  • Hi everyone!
I spoke with Will, a first year Clinical Immunology STP based in the lab in Southampton - quite a jump from Newcastle! Immunology encompasses a lot more than I expected, not just allergy/autoimmunity referrals but also helping with things like diagnosing leukaemia. This specialty is definitely more lab based but also feels more integrated with the departments you do rotations in than others. It’s also quite a small speciality, so you’re closer with the other trainees across the country but there might not be others with you/in the trust. He’s currently doing a bit more of the things normally covered in the end of 1st year/2nd year of training due to the pandemic, so that all sounds really exciting! Thank you for watching 🌟
Stay safe and let me know what you think!
    Meg

Hi, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to reply - it's been super busy this year! I would start by reading up around it/joining webinars etc. online to get more info; going on linkedin maybe to ask some of the current clinical immunology trainees what they get up to and their background :)

search for immunology lab guides released by nhs labs. Im applying for histocompatibility and found manchesters guide that was very comprehensive and gave me a great place to start.
