I know this is a fairly old video now, but I just wanted to say I'm really looking forward to working my way through the rest of this playlist and enjoying future videos. Finished watching your solo playthrough of Forbidden Lands and loved it. Keep up the great work! :)
Thanks! This turned out to be a short first season for TOR solo, but I'll return to it. As it stands, I'll be returning to season 2 my FBL solo campaign very soon.
Glad to see the start of your campaign. I rolled the benevolent being event outside of Rivendell and decided my Dwarf met Arwen on the road as he travelled. I feel that this RPG does a better job of bringing characters from the IP into your game than any other I've played.
Cool, I think Rivendell would be a lot easier to come up with a benevolent being, as the place is full of them! Sarn Ford is a bit out of the way. I'm thinking Gandalf or a Ranger.
Really enjoyed watching this series of Strider mode TOR adventures as I'm preparing to run two Tolkien-fan friends in their first RP experience in co-operative play whilst I act as LM. Not enough characters for a proper Company but different to solo. Your series helped me understand the differences between 1e and 2e as well as the differences between normal and Strider mode - plus enjoyed the narrative! Thanks so much.
New to Strider format. Interesting to watch. Actually new to TOR, still learning the rules for Loremastering. Watching stuff like this helps. Also never seen Foundry before - very interesting. Thanks!
Good to watch how another plays TOR solo. I think it's a wonderful system, and the best TTRPG I've played, very faithful to Tolkien. I've been playing a young Aragorn campaign, and loving every minute
Loving this so far. You rolled a veteran warrior hanging about Bree and I ALMOST thought you were going to meet and hire THE Strider, a younger Aragorn! Your sessions have been fantastic and I definitely plan on trying my hand at this solo mode sometime soon. Looking forward to your next video.
What do you think of this first episode? And any suggestions on who the "benevolent being" might be??? Buy Strider Mode for $4.99 here: www.drivethrurpg.com/product/396291?affiliate_id=355922
Thanks for the video. Excellent work. I'll be following along. I am just now learning Strider mode, because I had to wait for the retail release. I'll be starting my solo game after getting the various systems (combat, fellowship, etc.) down. I have the Journey part down, and have run some test Journeys. What fun!
Haha! That's hilarious. Any time I play a dwarf character, I've always named them Borin. World of Warcraft, Pathfinder, DnD. It's like I've joined you on your quest! LOL
did you use the pre written adventures from the core book ? Coul I use one of those? this is mi first experience playing role games.. and it is a solo experience hehe
Great start to the series! I can't wait to start my own Strider Mode campaign. One quick question: When you were creating your Lore Table did you separate the sections in your spreadsheet? Or did you take all of, let's say, the Actions and combine all 72 in a table without separating them by Feat die roll? Does that make sense?
It does make sense! There are 3 tables of 72 entries each. I put the Eye of Sauron results at the very bottom and the Gandalf Rune results at the very top to represent rolling low or high. IMHO, there's really not much point in the extra work involved with splitting the tables out for the macro.
@@3Skulls Ah, perfect! Thank you so much for these macros. Now I just have to figure out how to create a nested table for the journey events (I'm so terrible at excel LOL).
Very fun! You’ve inspired me to give Strider more a whirl (though probably the old school pen and paper route). Growing up in the boonies, I spent many hours playing old solo games like Steve Jackson’s Sorcery!, Barbarian Prince and Star Smuggler. Thoughts on your encounter: this close to the Shire, it wouldn’t be unheard of to find Bilbo out on a ramble - could be fun to trade stories of your mutual friend Balin. Gandalf is always keeping an eye on the Shire. And of course one of the Dunedain could be paroling - perhaps they know something about the bandits you seek, but have more pressing matters elsewhere.
Thanks for the comment! All of those options crossed my mind, but I went with something different. Episode will be going live on about 4 hours, so you won't have to wait long to find out who! 😉
It's been a while since I set up this game, but I think there are maps in the PDFs you get from the digital copy of the game. I then ripped them to WEBP.
I like the companion rules. Nice and simple and fast to resolve in combat. I am starting to play soon with 2 players in the main game would you recommend using these companion rules in the main game?
2 players will probably be competent enough for easy to average encounters , but would struggle ageist stronger adversaries, so an extra companion certainly wouldn't hurt!
First of all congratulations for the channel and the content. There are two types of people who might want to watch the videos, but they fall into two types of situations that I'm a part of. The first are people who have some kind of deafness or total deafness and automatic subtitles do not translate correctly. The other group of people are people who don't speak or understand English, but if you have a faithful subtitle available, automatic translation works very well for another language. If it's not too much to ask, would it be possible to provide English subtitles for the videos? Regardless of everything, thank you once again for everything and may it continue for a long time.
Thanks very much for the suggestion! I'll bear this in mind when I get more time available. But for the moment the automatic subtitles will have to do, as I don't have the capacity to devote to transcribing my content.
@@3Skulls I understand perfectly, my suggestion was more due to the high quality of content production. I still need to improve my English more, but I hope to be ready soon and one of my projects is to provide this kind of accessibility. Thank you very much and I will continue to follow the channel.
You don’t see anyone. But you hear the most beautiful laughter… a young girls from the water. Maybe catch a glimpse of golden hair. You’ve m met a river daughter (like Goldberry Tom’s wife)…but in this case young and playful..
@@3Skulls I know this is an old video, just bought The One Ring and looking for playthru videos. I was going to suggest Tom Bombadil, you are just south of the Old Forest, so maybe he's out walking along the river bank as you cut across? Or Goldberry as mentioned.

Thanks! I went with the "great axe" prompt. In solo play, I grab anything I can for inspiration! Maybe Aragon could be the benevolent being?
Just about to start my own. My character is a ranger named Eradan meaning "single man" which is a humorous nod to playing a game like this alone 😂
Haha, cool! Where will you be starting?
@@3Skulls pretty similar to yours. Safe haven is Bree. Gonna explore around there. Patron is Gilraen because I am playing as a Ranger so it fit

So glad I found your page. Thanks for the house rules also!
At 35:19 you should have rolled Awareness with +1 die, because if the event happens along a road, the
Player-hero gains (1d).
Indeed, keep forgetting about the road bonuses, also in playtesting. Thanks for the reminder!

Such a borin name
🥁
@@3Skulls Yeah I believe I initially found the name in the appendix of LOTR.

Aw yiss.

Hmm, intriguing idea, but why would Radagast be so far from Rhosgobel?
