- Hungary joined the European Union in 2004. It was one of eight nations in central and eastern Europe that agreed to be governed under EU laws.
But in recent years, Brussels and Budapest have not seen eye to eye. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban says his policies are based on conservative Christian, patriotic values. Meanwhile, many in the EU and elsewhere say his government promotes homophobic, xenophobic, anti-democratic and even authoritarian values.
But what has been the response from the Hungarian government? Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto talks to Al Jazeera.

For example, in Hungary, I heard that the opposition leader got some 5 minutes of air time on national tv for the entire duration of the campaign. Is this wrong?
I am no Hungary expert, but I did watch some videos of Orban in European Parliament. Was same like this interview. Members of the Parliement asked him about corruption in Hungary and Orban's responded how Hungarian nation defended Europe from Mongols in XII & XIII centuries.
These two facts are enough to know that Hungarian government is garbage. Pls do let me know if I am wrong somewhere.

The Hungarian people are blessed to have Viktor Orban for their leader. Many countries are not so fortunate.
I am Hungarian and I love my country very much! We Hungarians owe nothing but thanks to Mr. Szijjárto, who is the best foreign minister of the past 70 years. He is young, very smart and very honest. Mr. Viktor Orbán was elected prime minister 5 times, which the West views very badly, but we are not interested in that. Our country has suffered a lot in the course of history, mainly because of the communists after 1945. We have fought a lot for our freedom since the existence of our country (Hungary is more than 1000 years old). Our country was much bigger than this, but this was simply stolen from us, and those who did this act as if it never happened. BUT we know and we won't forget!

This is a very bold step taken by Hungary. There are some sensitive things that should only be tought by parents when it is a proper time, I agree with this idea. Also, as a Muslim, I completely support Hungary's stance. It is peoples right to do whatever they want in private, but when spreading ideas like LGBTQ issue at school, especially government forcefully doing it is unthinkable. The whole world is going crazy.

This was a good interview. The interviewer pushed him but the minister didn't dodge the questions or fumble, and actually gave straight answers.
shoddy accommodations though. It looks like a cheap apartment.
He's always to the point and rebukes the interviewers if the questions are unfair.

I love Peter Szijjarto. And what a communicator in a foreign language! My admiration knows no bounds.
Yes, clear and relaxed because he's basically telling the truth. Not like the neocon slimeballs like Macron, Boris and now Liz, and the rest of the mass murderers.
I know! His English is so good. Every time I hear him, I marvel at his English, and I wonder if he learned it as a child. I think he must have. It's so good. He speaks like someone who learned it as a child, someone who grew up bilingual.
As a linguist, I can tell you that Hungarian to English is not easy. It's one of the harder ones. The differences in grammatical structures are huge. Then there's the different alphabets, and pronounciation, and....on and on.
That is why he always fascinates me with how naturally he speaks. He speaks even better than Viktor Orban. Don't get me wrong, Orban speaks very well, but he does speak more like someone who learned as a young adult, like possibly at Univeresity or something.
The thing that always blows me away about Mr. Szijjarto's English is how natural it is. You can be a very good speaker of another language, but still sound very book-like and not very natural.
He always strikes me as so intelligent. Just super sharp.
Thank God for Hungary. Standing against this evil!

Al Jazeera is financed directly by the government and not the people via media tax. In 2015, Al Jazeera commented on modern slavery in Qatar, it was removed a day later on request by Qatari's media department.

The EU uses the same arguments against Hungary, Poland and Slovenia which are the countries with no left-wing government in EU bloc. The EU is desperate to change it and this is the main goal of the EU - to overthrow the democratically elected, conservative governments in these countries and replace them with leftist governments completely obedient to the EU. It seems that the EU wants to become a politically uniform bloc, just like politically uniform Soviet bloc used to be.

The EU is growing towards a technocratic superstate. Many Europeans would vote for an exit of the EU, also many Europeans have respect for Hungary and her attitude towards the EU.
Hungary should never have joined the EU and the EU should have stayed the EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY with the original 9 countries.

The EU has already grown into a technocratic superstate. As you say, many Europeans would vote to leave the EU... I think we could all vote for radical changes... especially one of the first points is the exit and the break with the US military and economic torture that has been going on for 75 years on EU soil ...then to make the EU on the right basis as it was originally conceived...I think that it is not necessary to dismantle the EU, but to reset it from the foundations...and to set up a path...because it leads to an autocracy and a Stalinist dictatorship...a bureaucratic one party...which sits in Brussels...
