Thank you for travelling with TIB1234T, Have a nice day!
this route is like how to say
inefficient but necessary 😂
178: Industrial
187: Residential
Even though 178 has been the oldest bus link between Woodlands and Jurong/Boon Lay, it always gets overshadowed by another route that has other perks despite sharing the same destinations.
Although the old 951 operated out of Marsiling Terminal, it offered a much faster route to Boon Lay from Woodlands by taking a direct route via BKE, Bukit Batok Road, and Boon Lay Way. 951 would be shortened to Bukit Panjang and renumbered to 180, whereas 187 would be extended to Woodlands via the BKE to replace this lost link and avoid duplication with the NSL. Even though both routes serve residential areas, 187 gets preferential treatment due to its better routing around Bukit Gombak and Jurong East/West Avenue 1. Although 178 has its patronage, it's hard to justify deploying high capacity buses on this route when there are better options (187 to Bukit Batok and Woodlands, 240 and 246 in Taman Jurong, and so on).
before 1996, 178 was always filled to the brim. after Woodlands MRT opening, demand dropped
in 2005, PTC rejected SMRT request to convert 178 into a peak hour service
Oh really ah? Can share more about the peak hour service thing
@@TIB1234Tin 2005/2006, the old Public Transport Council will release monthly results of service amendments/request by SMRT / SBS
major SMRT rejected requests that I recall were
178 convert to peak hour only
852 amend to end at AMK depot instead of Yishun
985 amend to end at Toa Payoh instead of Geylang Lor 1
for SBST, we were anticipating 71 and 117 in 2006 because it was approved by PTC (like new 43, 58, 59 era)
i forgot where 71 route
but 117 was supposed Hougang to CCK/Bt Batok like 161/168 style
unfortunately i cant find traces of the old website. the new PTC.gov.sg is different now.
back then, it felt more transparent as bus fans can see what SBST/SMRT were planning.
clearly SBST were into introducing many routes
and SMRT only seek to cut and amend
Oh, the request of all these can be found on PTC website?
Maybe you can try using wayback machine? Now you mention this, time to spice up my content for 2025 haha. I need deeper detail on this, hope this wayback machine website will be able to find some gold stuff
@@TIB1234T yeah! as mentioned, they openly published requests monthly. even included other small private bus operators requesting to run city peak hr services. many were rejected too. was an interesting time.
178: Marsiling & Corporation favourite
187: Bukit Batok & Lakeside favourite
Bro, did you forget svc 187? How can this not be in the video? Svc 187 has been appeared ever since when I was in my kindergarten until now..... It's almost legendary bus svc. Yes I know it doesn't go Taman Jurong area. Yes I know 178 it's also the legendary.........
Bro, 187 is younger than 178 for about 10 years and thats my intention to do this video.
Nonetheless, im about to make a new video on 187 next year instead. Stay tune!
Nice Video!
178 and 187
Same digit number, goes woodlands and boon lay together
The difference between 187 and 178. One ply between woodlands to Bukit Panjang by BKE. Another ply between woodlands road/woodlands Centre road
A slightly longer alternative to 187.
