Unfortunately this isn’t true. I just checked and TCU had 15 sacks against Nevada back in 2000 (back when LaDainian Tomlinson played at TCU). This game would be the second-highest in FBS history though.
Neat to discover that Shipman was part of the Fighting Irish squad we upset back in the Myrtle Beach Miracle - real full circle moment, that right there. I have to imagine he'll hear his name called at some point next April, so here's hoping we can send him to [insert site of 2030 NFL Draft here] with a ring or two! :)
People have to remember Ogbonna is a redshirt freshman who saw snaps in only two games (like 7 total snaps). He will be GREAT, he’s basically a true freshman. To put it shortly… let him cook. Go Bulls let’s get it🔥💪🏾
He'll need to throw a pass more than 10 yards downfield to "cook". Trejo and McNabb are being wasted in this style of offense. And we know he can throw deep and run too, we saw it just last season with Staley, Trejo and Dingle.
@ well that’ll come, I think coach cane is trying to just build some rapport/confidence with the unit as a whole. I agree tho it’ll be nice to see some shots, also some tunnel screens to Trejo could be major YAC plays too. I’m team Ogbonna & we have 3/4 years with him at the helm so I was just saying that folks shouldn’t be calling for him to be benched already. Some people have begun to already
@@CollegeSportsREVIVED Fr cane was never that bad at kicking, it's just that ur kickers ratings matter and you can do everything right and still miss if the accuracy rating is low
With how good the offensive line is and was today, I think even 23 passes was too much. The offense seemed to stall when we got too pass heavy, and if it's 3rd and 3 or less, it should be an automatic run, especially with how dynamic Maier is. Ogbonna has a long way to go before he's the engine behind the offense - keep up the RPOs and underneath throws as he continues to develop. This year's team should be a pass rush and run game oriented squad with how good both lines of scrimmage are. SUPER excited to see how this young team continues to grow! Go Bulls!
This was a good showing. Run game was strong and solid, and the defense shined This is gonna be an interesting season for sure. Good luck Cane, this season is just getting started
A comment on a previous video already highlighted this, but I’m surprised that you haven’t mentioned David ogbana’s brother, CJ, from the start of the series, as a cool storyline
Some stuff to work on but man what a statement to get things going well. 13 sacks by the defense is a heck of a accomplishment. I am excited to see how this team continues to grow.
Still shaky but nothing like the Houdini-level escape job in last season's opener. I still say this team will need to prove it can throw the ball, even current football video game AI will eventually learn to stack the box.
Cane actually has a kicker with decent ratings. He was bad kicking the first few season but at least half of his misses would've gone in if he had an average kicker
there definitely needs to be a storyline about David Ogbonna being CJ Ogbonna's little brother or nephew or cousin or something lol how has that not been brought up yet 😅😅
Maier looked good! But he will definitely need more rotation. Especially, with the wear and tear. McNabb could even take some receiving snaps out of the backfield
Shaky opening but a win is a win here’s hoping ogbonna can develop and that sorts out the QB spot for the next four years on a side note I’m super excited to see how maier does now that he’s RB1 gotta sure some things up but overall we’ve got potential to be great
Will be interesting to see what happens when you play a team with a better offensive line. On offense, it's a totally different dynamic using 15 plays to score with basically no home run shots. Gonna be a fun season to watch.
I think managing Maier's carries is going to be important in the future like you said (You could see that fumble coming from a mile away with all the hits he was taking) but I'd also recommend using more RPO's since you also said you wanted to focus on more of a quick passing game. RPO's are great for quick passes runs and the right rpos have the option to scramble with Ogbana to utilize his athleticism
It’s kinda funny that if Cane actually keeps his word and plays how he wants to play offensively he’s gonna lose his 3rd favorite prospect ever in this series
I was expecting 10 sacks for the defense. Expecting them to carry the team this year, and there has to be some form of dominance against the weaker teams you'll be playing. Offense is worrying, but nothing too much. If they can run the ball efficiently, there'll be enough room to grow. Temple should be a fun game, and should give you a clearer picture of the offense
This isn't going to work. Yes Ogbonna was fine, but if you don't pass the ball he will transfer at the end of the year, and you won't have a QB starter at all. Not thought this through. The Defense was good.
This team Overall wise is capeable of making to to the cfb playoffs and possibly winning a round 1 game depending on the opponent Cane this is up to you to not f it up
I think this has all the makings to be a down year compared to last season. After one game, not sure if the QB play is where it needs to be, but the supporting cast and defense may be good enough. Lots of turnover at the top
I still think 23 passing attempts is too much… this needs to be a very very run dominant offense especially with our running-back group also think you gotta use Ogbannas scrambling ability more great Win though this teams got some promise!
Cane, At 26:35, you stated, "It [the passing offense] was really simple, really sticking to what I talked about in the off-season... and today it really did come true." What you talked about, for the umpteenth time, was using a quick, high percentage, short passing game. The very first pass attempt had the QB holding the ball for five plus seconds before attempting a pass ten yards downfield, while on the run. Not what I would call a "quick, high percentage" pass attempt. The second pass attempt was two plays later on a third and five scenario where none of the pass routes were less than ten yards and the actual pass thrown was twelve yards downfield into double coverage. Once again, not the "quick, high percentage, short" passing game you had once more promised us. If you need five yards, why are running routes that might come open at more than twice the distance you need? Cane, you are a creature of habit - this makes you human. Your habits are to try to throw passes which, upon completion, will place the ball more than ten yards downfield, your preference is even more than ten yards. You think it's normal to throw the ball nearly forty yards downfield, regardless of the abilities of your players. You need to cull and replace some of the plays in your Buffalo playbook to create something which will fit the capabilities of your players. I suggest plays with two or more routes that are quick, short, and easily completed for each passing play. When you have a choice of receivers, throw to the one with fewer defenders within close range of him so he can add on yards after the catch and be less likely to drop the pass because he has a linebacker plowing into him as he tries to catch the ball. With Buffalo's O-line and a "quick, high percentage" passing game, one can only determine that every time the Buffalo QB suffers a sack it is squarely on the operator of the Offense - not the failures of the digital personnel. Quick, high percentage passes are not thrown after holding the ball for five seconds. Quick, high percentage passes are not thrown twelve yards downfield into double coverage when all you need are five yards for the first down. Quick, high percentage pass plays do not result in any sacks when you have a decent O-line, like Buffalo, and your Offense rating is seven points higher than your opponents' Defense rating. I believe Adrian Peterson's history with the Vikings must have occurred during an exceptionally impressionable period of your life because you always seem to be chasing the dream of finding an Adrian Peterson of your very own, despite the fact that he only averaged twenty receptions per year. In Peterson's fifteen year career, he caught six touchdown passes. Roger Craig managed to catch that many TD's in a single season. Which player do you think is more suitable for the current football environment? - sj
Great job with the line, but something to remain aware of....Ogbonna's Dealbreaker. You're going to have to open it up more if you want to keep him around next year as well.
FYI Cane, 13 sacks in a game is an all-time national record, and you beat it by 2 full sacks
Will that show up in the record books. I don’t know if this game has team records like player records
@@NoobGamer-46-i9d yep it should, it'd be under national single game records

Keep in mind Ogbannas dealbreaker if you want to be a run first offense.
Oh My Goodness! Cane actually stuck to a short passing game and running approach! I haven't seen that since early Kalispell.

It doesn’t work like that. I’ve had plenty of players I’ve encouraged to transfer disappeared while worse players find a spot.
