GoZen You clearly have no idea what racism is. I was not degrading anyone based on ethnical background. What I was talking about was the fact that most people in the metal scene are white. It's not necessarily a thing that's very common in the african american culture and community to do stuff like this. It's just great to see some variety in the metal music family, some different faces and different people.
Calling African American person Black is racist, racism is not only based on ethnical background. In what culture singing songs isnt common? Of course the music itself is different but the whole idea to sing isnt that different.
GoZen I'm talking about the genre of music. Calling someone black or white is not degrading or offensive my any means and therefore not racist. Yes, it is based on ethnical background. It's called racism for a reason. And lastly, my comment was positive for crying out loud! I love to see metal music reaching out to people regardless of their gender, religion, race or age, and I wanted to express that and encourage this man to keep doing his thing! I was not disrespecting him at all.
***** I'm personally emphasizing those certain features because of them being contrary to popular, stereotypical beliefs about people in the metal community and also "black people" community/culture at the other side of the table. I just want to encourage people to break the chains of "cultural appropriation" if that's the correct term here, and to do things they really enjoy doing no matter what others think of them. I see no point at trying to deny completely objective aspects about certain people when they're being used for practical purposes. Hell, if I was on the video, you could see that my skin colour is very light, so it would be much more practical, convenient and truthful to just call me a white person, instead of assuming I'm slavic for instance. I think it's much more racist to, for example, generalize all people with dark skin colour to have African roots, while they could just as well be related to Aboriginals, for instance, and thus have darker skin colour. Calling a person with dark skin colour a black person (or a person with light skin colour a white person) is much more truthful unless we go really deep into philosophy, start questioning the reliability of empirism and such, as we can clearly see the colour of a person's skin with our very own eyes. Might sound a little confusing as English is not my mother tongue and I could explain my view on things a lot better in my own native language which is Finnish, but I hope you can catch my thoughts.
P.S. I have a bunch of black friends myself too, and as they all have different ethnical backgrounds (one is from Ethiopia, one from Somalia, etc) they all like to call theirselves black rather than discriminate them from the bigger branch to an even smaller minority of people sharing the exact same ethnical background. The term "black people" (as well as the term "white people") is an umbrella term. You know what I mean?

Just because it's against the grain, does not make it right nor constructive. Think about it. If a guy who's never ran track before, tells me to fix my form and I know he has no clue what he's talking about. I'm suppose to take his advice, simply because he went against the grain?

I've been doing music for well over 10 years, for the record. The problem is, people on the internet and even real life, think that it's something to take from going against the grain. It's not. I take into consideration things that I have analyzed thoroughly from credible sources. Not random people just saying something just be saying it.
