a bit of lore here : Gwyn wasnt on his prime, he was a mere Hollow. a shadow of his former self. since the flame used his soul and body as kindling to continue burning, thats what being lord of cinder meant. so he basically sacrificed himself to keep the flame burning since he was scared of dark so much. his song the famed "plin plin plon" has no dark notes and done with light keys only that how afraid of dark he was. btw great job man i loved this journey hope u do well on ds2

The debuff camel meat put on you is the same one the ring he dropped gives. It causes you to receive double damage. Also, Solaire is the only summon for Gwyn's boss fight, but you have to save him from the sunlight maggot before it gets on his head. If you do decide to replay the game so you can save Solaire, at least make a compilation video of that so we can experience it with you, at least a little. I have loved this series, thank you for sharing it with us.
Ya know it's funny that you mentioned the final boss was underwhelming, cause that was the way gwyn was meant to be. You literally just fought a HUSK of gwyn, he went hollow himself after trying to keep the flame going. The lord of sunlight, reduced to a crazed hollow. Combine that with the somber music in the background and it really set it up nicely.
Bass, need to tell you about a couple of spoilers cause this is the last episode. You missed the puppy Sif in the DLC, you could have saved her and she would have helped you fight Manus (Manus' tail can't be cut). You forgot to cut Kalameet's tail. Also, the giant, Gough the Hawkeye (who is blind, as you saw how he felt for his bow to grab it) was one of Gwyn's four knights and best friends with the giant blacksmith in Anor Londo. The reason it said "Praise the sun!' before the final boss is because that's the spot you could have summoned Solaire if he was alive to fight Gwyn.
I cut Kalameet's tail by absolute accident when I fought him. Fired a soul spear at his head but he turned in just the right way and it hit him right on the base of his tail instead, I was baffled. I honestly didn't even think he could be tail cut, I imagine that has got to be really hard for a pure melee build
One more for the algorithm... plenty will say it's always great seeing new people experience these games and there's truth in that, but it comes down to the person in question. The game is great, but your personality and enthusiasm made this series great. Looking forward to seeing more from you, may we forever praise the sun!
Can relate to the title. Dark Souls ruined me, as in if it isn’t Souls or a quality “Souls like” I just get bored way too easily. Replays of the 3 Souls titles + Elden Ring with the occasional Nioh and Lords Of the Fallen 2 have been my gaming staples. Great video series by the way. One of the most enjoyable playthroughs I’ve seen 👍

You can save solaire, you need to join the chaos servants, give the fair lady 30 humanity then you can open the shortcut to the bed of chaos. Then you can kill the chaos bug before it gets him.
One thing I really like DS1 is that when you kill the last of non respawning enemies, it is guaranteed to drop it's rare drops if you didn't get them yet
Hey Bass so you have met the four knights of Gwyn, Dragonslayer Ornstein, Abyss walker Artorias, the lord's blade Ciaran who was the woman who gave you the dark silver tracer and Gold tracer and Hawkeye Gough. Ciaran is there at Artorias' gravesite as in the lore she loves Artorias and Hawkeye Gough is actually blind
Pling pling plong... so you decided to link the fire. You could have walked away to start an age of darkness. The Black Knights at Gwyn are the only ones respawning, so there you could farm for their weapons and shield. If you finish Solaires quest in a way that he survives you can summon him for one epic last jolly cooperation against Gwyn. Also, if you follow the cat trough an illusionary wall you would have found young Sif, as a little puppy, bound by magic. Rescue him and he will be a summon against Manus.
Oh, here is one more thing I also want to try in NG+: You can reach the 4 Kings before Frampt (everyones favourite sock puppet) appear. If you kill them, in that very room another sock puppet appears. While Frampt wants you to uphold the flame, that other guy clearly wants you to start an age of darkness and let the flame die. Frampt also won't teleport you to the room with the door to Gwyn. You have to talk to the other guy in the 4 Kings Boss room.
So excited to see you finish DS1! I had started my playthrough the same week the first video popped up in my recommended list. DS2 is so good imho, and I can't wait to see that. I can't recommend the Lighting Engine mod enough though. it makes the game look incredible.
By far, by faaaar, your reactions made the series wonderful to watch. The part in Anor Londo where the knights kept pushing you off and you going "GOD IN HEAVENNNN", or the fight with Camel Meat, those were the highlights for me. Along with the "TAKE IT!" part. Bro the kalameet (camel meat) fight was soo funny I love your commentry and this was an amazing gameplay of ds 1 waiting for ds 2 you're gonna love it.
I haven't seen a single person do this, although speedrunners use some other trick to survive Kalameets flame, but you can take a good shield like blue shield with a dragon on it or BK shield and and stand in the end opposite of where Kalameet flies from. You will block the first tick of damage but second one will damage you, but you will survive. And in this corner flames only hit you twice so

However, in the section that talks about the Covenants.. there is this bit about Alvina of the Darkroot Wood (the talking cat): "When you join, she'll give you the Cat Covenant ring. The ring is for multiplayer and allows Alvina to summon you when other players enter her area. This can be advantageous to you if you wish to battle other players for treasure. For the summoning to work, you must be online, a member of her covenant, and you must have the ring equipped. As a member of her Covenant, you are not ever allowed to attack or kill other members (that includes the big NPC cats in the woods). If you do, even once, you'll be kicked out of the Covenant and marked as a traitor to be hunted down by other Covenant members. Further, Alvina herself CANNOT be killed, and attacking her just once, will break the Covenant, mark you as a traitor, and cause Alvina to disappear. So, if you join the Covenant online, be careful about who you attack!"
Also bass if you remember during the introduction of the game where the narrator talked about the Furtive pygmy who got that great soul or something? Manus is that furtive pygmy
That spectral cat is Alvina, the one you can find in the darkroot garden in the future. If you follow the cat, you'll be led to a wall (you get sidetracked into an elevator in this playthrough). If you hit the wall, you'll reveal a hidden path with some humanity ghosts inside, attacking Grey Wolf Sif (Artoria's pet that you killed later in the future). Upon reaching Sif after defeating the Humanity Ghosts, Sif will vanish and leave behind Artorias' shield. Later on, Sif can be summoned during the battle against Manus, Father of the Abyss, after being rescued by the player In addition, if you complete the DLC before killing Great Grey Wolf Sif (which you need to defeat in order to get ring that allows you to traverse abyss to kill Four Kings), upon reaching Artorias' grave in the future and meeting Sif, a different cutscene will play where Sif would recognize you and let out a whimper. Your character reaches out to pet him, but Sif pulls away and howls mournfully before sadly picking up Artorias' greatsword. The fight will then continue as normal after this point (although doing so also makes it far more tragic) Also, upon defeating Gwyn, you actually have a choice for different ending. Igniting the bonfire at the center of the area will trigger sacrifice ending (you sacrifice yourself and take Gwyn's place to keep the age of fire going a little longer), or you can walk out of the area, triggering dark lord ending (you let the age of fire die and ushered in the new age of darkness)
Dark Souls 1 is by far my favorite Dark Souls, probably because it was my first Souls-like game... It was quite a nice playthrough, if you ever replay it, try doing the quests you missed and the second ending. I am looking forward to seeing you on Dark Souls 2 \o

@@BassPlays902Keep in mind as you play it that theres a lot of new mechanics. It made it feel different & confusing to people which made a lot of ppl not like it as much as they could have. Hope you arent completely ignoring Adaptability lmao. In some ways it's like Elden Ring 0.5.
So you can find an injured Sif behind an illusory wall in the chasm, and after you find him, you can summon him for the Manus fight. Also, there's an amulet you can find up above in the Oolacile Township that you can use to give yourself a little temporary shield against Manus's projectile attacks. But yeah, been neat watching the whole journey of this series. Dark Souls 2 should be neat too.
Yes, Gwyn might be a lil bit underwhelming, tho he's not in his prime and already hollowed. But, i like to believe Gwyn's battle was the way it is because it want to make you feel you already git gud, and how far we go compare to when you were a little hollow who easily get rekt by a bunch of lowly undead
who's gonna tell him he could cut off kalameet's tail? also ngl you should explore more and try talking to npcs more often, after you defeat kalameet and talk to gough he actually gives you his bow for defeating the Dragon but you didn't talk to him twice, also every npc in the dlc you could kill would drop you their armour this includes also gough, the lady praying on artorias' grave and "mr Bloodborne" lmao

When you said dark souls got you to 4K I was actually kinda shocked, you're really funny and you're videos are fairly high quality, I legitimately forgot that you weren't a bigger youtuber. Gwyn can't only just be staggered, he can be parried too. He isn't meant to be a final challenge, he's meant to evoke the idea of an age past, he's given up his own essence and become a hollow. A powerful hollow, but still hollow. Congrats on completing it! I know it's not always the most fun to play through, this was where a lot of the conventions began and built from. Demon's Souls on the PS3 was the official first, but Dark Souls became what everyone really latched onto and without it we wouldn't have gotten anything like Bloodborne, Sekiro or Elden Ring. If it's onward to Dark Souls 2, it'll be... entertaining. I do wish you luck and I hope you have some fun with it.
Two things I liked that u would have noticed was that , the giant was blind and he no scoped the drag, and I wanted you to at least notice the Gwyn music 😭😭😭 , please listed to that again, believe me that you'll need it and thank me for it
Here's hoping Dark Souls 2 doesn't give you a lot of trouble. That one was a bit more of a challenge to get through, but once you lock in to what you want to do in it it becomes a little easier. Also, there's special crowns in the game that not only give you special stat boosts or regenerative health/spells, but there's an easily missable cutscene where you empower the crowns and it'll empower your character in such a way that you won't have to worry about the negative effects brought about by hollowification in that game.
Love it when people are too stingy to spend 5 souls each on Gough's carvings. 😂 If you kill him (😭), his helmet's description strongly suggest that he's not really blind, and the people of Oolacile just put resin in the eyeholes of his helmet so he thinks he is blind. Anyway, there's some really deep lore as well if you fight the Four Kings before you let Frampt take you to the altar (or you bone out without placing the Lordvessel; that works too). This deep lore also explains the "toothy serpent" line from Chester.
You don't really burn eternally. You just burn for a few years and the undead curse appear again, world went to mayhem, and someone else need to link the fire by killing the former lord of cinder which in this case is you

While everyone is talking about Hawkeye and Gwyn I would like to point out something about Artorias now that Manus is dead and you even stopped the spreading of the Abyss. That legendary Knight Artorias who allegedly stopped the Abyss was already far gone and consumed by the darkness when you met him so the real Artorias was us, the players, all along! If you do Solaire's questline and save him you can summon him against Gwyn! Also, hope Major_Macaroni has a good run in Skylines. I love that game! :)

I've always said there's only pre dark souls and post dark souls gamers and you have to play to understand. Og ds1 is the first one i played in 2017 and it changed the way i enjoy games. Dark souls is the only game id give up my memories to play for the first time again
Well well, you were much quicker than I thought. I'm still needing to kill Kalameet and Gwyn. Well I guess I went to farm a lot of Clams for Twinkies (titanite). So, while I wanted a more Dex focused playthrough, I had to realize that on these bosses, you just gotta HIT 'EM WITH IT! I went full Giant armor, Zweihander and Artorias was no trouble at all. Even tanked his buffed hits, crazy. And I managed to kill Manus on second try. I guess I got lucky but he didn't stagger me too much. Maybe Wolf Ring +40 Poise helps. Anywho, I went down to 4 Kings too and ate them. Quelaag Furysword fire damage is really OP against them. But that Kalameet man, I gotta go light or he eats me... BTW I think you missed one boss. The Fire Drake on the bridge. Or I don't remember you killing that. Also a bitch ass boss that one.
Artorias, Gough, Ciaran, and Ornstein are Gwyn's four highest Knights. You meet all 4 of them in this game but maybe the Dragon Slayer Ornstein you meet at Anor Londo is not the real one. You will find out in later games. Anyway, congrats, you have done the game, even though you did fall to the dark side by using Havel and Black Knight Halberd 😆

For me Bloodborn and the first Dark souls became my comfort places. They ruin gaming outside of their structure 😂

If you hit the wall, you'll reveal a hidden path with some humanity ghosts inside, attacking Grey Wolf Sif (Artoria's pet that you killed later in the future). Upon reaching Sif after defeating the Humanity Ghosts, Sif will vanish and leave behind Artorias' shield. Later on, Sif can be summoned during the battle against Manus, Father of the Abyss, after being rescued by the player
In addition, if you complete the DLC before killing Great Grey Wolf Sif (which you need to defeat in order to get ring that allows you to traverse abyss to kill Four Kings), upon reaching Artorias' grave in the future and meeting Sif, a different cutscene will play where Sif would recognize you and let out a whimper. Your character reaches out to pet him, but Sif pulls away and howls mournfully before sadly picking up Artorias' greatsword. The fight will then continue as normal after this point (although doing so also makes it far more tragic)
Also, upon defeating Gwyn, you actually have a choice for different ending. Igniting the bonfire at the center of the area will trigger sacrifice ending (you sacrifice yourself and take Gwyn's place to keep the age of fire going a little longer), or you can walk out of the area, triggering dark lord ending (you let the age of fire die and ushered in the new age of darkness)
Dark Souls 1 is by far my favorite Dark Souls, probably because it was my first Souls-like game...
It was quite a nice playthrough, if you ever replay it, try doing the quests you missed and the second ending.

So you can find an injured Sif behind an illusory wall in the chasm, and after you find him, you can summon him for the Manus fight. Also, there's an amulet you can find up above in the Oolacile Township that you can use to give yourself a little temporary shield against Manus's projectile attacks.
But yeah, been neat watching the whole journey of this series. Dark Souls 2 should be neat too.
Yes, Gwyn might be a lil bit underwhelming, tho he's not in his prime and already hollowed. But, i like to believe Gwyn's battle was the way it is because it want to make you feel you already git gud, and how far we go compare to when you were a little hollow who easily get rekt by a bunch of lowly undead
You can buy boss armor from Domnhall BTW. He moves to Firelink after you talk to him in the depths
who's gonna tell him he could cut off kalameet's tail? also ngl you should explore more and try talking to npcs more often, after you defeat kalameet and talk to gough he actually gives you his bow for defeating the Dragon but you didn't talk to him twice, also every npc in the dlc you could kill would drop you their armour this includes also gough, the lady praying on artorias' grave and "mr Bloodborne" lmao

Gwyn can't only just be staggered, he can be parried too. He isn't meant to be a final challenge, he's meant to evoke the idea of an age past, he's given up his own essence and become a hollow. A powerful hollow, but still hollow.
Congrats on completing it! I know it's not always the most fun to play through, this was where a lot of the conventions began and built from. Demon's Souls on the PS3 was the official first, but Dark Souls became what everyone really latched onto and without it we wouldn't have gotten anything like Bloodborne, Sekiro or Elden Ring.
If it's onward to Dark Souls 2, it'll be... entertaining. I do wish you luck and I hope you have some fun with it.

Two things I liked that u would have noticed was that , the giant was blind and he no scoped the drag, and I wanted you to at least notice the Gwyn music 😭😭😭 , please listed to that again, believe me that you'll need it and thank me for it
Here's hoping Dark Souls 2 doesn't give you a lot of trouble. That one was a bit more of a challenge to get through, but once you lock in to what you want to do in it it becomes a little easier. Also, there's special crowns in the game that not only give you special stat boosts or regenerative health/spells, but there's an easily missable cutscene where you empower the crowns and it'll empower your character in such a way that you won't have to worry about the negative effects brought about by hollowification in that game.

Love it when people are too stingy to spend 5 souls each on Gough's carvings. 😂 If you kill him (😭), his helmet's description strongly suggest that he's not really blind, and the people of Oolacile just put resin in the eyeholes of his helmet so he thinks he is blind.
Anyway, there's some really deep lore as well if you fight the Four Kings before you let Frampt take you to the altar (or you bone out without placing the Lordvessel; that works too). This deep lore also explains the "toothy serpent" line from Chester.
You don't really burn eternally. You just burn for a few years and the undead curse appear again, world went to mayhem, and someone else need to link the fire by killing the former lord of cinder which in this case is you

While everyone is talking about Hawkeye and Gwyn I would like to point out something about Artorias now that Manus is dead and you even stopped the spreading of the Abyss. That legendary Knight Artorias who allegedly stopped the Abyss was already far gone and consumed by the darkness when you met him so the real Artorias was us, the players, all along!
If you do Solaire's questline and save him you can summon him against Gwyn!
Also, hope Major_Macaroni has a good run in Skylines. I love that game! :)

I've always said there's only pre dark souls and post dark souls gamers and you have to play to understand. Og ds1 is the first one i played in 2017 and it changed the way i enjoy games. Dark souls is the only game id give up my memories to play for the first time again

Gwyn is supposed to be a husk of his former self. He was once a god but is now a husk due to his desperation for keeping the flame lit.
Well well, you were much quicker than I thought. I'm still needing to kill Kalameet and Gwyn. Well I guess I went to farm a lot of Clams for Twinkies (titanite).
So, while I wanted a more Dex focused playthrough, I had to realize that on these bosses, you just gotta HIT 'EM WITH IT! I went full Giant armor, Zweihander and Artorias was no trouble at all. Even tanked his buffed hits, crazy. And I managed to kill Manus on second try. I guess I got lucky but he didn't stagger me too much. Maybe Wolf Ring +40 Poise helps. Anywho, I went down to 4 Kings too and ate them. Quelaag Furysword fire damage is really OP against them.
But that Kalameet man, I gotta go light or he eats me...
BTW I think you missed one boss. The Fire Drake on the bridge. Or I don't remember you killing that. Also a bitch ass boss that one.
Artorias, Gough, Ciaran, and Ornstein are Gwyn's four highest Knights. You meet all 4 of them in this game but maybe the Dragon Slayer Ornstein you meet at Anor Londo is not the real one. You will find out in later games. Anyway, congrats, you have done the game, even though you did fall to the dark side by using Havel and Black Knight Halberd 😆
