    Hi Mark, I’ve watched a few of your videos, and they are very very practical and informative. However, I wouldn’t be totally comfortable doing what you did in this video. I just want to make it clear that I’m not complaining, because I’m sure there are more than a few viewers who may find this video very useful. The question I’d like to ask, with regard to caravan fuses. I have a Swift caravan 2023 model. What is the best caravan assortment fuse pack to buy. After watching your video I thought it might be a good the idea to keep a selection of fuses just in case one of the caravan components decides to pack up.

      Thanks Mark, again if doing anything with the 230v just make sure its fully disconnected and then lock the battery box, so it can't be plugged back in by mistake.

      @@thecaravanplace thanks Mark, saw the comments about working with Electrics🙏🏻. As with anything electrical, either disconnect the source of ‘Risk’ to yourself, or get a trained professional to do it. But sometimes common sense prevails with this kind of work. Cheers and keep the vids coming, great advice in all of them for me as a relatively new Vanner.

    A tip if you don’t have a magnetic screw driver is to get a small bit of Electrical Tape and just tape the screw onto the end of the screw driver. Just have enough as to keep it on but enough to have it let go when you need to pull it off.

    A use full thing to have is a magnetic tray for screws, and stick decorators sticky tape into the tray, so that you can use a pen to divide up the tray and mark up which screws are from.

    Those Mean Well Chargers are switch mode. That involves rectified mains voltages that will be well over 320 volts, to make matters worse the smoothing capacitors can hold the charge and would result in a nasty shock, or less serous blowing up the PCB. This is NOT an area those without experience should be touching ,ask any experienced electronics service engineer most of us have been caught out by a relaxed approach.

    hi there.....my caravan is a 1997 abbey vouge GTS 417....went for a break last week on east coast...got everything up and running BRILLIANT...until day after,battery ran down so checked fuses under seating at the front near the water heater and the van fuse looked as if it had very slight burn so went to halfords and got 20amp fuses got back changed fuse and still the the battery running down...do you know if another fuse runs from the battery lead to the main fuses for the van? i did find one video on utube which was in a swift caravan and that fuse had gone he changed it and he had battery power back on but only showed about 75% charge on meter, hopefully mine as a fuse on same lead...also before my battery ran down i tried the electric heater,it lit up the switch light then around 10seconds went onto heater fualt then 5seconds low battery voltage? so is this becuase it could just be a fuse or is there anything else can be the culprit,...thank you hope you can help...ROB....your videos are very helpful..👍

    I have same vehicle 2011 and tried a few things 3 new alternators got 8.8v from field wire from PCM but still not charging is there something I am missing I been at this for months I remember the days when alternator went bad just replace it or the voltage regulator now you have to figure out what the hell is controlling what.

    My caravan battery when plugged into the mains does not charge the battery. I presume it has a charger unit, but I can’t seem to find it.

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  4 месяца назад

      Check the fuse at the back of the battery box and all other fuses. Then if you can't see a charger, it's normally at the rear of the trip switches, built into the main unit.

    I have a 2018 bailey unicorn segovia
    My battery is over charging I open the battery box & the battery was bubbling & smells of eggs gas what can I do I've disconnected it

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  Год назад

      It's possible that it's the battery is faulty rather than the charger, once the battery is disconnected test what power you have on the control panel, while the 230v is plugged in, it should be around 13.6v. If this is correct then it's just a new battery.

    • @whatsmining9917
      @whatsmining9917 Год назад +1

      Think you're correct I've changed the battery it's sowing 13v on screen & 12.7v on battery the old battery only 8.6v

    The yellow button-- isnt that the earth test button ?

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  Год назад

      It's a test button, it does simulate an earth leakage fault, but it will trip the main RCD confirming that you have 230v coming into the caravan. And also isolating the 230v inside the caravan. You do have to be careful as you will still have 230v coming from the external socket into the caravan consumer unit. But no power to any sockets etc.

    • @percyprod6574
      @percyprod6574 Год назад +1

      It doesn't actually test the earth, it just tests the RCD is working mechanically by putting a voltage to the neutral via a resistor, it will trip even without an earth.

    Always love your video’s ‘Mark but really disappointed with this video, don’t think you should be leading followers to undertake what is potentially a very dangerous task, this should be left to competent specialist, you made a comment about making sure 240 volt is turned off as it might hurt if you touch it but the danger is it might just kill if anyone comes into contact with incoming mains, not everyone has the electrical competence and experience as yourself. As a qualified electrician i would never recommend any one to undertake anything that has to 240 volt involved. All the electrical bodies regulating 240 volt would always recommend using a trained engineer to complete such work. I have seen the consequences of people who have messed with this type of work and suffered because of it. I understand you are telling people to isolate all supplies before hand but we in the electrical industry have a regulated disconnect procedure for a reason and I haven’t seen that done in this video. I really enjoy all your videos Mark and an ardent follower of yours but please stay away from this kind of diy as this might just get some one killed, God forbid. Sorry I have to point this out but it is easy to make electricity to work but it’s not easy to make it work safely.

      @thecaravanplace  Год назад +1

      Great comment and spot on. I think I need to do a run through on this. I had tried not to get too much into the 230v side but it does lead into it. I can sometimes get carried away, especially as it turned out to be a different issue than originally thought. Thanks for raising this Philip 👍
