- The red-backed rat snake (Oocatochus rufodorsatus, CANTOR, 1842), also known as the frog-eating rat snake, is the only viviparous colubrid species in Russia. The species is considered rare, hence it is included in some regional Red Data Books.

Wonderful shots and great snakes. 👍
Thanks! Always looking forward to cool sunsets from you!
Man. These shots are simply amazing Hitch. Please keep making videos!!!
Thank you! Really appreciate your support! I am working on it but my dying camera lets me down every time I could have tons of nice footage.
Such cool-looking ratsnakes. Do you find them near water?
Yes, these guys are semi-aquatic so you can count on them when you are near a river especially if it's a flood plain.
@@hitcher1119 Interesting.
Such amazing snakes! They act quite docile. Great video!
Thank you! Like Nerodia water snakes these guys are quite far from being docile
I would have guessed some sort of water snake... didn't look like most rat snakes to me
You are correct. There is nothing rat-related in them except for the name... They feed on frogs and fish, they are semi-aquatic. I think they are much closer to some of North American Nerodia or Thamnophis than to rat snakes.
By any chance, do you know of anyone selling these
I don't.
Copulation season coming soon
The mating season is over and now snakes are laying eggs. Thanks for watching!
