seeing? As for Sleeping Beauty, it was unfortunately one of the very few Disney films I didn't own a VHS copy of as a kid. Also, since there's an upcoming spinoff focusing on Maleficent, I wonder if that was inspired from what AniMat mentioned as her being one of the greatest Disney Villains?
It should be noted that in 101 Dalmatians had one more Lady & the Tramp reference during the "Twilight Bark" scene, Peggy (or Peg) the female dog from the pound could be seen in a pet shop window.
on your annotation the original play had Tinkerbell poisoned and had the audience clap to revive her. Understand that Peter Pan was the very first play specifically written for children, and the audience participation was to involve the children in the play itself. I can actually see why this was dropped from the film in the first place
Don't forget Arthur was voiced by three actors! You can tell since in some scenes his voice isn't broken and others it's partly broke and in others it's fully broke!
You know what I found out all the classic era princesses ( Snow White Cinderella and sleeping beauty) they all have female antagonists (the evil queen malfeafint and lady tremane
In 2002, there was Peter Pan: Return to Never Land where Wendy had a daughter named Jane. Jane is the new Wendy. Peter Pan: Return to Never Land is my favorite Disney film.
Did you know that Bambi wasn't an original film because Bambi was based off of a novel? Where him and his mate are actually cousins xD? But they end up together anyways.
00:48! Actually, they did that in Peter Pan 2, well not the poisoning stuff, but Tinkerbell dying because Jane doesn't believe in her and then she starts believing in Tinkerbell as well and revieves Tinkerbell!
Wart from the Sword in the Stone was played by three boys. It made so much sense. I was always so confused when I was younger why Wart sounded like a prepubescent boy one second and a teenager with an enlarging adams apple the next then back to the prepubescent boy.
What is the white screen? Btw how was that Walt represented as Merlin and Madam Mim was represented as the critics? I don't understand that. Could someone explain that to me please?
in my view, the sword in the stone is sort of like the emperor's new groove of the '60s, a flick whose story is just an addition to comedy rather than the other way around
With disney making these movies about dogs, like "Lady and the Tramp", "101 dalmatians", "Old Yeller", and "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", I think that they should make a movie about Rin Tin Tin, or Lassie.
Here's some pretty sad trivia, thanks to the film 101 Dalmatians, people automatically though that when they got a dalmatian puppy it would be just like the dogs in the movie. Unfortunately that was not the case, in fact there was a lot of puppy mill type breeding involved to meet the demand and it resorted to many faulty genetic conditions such as deafness.
@cheneeamoi93 which I would I would personally describe as immortalizing childhood innocence by stretching it into adulthood, and I would find that a somehow possible solution to those complaints I've recently noticed about children growing up too fast.
Also that when the lost boys wanted to live with Wendy, Peter drew down a line and said if they cross the line, they would be banished from Neverland forever and never to come back if they grow up. And Wendy had enough of Peter's pompousness and stubbornness that she began scolding him for being a deceitful, selfish, conceited jerk.
In Walt's original plan for Peter Pan, apparently Tinkerbell was supposed to drink the poisoned medicine and die like in the story, and would come back to life later with the chanting of "I believe in fairies". Thats another way the film was going to be darker at first.
With dog films, I have an idea. A movie that has a theme of over coming prejudice. The main characters would be three of the most dangerous dogs. The doberman, the rottweiler, and the pitbull.
@ElectricDragon505 Well, as you say in the annotiation Tink get poisoned. She gets poisoned in the actuall story (if I'm not wrong). But she comes to life like you said, but that's not really dark, I think. Maybe there was an even darker ending, who knows...?
The Lady and The Tramp wasn't 100 % original by Disney, it was based on the novel Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog by Ward Greene. It was The Lion King that was the Disney Studio's first original story (with some inspirations from Bambi, MacBeth and Egyptian Mythology, and NO, it wasn't a rip-off of Kimba the White Lion anime, it was purley conscidical, so get over it already, Disney conspirators!!!).
As embarassing as it is to say it, but even I like 2 find that out. Everywhere I look it only sais it had a darker ending and that's it! No other details. But I also heard that the entire film itself was suppose to be more darker. I'm sorry that I didn't say what is that ending, but if anyone actually knows what is the darker ending of Peter Pan, please let me know and I'll add it as an annotation.
Bill Peet (Walt's best storyman, bar none) did the story for both "101 Dalmatians" and "Sword and the Stone" ALL BY HIMSELF! An average Disney movie at the time had about 8 storymen.
Lady and the Tramp was loosely based on a book by Ward Greene, I believe The Lion King was the first fully original Disney movie (although even that is debated).
Hey! When you were talking about 101 Dalmatians, you mentioned the live action remake and the sequel, but why didn't you make any mention of the TV series? You mentioned all the other Disney TV spin-offs, so why not that one too? Was it just not popular enough to be mentioned? Com on, I LOVE THAT SERIES!!!
Oops! I forgot from Lady and the Tramp: Verna Felton: Aunt Sarah Full Voice Cast: Sleeping Beauty Mary Costa: Princess Aurora - Bill Shirley: Prince Phillip- Barbara Luddy: Merriweather - Verna Felton: Flora - Barbara Jo Allen - Eleanor Audeley: Maleficent - Taylor Holmes: King Stefan - Janet Waldo?: Queen Leah, Multiple Females - Bill Thompson: King Hubert - Dallas McKennon: An Owl, Multiple Guards, Multiple Males - Pinto Colvig: Multiple Guards, Multiple Males - Candy Candido: The Leading Guard Full Voice Cast: One Hundred and One Dalmatians Rod Taylor: Pongo - Cate Bauer: Perdita - Multiple Children: Multiple Puppies - Barbara Luddy: Multiple Puppies, Multiple Females - Ben Wright: Roger Radcliffe - Lisa Davis: Anita Radcliffe - Betty Lou Gerson: Cruella DeVill - J Pat O'Malley: Jasper, Colonel, Multiple Males - Frederick Worlock: Horace Badun - Martha Wentworth: Nanny, Multiple Females - David Frankham: Sgt. Originally, Hans Conried was supposed to voice King Stefan as he did model and audition him but Taylor Holmes was the final choice. Felton was believed to have voiced Queen Leah but her voice remains unknown.
Peter Pan. I never knew that was Micheal Jackson favorite movie. Lady and the Tramp. Wasn't that laugh in Elf as well, you know when he was testing the Jack in the boxes. Sleeping Beauty. I think out of the first 3 princess films, this one's my favorite. 101 Dalmatians. I wonder who the guy was who counted all those spots. Sword in the stone. That's one of my older bother's favorite Disney films.
1:12 "...a red-haired mermaid--NO, NOT THAT ONE--IN THE FILM!" LOL
Rip ear phone users
Collins Crapo that part startaled me
Collins Crapo You stole my idea!
Lol
1:12...a red hair mermaid-NO, NOT THAT ONE-IN THE FILM!'' lol
6:48 I grew up listening to a 7-inch story record of "101 Dalmatians" that centered on Lucky (one of the original 15 puppies) & his futile attempts to become a TV star. Cruella de Vil, her minions & the other 84 puppies were nowhere mentioned on the story side of the record, although the B-side did have the songs "Cruella de Vil" & "101 Dalmatians."
they made that into a sequel
@realar Your grampa did the hyena laugh (pretty much the voice of Ripper Roo) and did extra parts on other Disney films? That is AWESOME!!!
The Heina Laugh was then later used on Elf with the jack in the box😂😂😂
I laughed at that part.
8:22 dont forget that Peg and teh Bull Dog from the Pound were in this scene too
I like to think of Jim Dear and Darling as Walt and his wife. :)
(even though he's called Jim just let me be happy with my head canon)
What I like most about Lady and the Tramp are the characters and how well the voices matched them. Like Barbara Luddy was a wonderful Lady and Alan Reed was an irresistable Boris.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never even knew that Chuck Jones the Chuck Jones worked at Disney for a short time😲.
I LOVED Sword in the Stone....its was one of my favorites as a child. Great animation, great songs and fantastic characters!
THAT MICHAEL JACKSON LIKING PETER PAN FROM DISNEY FACT JUST BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!!!:O
Dumbo was actually a very little known children's book/scroll but it's out of print, even back then and very rare to find. Walt Disney found it on book shelf and decided to use it.
I ALMOST DIED LAUGHTING AT 01:13
Great job, I love to learn more about these things, especially because I love disney
Nice one! This part include some of my favourite Disney classics, like my two favourite of all time is 101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan.
Ariel was voiced by Jodi Benson
3:50 they didn’t keep the sound clip in the N-Sane Trilogy though
6:28 isn't it suppose to be cinderella's castle?
3:06 I wonder if that inspired that Lady and the Tramp short in a Simpsons episode I remember seeing? As for Sleeping Beauty, it was unfortunately one of the very few Disney films I didn't own a VHS copy of as a kid. @6:12 Sleeping Beauty’s 1959 $6 million budget is equal to $52,864,742.27 today.
on your annotation
the original play had Tinkerbell poisoned and had the audience clap to revive her. Understand that Peter Pan was the very first play specifically written for children, and the audience participation was to involve the children in the play itself.
I can actually see why this was dropped from the film in the first place
Seriously in my opinion the evil queen is the best Disney villain ever created by Walt Disney I ❤️ this Disney villain
8:16 to 8:18
Good eye, very good actually.
I hate Jane, she's such a b****
Did you know that Bambi wasn't an original film because Bambi was based off of a novel? Where him and his mate are actually cousins xD? But they end up together anyways.
SolarMotionStudios ya another youtuber said that is was based if of Bambi a life in the forest but it was too grim
the designer for sword in the stone was bill peet
Are you gonna do a history of video games?
Thank you
What is the white screen? Btw how was that Walt represented as Merlin and Madam Mim was represented as the critics? I don't understand that. Could someone explain that to me please?
kkstar 12 white screen is the old term for widescreen
Good to hear "The Sword in the Stone" was such a hit, because it's still one of my favorites Disney films, Top 5 easily! :-)
1:59 well isn't it obvious? It's because... It's because... There's a Star in it?
Awesome!! I didn't know that people thought that Merlin was Walt Disney and the witch represented the critics.
in my view, the sword in the stone is sort of like the emperor's new groove of the '60s, a flick whose story is just an addition to comedy rather than the other way around
Another dark part left out of peter pan was that originally hook is able to convert the lost boys to his side
Is it just me or the Baby in "Lady and the Tramp", looks like Michael Darling in Peter Pan?
I notice the similarity also. And Darling looks like Wendy. It was common for Disney to recycle some animation from one film to the next.
7:10 to 7:22
Make sense.
hey, animat, aurora's prince was the first disney prince to be given a name. It was phillip.
Maleficent is most scary yet awesome villian ever! She's probably one the most worth enemy ever having
lol tht part wen u said NO NOT THAT ONE
scared the shit outa me lol
The sword in the stone is by far the funniest classic Disney films
Cruella is actually an heiress in the animated version. She's a fashion designer in the 1996 live action movie.
and both in the animated series
With disney making these movies about dogs, like "Lady and the Tramp", "101 dalmatians", "Old Yeller", and "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", I think that they should make a movie about Rin Tin Tin, or Lassie.
Did you call the spaghetti scene INFAMOUS?!?! It's the exact opposite. Anybody would think of that scene when you ask them about the movie.
1:12 HAHAHAHA!!!! Dude u scared the shit out of me when u said that, lol
Peter Pan is in many ways my favorite Disney movie! I grew up with that movie! :)
@realar ok, and that's AWESOME!! =D you must be very proud of your grandpa for being well known and everything. :)
@ElectricDragon505 I believe that Nana died because in the 2nd peter pan movie that features Jane, Jane calls her Nana 2.
6,469,952 spots. You can never count that high.
6:58 NIGHTMARE FUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!
@cheneeamoi93 which I would I would personally describe as immortalizing childhood innocence by stretching it into adulthood, and I would find that a somehow possible solution to those complaints I've recently noticed about children growing up too fast.
I can't believe The Sword In The Stone was Disney's first misfire.
Also that when the lost boys wanted to live with Wendy, Peter drew down a line and said if they cross the line, they would be banished from Neverland forever and never to come back if they grow up. And Wendy had enough of Peter's pompousness and stubbornness that she began scolding him for being a deceitful, selfish, conceited jerk.
um peg and the bulldog from lady and the tramp were in there as well

Oh my gosh! I can't believe I never noticed that the hyena's laugh is the same as ripper roo's :O
both peter pan and lady and the tramp are the only 2 old disney movies where the parents are alive.
i forgot about that, thanks!
I lost it at 1:14. You sir, are a riot.
lol 101 dalmatians has to be my all time fave classic disney movie XD
Hey, Animat, did you know that Walt played Peter Pan in a play when he was 9?
I think I might have heard of this before or maybe not
Djafar Gaming oh geez this is old but yeah I read it in a biography about him when I was doing a report on him in like...fourth or sixth grade.
Damn, you’re right, that comment is old, and cool
@ElectricDragon505 Well, as you say in the annotiation Tink get poisoned. She gets poisoned in the actuall story (if I'm not wrong). But she comes to life like you said, but that's not really dark, I think. Maybe there was an even darker ending, who knows...?

Mats Berglinn no it was not. It was based off of Hamlet
@bmu7082 Yeah, it's like saying, "No Ariel! It's not your turn yet!"
It's lucky Disney didn't follow the original story of Sleeping beauty Too much. Would have probably hurt the box office
Yeah, otherwise it would've been a 💣
I wish they still did animated filmd
As embarassing as it is to say it, but even I like 2 find that out. Everywhere I look it only sais it had a darker ending and that's it! No other details. Why was the dots fact not mentioned in the remake? Has it been disproven?
7:20 "DalmaTIONS," LOL
7:30 to 7:45
That's good! =D
Lady and the Tramp was loosely based on a book by Ward Greene, I believe The Lion King was the first fully original Disney movie (although even that is debated).
Chuck Jones worked for a short time on Sleeping Beauty? No Way! My Mabel the Martian as Sleeping Beauty is sure to tribute that!
There was a series based off the 101 dalmatians movie
That's true....
AND IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!!
he's talking about the films in the disney animated canon
I guess people claimed that Marilyn Monroe was the live action model for Tinkerbell because of how iconic Monroe was like Tink herself.

Who voice Fauna?
Originally, Hans Conried was supposed to voice King Stefan as he did model and audition him but Taylor Holmes was the final choice. Felton was believed to have voiced Queen Leah but her voice remains unknown.
Hey wasn't the hyena laugh used for the jack-in-the-boxes in the film Elf (soon to be reviewed by yours truly)?
1:10 who also voiced a red haired mermaid... NO NOT THAT ONE!!!!! hahaha made me rofl
What was the darker ending? Peter sets on fire or the captain or just how did it happen to be planned
Walt s home town is Chicago
what is the bathor award for something (the price to 101 Dalmatians)?
Woot! Kingdom Keepers!
lady and the Tramp MUST become a KH world that would be awesome and it's the 1st ORIGINAL disney move so that's awesome
i love the kingdom keeppers
What was so dark about the alternate ending of peter pan? I'm very curious now.
What about sleeping beauty, Mulan, Hercules, Tangled, 101 Dalmaitians?
@realar that's awesome. i hope it becomes well known. :)
If Lady and the Tramp was the first original Disney movie, then what was Dumbo based on?
@ 1:13, I almost had a heart attack!
@ 1:48, that's probably why MJ had peter pan syndrome.
