Y'know, putting aside Luigi's resulting... uh... _disfigurement,_ "I HATE YOU" kind of gives us a glimpse into what could've happened if Luigi didn't take being in his brother's shadow in stride like he does nowadays, as one can roughly deduce from his deepest thoughts in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team's "Dream's Deep" section. In simpler terms, maybe there was a period of time Luigi where actually did dislike being in his brother's shadow (though I'm not sure if Luigi himself has ever implied it, as it doesn't come off like something he'd do), but the events of the Luigi's mansion series made him realize that maybe it isn't as bad as he had once thought. As a result, as more and more of his big bro's adventures have him play a pivotal part in (especially in the case of Dream Team) and as he found himself coming to his brother's rescue on at least 1 other occasion (assuming LM3 would be past the acceptance point), the more comfortable he became with being where he is. Who cares about being in your brother's shadow when he still appreciates you for being there when he needs you? As long as he's by his brother's side, he's there's nothing that can stop him. This is what makes the tone of "Alone v2" so tragic, especially in comparison to v1. He got out of his brother's shadow... and he failed his brother the one time he needed him most. That bites, truly. However, what if he had let that desire to be something more stew within, resulting in it warping and distorting into true hatred? Sure, Super Mario World is a little early for that to reach its boiling point, but it's still no less a harrowing look into such a possibility and its eventual consequences.
I completely agree with your analysis. I've played Dream Team and the Mansion series, and Luigi may have been uncomfortable with being number two for a while, playing a role in being the only one who can help at times, he's become more appreciative of being Mario's brother in small ways
Eventually becoming friends with Princess Daisy (well, friends at the very least, since their standing with each other is treated not too dissimilarly to that of Mario and Peach) must've factored in that acceptance as well, as after that ambiguous point in time he wouldn't really need to worry that much about Peach only thanking Mario for rescuing her when her usual kidnapping occurred (and Luigi is involved in rescuing her, obviously).

Super Mario Land came out roughly a year prior to Super Mario World. It is likely that at the time of Super Mario World, Luigi either hadn't been there yet, or at the very least hadn't met Daisy yet. Not like it matters, the Mario games' sense of continuity has always been rather loose, not necessarily nonexistent, but loose nevertheless. Does have the benefit of making stuff like this fair game to theorize about, so that's nice.

What I loved about the original creepypasta video when the part of "oh god no" came, was just its simplicity. They were small and red, all capitals. I just felt they just didn't express a scream, but a thought of the sorrow of a consequence as the pain got to him, a need to repent and ask anybody, anything, to give him more time to ask for forgivance. Not to get a second chance, but to let his brother know he was sorry.

that's my only issue in this mod. some tracks have lyrics, yet vocals overcrowd them, (all stars act 3. alone v2) or they are FAR too quiet. (oh god no, all stars act 4). everything else is fine though.
I like how this song expressed how mario wanted to avoid conflict by lowering the intensity the song in the beginning and raised intensity when mario realize that to avoid the situation he would have to fight his brother

I love that once when I was playing this song the cinematic of "WHY WON'T YOU DIE" glitched and had no sound so it was just Luigi pointing at the camera agressively lmao
i actually cried while playing this song. You see, at the moment i played it i just argued with my brother and we got angry at eachother. But then seeing this, it remembered me how lucky i was having a brother, and seeing this scne where one brother wanted to kill the other while the other still loved him and tried to make peace with him, it absolutely broke me, and i cried even more when i heard luigi saying "i hate you" at the end of the song, and i immidiatly went to apology to my brother, thankfully he accepted my apology, and we played some tekken together after that
I still think my favorite part of all this is at 2:00 when we get a part that plays in I HATE YOU as well, it's a really nice tie-in between the two, and was my favorite part of IHY as well. Still gives me goosebumps hearing that roll.
I don't care what anyone else says about this song, it is my favorite of the whole soundtrack. Not just for being a bop of a song, but just how thematically faithful it is to the source material. - The instrumental is constructed from various SNES soundfonts to the point where it sounds like a boss theme in something like Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, or Mega Man X. It even fits as a boss theme in Ersanio's adaptation of I HATE YOU, better than the music in the actual hack. - Alongside the vocals themselves being fun to listen to, the icing on these vocals is Luigi's spoken lines. They're so over the top and dramatic, and yet they don't have the oomf of a serious delivery. It's quite fitting and, in the older version was pretty damn hilarious, befitting with the fact that I HATE YOU was originally written as a joke. The only criticism I really have is common with some of the other songs in this mod, something that doesn't detract from their overall quality, but might be a reason why people have criticized the soundtrack. The vocals overlapping over each other works on the level that the Bros. are senselessly bickering and aren't listening to a damn thing each other are saying, but it also makes it hard to appreciate the individual vocals with how much that overlaps becomes egregious.

I completely agree with you, Smoke. This is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite Mario's Madness song. Maybe one of my favorite FNF songs of all time. Right up there with Cannibalism and Roundabout.
Doing my civic duty to remind everyone that "I Hate You." Is in the jokepasta because the creator was making it as to poke fun of the haunted game tropes but it was so well written that people seems to forget about it.
I always forget that due to the fact it is really well made, specially the fact that the guy who played it doesn't get haunted or anything, he just plays a creepy rom hack and that's it.
I absolutely adore how Mario's notes gradually sound more and more fast and almost desperate, like you can hear the desperate attempts to calm his brother down as his rage slowly rises to match Luigi's. Truly well-done music production. Comboed with the fact that Mario's chromatic is just samples of his actual voice in SMW really adds even more creative execution of the emotion in this song.

A battle between brothers over a bridge of hot lava is a recipe for tragedy, and you can hear it in the song as well. Luigi is envious of Mario while Mario is just upset that Luigi is siding with Bowser to begin with. Great work on this somber duet!

I know that it has been months since this comment was writed, but, FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO POINTS THIS OUT, like, the I Hate You creepypasta is literally the same thing as the Star Wars III Climax: - Second protagonist becomes evil manipulated by the main villain -Main protagnist and the traitor fight in a place near a river of lava -Main protagonist doesn´t want to fight the tratior because they use to be really good friends and tries to make him stop by talking, but blinded by rage, the second protagonist refuses to listen and tries to kill him -Main protagonist wins and the loser is throwed into the river of lava. -While the main protagonist shows regret of what they did, the second one spends his last moments cursing on him, screaming "I hate you". -In the next scene, the traitor appears with his face burned down. Like, the similarites are WAY to much to be a coincidence lol, the IHY creepypasta creator suerly is a big Star Wars Fan.
I feel like this song perfectly captures that feeling of Mario despreately trying to get his brother back, but failing to do so. More so than other IHATEYOU fnf songs that have mario battling his brother. This is my favorite song in the mod, easy win.
Was not expecting a prequel to I Hate You in this mod but I'm glad we got it. Good song overall and the hard to hear but still audible lines during the song were surprisingly emotional for a FNF mod about wacky plumbers being evil and all. Most videos that talk about their favorite parts of this song are near the end but I'm more into the segment at 1:10, the scene being a direct nod to the ending picture from the original creepypasta was well done, there’s also a faint sound from peach near the end if you listen closely.
I love this song, it really sounds like an argument between two brothers. Mario doesn't want to hurt his brother but Luigi doesn't see his brothers genuine attempts to reach out and talk things out. Especially with Mario saying 'Because your my brother" and Luigi responding with "You are no longer my brother". Although I Hate You.EXE had problems the story about jealously getting between two brothers is genuinely heart breaking especially since this one has one of them not trying to be mean or make the other jealous. This song encapsulates that feeling amazingly, and to finish with the most guttural scream of I HATE YOU just really pulls it together.
Oh I always just thought of that as a “sadness” motif, since it first shows up in Alone and, well, Beta is pretty sad. Mario is probably sad bc you know his brother is trying to kill him, and Luigi is probably sad because he feels betrayed
Something that makes me enjoy certain fnf songs is how they try to express emotion despite just being vocal samples, and this song does that so well. I love it. Edit: After listening to this song countless times, and it’s still one of my favorite fnf fan songs, there’s one thing that has been bugging the absolute hell outta me, but I hear a weird high pitched noise when Mario starts singing but sometimes it also just happens on its own. I am begging for kenny to rerelease the song fixing that, especially if there’s gonna be an update to fix weird audio quality issues or stuff like that. It’s very distracting and sometimes kinda hurts my ears, I don’t exactly want a v2 (but considering how fire all of kenny’s v2’s are I wouldn’t be adversed to it being made) this is just something I see as an objectively bad thing about the song, if it being the only bad thing about the song at all. Love ur work and I am giving this constructive criticism because of it :)

I'm gonna be honest, when I saw the cutscene for this I expected the song "Retaliation" by River, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. This song is legitimately so good, great job!
I like the fact that Mario is technically portrayed as the enemy in this song. In FNF, the opponents are usually portrayed being on the left side, usually get the harder note patterns first, and usually start the song. It’s almost as if it’s Luigi’s POV, seeing Mario as an enemy. Just a neat detail I think is cool.
I am in love with the fact their voices are base don the Mario world tv show, the samples, when they actually sung, made me half expect a mama Luigi song.
I still think it would've made more sense to name THIS song "I Hate You" considering you know, the theme of this song and what Luigi says at the end, and the other song "Oh God No" because he was thrown in the lava.

that's my only issue in this mod. some tracks have lyrics, yet vocals overcrowd them, (all stars act 3. alone v2) or they are FAR too quiet. (oh god no, all stars act 4). everything else is fine though.
I like how this song expressed how mario wanted to avoid conflict by lowering the intensity the song in the beginning and raised intensity when mario realize that to avoid the situation he would have to fight his brother

i actually cried while playing this song. You see, at the moment i played it i just argued with my brother and we got angry at eachother. But then seeing this, it remembered me how lucky i was having a brother, and seeing this scne where one brother wanted to kill the other while the other still loved him and tried to make peace with him, it absolutely broke me, and i cried even more when i heard luigi saying "i hate you" at the end of the song, and i immidiatly went to apology to my brother, thankfully he accepted my apology, and we played some tekken together after that

I still think my favorite part of all this is at 2:00 when we get a part that plays in I HATE YOU as well, it's a really nice tie-in between the two, and was my favorite part of IHY as well. Still gives me goosebumps hearing that roll.

I don't care what anyone else says about this song, it is my favorite of the whole soundtrack. Not just for being a bop of a song, but just how thematically faithful it is to the source material.
- The instrumental is constructed from various SNES soundfonts to the point where it sounds like a boss theme in something like Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, or Mega Man X. It even fits as a boss theme in Ersanio's adaptation of I HATE YOU, better than the music in the actual hack.
- Alongside the vocals themselves being fun to listen to, the icing on these vocals is Luigi's spoken lines. They're so over the top and dramatic, and yet they don't have the oomf of a serious delivery. It's quite fitting and, in the older version was pretty damn hilarious, befitting with the fact that I HATE YOU was originally written as a joke.
The only criticism I really have is common with some of the other songs in this mod, something that doesn't detract from their overall quality, but might be a reason why people have criticized the soundtrack. The vocals overlapping over each other works on the level that the Bros. are senselessly bickering and aren't listening to a damn thing each other are saying, but it also makes it hard to appreciate the individual vocals with how much that overlaps becomes egregious.

Doing my civic duty to remind everyone that "I Hate You." Is in the jokepasta because the creator was making it as to poke fun of the haunted game tropes but it was so well written that people seems to forget about it.
I always forget that due to the fact it is really well made, specially the fact that the guy who played it doesn't get haunted or anything, he just plays a creepy rom hack and that's it.

I absolutely adore how Mario's notes gradually sound more and more fast and almost desperate, like you can hear the desperate attempts to calm his brother down as his rage slowly rises to match Luigi's. Truly well-done music production. Comboed with the fact that Mario's chromatic is just samples of his actual voice in SMW really adds even more creative execution of the emotion in this song.

A battle between brothers over a bridge of hot lava is a recipe for tragedy, and you can hear it in the song as well. Luigi is envious of Mario while Mario is just upset that Luigi is siding with Bowser to begin with. Great work on this somber duet!

- Second protagonist becomes evil manipulated by the main villain
-Main protagnist and the traitor fight in a place near a river of lava
-Main protagonist doesn´t want to fight the tratior because they use to be really good friends and tries to make him stop by talking, but blinded by rage, the second protagonist refuses to listen and tries to kill him
-Main protagonist wins and the loser is throwed into the river of lava.
-While the main protagonist shows regret of what they did, the second one spends his last moments cursing on him, screaming "I hate you".

Was not expecting a prequel to I Hate You in this mod but I'm glad we got it. Good song overall and the hard to hear but still audible lines during the song were surprisingly emotional for a FNF mod about wacky plumbers being evil and all. Most videos that talk about their favorite parts of this song are near the end but I'm more into the segment at 1:10, the scene being a direct nod to the ending picture from the original creepypasta was well done, there’s also a faint sound from peach near the end if you listen closely.
I love this song, it really sounds like an argument between two brothers. Mario doesn't want to hurt his brother but Luigi doesn't see his brothers genuine attempts to reach out and talk things out. Especially with Mario saying 'Because your my brother" and Luigi responding with "You are no longer my brother". Although I Hate You.EXE had problems the story about jealously getting between two brothers is genuinely heart breaking especially since this one has one of them not trying to be mean or make the other jealous. This song encapsulates that feeling amazingly, and to finish with the most guttural scream of I HATE YOU just really pulls it together.

Something that makes me enjoy certain fnf songs is how they try to express emotion despite just being vocal samples, and this song does that so well. I love it.
Edit: After listening to this song countless times, and it’s still one of my favorite fnf fan songs, there’s one thing that has been bugging the absolute hell outta me, but I hear a weird high pitched noise when Mario starts singing but sometimes it also just happens on its own. I am begging for kenny to rerelease the song fixing that, especially if there’s gonna be an update to fix weird audio quality issues or stuff like that. It’s very distracting and sometimes kinda hurts my ears, I don’t exactly want a v2 (but considering how fire all of kenny’s v2’s are I wouldn’t be adversed to it being made) this is just something I see as an objectively bad thing about the song, if it being the only bad thing about the song at all. Love ur work and I am giving this constructive criticism because of it :)

Just realized that alone and Oh god No share a specific melody in their at 2:00 on this song and at 2:20 on Alone they sound extremely similar which I think is pretty cool cause one song is about a luigi grieving over not being brave enough to rescue his brother while the other is so jealous of his brother he tries to kill him just to get out of his shadow

I like the fact that Mario is technically portrayed as the enemy in this song. In FNF, the opponents are usually portrayed being on the left side, usually get the harder note patterns first, and usually start the song. It’s almost as if it’s Luigi’s POV, seeing Mario as an enemy. Just a neat detail I think is cool.
