- Today on Dead Dodge Garage, we’ve got a live one! After years of patiently waiting for the stars to align, I am extremely proud and grateful to be the new caretaker of this 1971 Dodge Demon 340. It’s not perfect - but it’s pretty dang great.
Авто/Мото
I was ten years old in 1971 and seeing these mopars brand new on the streets was a thrill. My older brothers said the 340's were mustang munchers.
The more I see current vehicles, the more I admire the performance cars of 50+ years ago. What an awesome driver!
I agree John!!
Still a bad As$ car 40+ years later, Demons were a cool car and while not the fastest could easily chew up most small block offerings from the competition. Thanks for this trip back!
Thank you for giving Dale the recognition and respect he deserves hes a great man. I was blessed to be his neighbor for years and we became very very close
Absolutely. He’s a great guy and I am extremely lucky to have been allowed to buy his car. I have no intentions of changing it much from how he built it - it’s his car and it tells his story. I’m going to take care of it and enjoy the hell out of it. Haha.
The unbridled joy of getting your own time machine from back when. It's evident in your commentary.
Congratulations Man. That is going to make you smile so much.
Damn that's awesome! That's a bucket list car Fer sure!
Very nice acquisition. You struck gold in that A Body was stored indoors. Hope you can keep it and make all necessary improvements if need be..
Back in the 70s my buddy had a 71 Demon 340 in metallic brown while I had a 69 Roadrunner in blue..
That's a great car and an even better story!
I'm glad you got this one, you are the right guy to carry the torch.
I once owned a '70- 340 Duster, slush.
LOVED IT!!
Nice car.
Great find.
Really a gem.
Great content.
Thank you, EM.
Congrats! That is a beast, and your commentary had me laughing the whole way through. I recently got an '81 Camaro street rod that my bank helped me acquire. Sometimes with these older cars, you gotta make a play while you can because you never know when or if you're going to have another opportunity. Enjoy it I say!
Exactly. It had been on the table for a long time but I was worried I was going to miss it, so I asked the bank and was kind of amazed when they said… yep. No problem. And thanks!
I think that is one of the coolest cars, the tail lights make this car, the coolest rear end out there.
Awesome ride!
Just found your channel,,I'm a GM guy but I have owned/luved all brand's,,this a sweet Mopar and a fantastic history!!

Beautiful Demon! Looking forward to more videos on it !
Absolutely gorgeous car, I love everything about it. I had a 340 in a 72 Dodge Power Wagon 3/4 ton short bed. Sounded awesome and amazingly got 20 mpg on the highway. Great engines
That’s awesome. My friend has a story of one swapped into a Sweptline D200. He says it was abominable, and not slow… 340s are fantastic. I feel the same way about the car - there is no detail I dislike. Everything is just right. Ok, I am tempted to put the original dress back on the engine. Which I am equipped to do, if I make that decision one day.
It reminds me of my 1972 Demon which is long gone . Very cool I am Port Orchard I will watch for you driving around Washington
Such a cool car and a great video! Can't wait to see more!
I just happened on your channel when this blue Demon caught my eye. I'll be watching much more. I had a 71 Duster, same color with black vinyl top, 318, 3-speed. Got it new when I was a senior in high school. Five years later, after graduating from college and having some money, I built up a 340 and put it in with a 4-speed and 3.55 sure grip third member. Would give anything to have that car today! P.S. Had the same Sun Super tach, but mounted on the dash!
That’s awesome! I love the Demon. It might need a Duster companion at some point in the future… thanks for watching!
Congrats to you. Very nice car.
Wonderful story there Sir....congrats!! (I am fortunate enough to care take a 70' Duster with a 440 Wedge....going 1/4 mile at a time ✌😎)
Thats freakin awesome, I really enjoyed this upload
Great car man, Anyone would be proud to own that baby. Subbed and hope to see more.
Sweet ride! Congrats!
Your Demon 😈 makes me miss mine,it was a 72 Orange Demon 😈,but only had a 318!!! You never forget your first car!!! I love your 340,it's Definitely a Mopar Beauty!!! BTW,Back in the 80s I got my License in A Duster!!! Enjoy your Demon 😊❤️🇨🇦😎
SWEET from Olympia.
Congrats!
I met this original owner a few years back at the Mopar show in Graham. Bad ass car !
Beautiful brother!
You are a fortunate guy.
I know. It took a lot of hard work, but even more luck.
These are the things that you do that make going to work bearable .
CONGRATS ON UR VERY SWEET MOPAR 👍
I hopefully will be getting a 1971 Glacier Blue Demon myself soon with a Blown 440!
The first car I ever “drove” sitting in my Dad’s lap while I steered was a 1971 Duster!
Dad’s gone now 5 years, and I swore I would get an old school Dodge in his honor, and just like you the bank said yes!
I’m just waiting to see if I won the auction now and then I’ll be on the way to pick it up!
Congratulations on your car and I hope to post video of me picking up mine!
Fingers crossed!
Good luck! Unrelated, I spy a Cobra in your channel picture. I had a replica for a time. It was way too much fun. So I sold it and bought my dream ‘68 Charger. And as happy as I am with that decision, I think I need to own another Cobra some day…
I always wanted to buy a Dart Sport with the fold down back seat, and add 71 Demon front clip, tail panel, and Rallye dash.
Great car, great channel, subbed!
I love original day 2 cars. Awesome .
Me too!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Awesome purchase ! Hell yeah ! 👍👍
Cool Car- great history!
Cruise till the wheels fall off👍
Awesome video 👍🏻
Great car right color combo just drive and enjoy, congratulations!
Nice ride, huge improvement just throwing that battery cover in the trash.
You only go around one time..... make sure that one time is the best it can be, love the A body Mopars.
looks, sweet mate. love the car
Awesome!…And hilarious title / Tiger King reference 💸💸💸
I like it. It's cool. Congratulations.
One sexy beast right there. My brother has a project 1970 duster original 318 auto but he wants to put a big block in it & 4 spd.
Great pick up
That car might have some bumps, bruises and scars but it adds to the overall look of it. That is a great looking and sounding car.
Congratulations buddy,
Know the feeling, I own a 1970 VG Valiant 770 Hemi Hardtop in Australia.
Bought off my mate in 2012, he bought it off the original owner in 2000 & cruised it for a year & shed it away till I bought it.
Drove it for 3 years then off the road for 5 years whilst she got a resto.
All the money in the world can't buy the feeling driving a old Mopar & here in Australia is no different.
Cheers
Louis 👍 ❤
Is that the one with a 6 cyl Hemi? Were they a "Slant Six"?
Great score !
Great car man.
Congratulations
I've got a 1970 340 duster, love those engines.
Just went out with a buddy this past weekend to pick up his 1970 Dart Swinger 340 4 speed.
Sweet! Uncle and friends had one whooped everything
When I was in high school one of my friends had a 340 Duster in 71 and car was so fun and it was a 4 speed.
Ive had 340 Demons, Dusters, A-bodies & they fabulous!
Absolutely love this thing. It’s way too fun. I wasn’t sure I would ever get to own a 340 car.
Wow, that's a badass. Love to have that myself.
Your wrong! The car is perfect. Congratulations!! Had a 72 duster 4 speed. 380hp crate motor from Mopar. Miss it but will never forget the experience 😄
Not particularly a mopar fan but that car is bad azz. Congratulations!
Bruh. You are hilarious. You got yourself a sub
Congrats very very nice
You lucky dawg!!!!!
Wow, that's awesome
Only thing I'd change would be to put the Demon/Dart Sport scoop on it, otherwise it's perfect! Right stance, right wheels, sounds awesome! Congratulations dude!
I’m a sucker for the 70/71 dual scoops… Dale actually ordered the car with them and the spoiler, and it came without either. I’m very much tempted to add them - but I don’t think I can bring myself to drill holes in that hood. So I got a spare hood. Haha.
Wow, nice car!!!!
Sounds great
Sick new battery bro
You like that?! It’s like a shout out but without the shout out 😅
Very nice!
Welcome to the Club!!
Nice, congratulations on the car. You definitely have to get that rallye cluster visible. It's so much better than the base model gauges.
Totally, totally agree. I might put the cool 70s gauges under the dash, or may remove them for now. Haven’t decided, but have to be able to see that cluster!
@@DeadDodgeGarage yeah but just move the tach around to the right of the column where it’s visible. It’s too nice to get rid of. By the way, I love your new ride!
Cheers😊
Nice. Love the rims
I'm envious.
I’m not entirely sure this is real life yet.
Get rid of the extra gages.
That's got one of the prettiest factory dashboard ever
Great car !
I had the bench seat version .
My dream Mopar!
Thanks for the response! Your Demon is hot. Like those drag videos. Gonna follow up with an email shortly with some pics of my Demon with engine running. See what you think have some paperwork with this car. Also a California car originally.
Love that car
Nice ride
I finally get to see it.
Didn’t you see it earlier for like half a second? Lol
@@DeadDodgeGarage the eyes on the back of my head need glasses.
Man this makes me ill! Had a '70 Duster, same setup, my Dad sold it while I was away! If anyone bought a black duster out of a garage in Eugene, Oregon....I WANT IT BACK! Start out in 2nd gear, its long and it wins.
My first car was a 71’ Demon. Slant 6 three speed manual. Wish I still had it. Paid $300.00 for my granddad owned a used car dealership and he sold it to me for the trade in price!
My 2nd car was a 71 Scamp, Slant 6 three speed manual. Paid $1200 sold it for $700 (offered 300 trade) and sometimes I wish I still had it.
Had a 71 340 4 speed lemon twist demon with 4:56 gears. Really miss that car
This was my first car. Only it had a 225 auto with a big dent on the side. I sold it to a freind for $100 when I bought a 340, 4 speed 73 Ralle challenger, pewter with air and 69k miles. Paid $2100 in 1979
I had a ‘73 Rallye Challenger too! It was yellow. The 340 was gone, and in its place a 400 big block with the original four speed, headers, and glass packs with side exits in front of the tires. That was a fun car - but one with little practical use to me. I sold it to pay the tax man, pay some credit card debt, and buy Christmas presents a few years ago.
In 1972 I bought a used 71 340 demon 4 speed Hurst cp 391 gears sure grip 10.5 cr. Hood scoops with fresh air. Bucket seats tach just a great car I would love to have it back
So awesome. Only 2,050 or so four speeds were made. I randomly ran into another original 340 four speed at a small local track yesterday. Although his is now a hardcore big block drag car. So cool.
Nice demon!!
That car makes the world a better place! Hey, do you know any independent mechanics in the North Seattle or South Everett area you'd reccomend and who would work on a Crown Vic? Someone who charges a lot less than a dealer shop and does good work?
I don’t know anyone wrenching outside of my little world here, unfortunately.
The demon. It's a dart front end they put on another body like a road runner body or something. I like the look.
Duster! Yes it works very well. They also did the opposite and put the Duster nose on the Dart to create the Scamp. Not as sporty or angry but they’re kind of neat too.
Oh wow, nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the way you narrated this, are you brother to Mr Regular at Regular Cars? Similar delivery style, subscribed.
Haha. No, but I’m definitely a fan - and count him as an influence.
The engine sounds tight
The 71's were the ones to have, the 72's were detuned somewhat. Stupidest thing I ever did was sell mine. Turned 13:40's in the quarter, stock.
Yes - and they got cast cranks, mid 72 I believe. Dale bought the Demon in no small part because they hadn’t lowered compression or detuned the 340 yet - the other manufactures were dropping power across the board. I believe the production figure for 340/4 speed Demons in ‘71 is just under 2,050. Have to wonder how many have been wrapped around telephone poles or rusted out, and how many are left… either way, it’s a cool car. Dale got this one down the 1/4 mile in 13.20 @ 104MPH in stock form.
Is it ever NOT raining up there? I use to live in Spokane with a '63 Impala Convertible and wished I could put the top down more that did. I would have gone mad living in the Puget Sound region.
It’s only rained twice in the last couple months. Haha. It’s been strangely nice the last couple summers.
This car is not perfect yet it is beautiful.
Beautiful. The Darts and Dusters were much better drag cars than the Challengers and Cudas. They were so much lighter. And I think they have cool looks. They ride poorly like any economy car. For cross-country driving I am into the Challenger. For stop light driving the Dart is King.
My only problem for cross country in the E body is the lack of space. Totally agree though - they ride and handle so much better. My Challenger, despite sitting unused on a ranch for well over a decade, was a nice driving car (after replacing one loose tie rod end.)
Other than the 68 4-speed, the 71 340 4-barrels run the best.
Love the car I have two of them try to find the original 70-71 340 air cleaner
It came with 😁 I have almost every single original part. I’ve got the original V belts…
M 72 Duster 340 clone is the same. No history like this though. Had 4.10s with a .528 Mopar solid roller. I tamed it with a Comp XE275 cam, Edelbrock heads RPM AirGap and 3.23s. The one weird thing is they used a Muncie M-20 wide ratio instead of a A-833. They hacked the tunnel cross member. So since it’s a clone I’m going to put a TKX in it. After I finish wiring my Ramcharger. And I just bought a 85 D150 /6 4spd. That’ll get a magnum or a Hemi and a T-56. Already magnum swapped my Ramcharger in 2011 so I’m thinking Hemi.
Awesome! All of that is right up my alley. Haha. I strongly considered five speed for my car for about eighteen seconds… I just can’t do it. I had also strongly considered putting the factory 3.23s back in, but it’s far from a daily driver and I don’t want to take away from the awesomeness. Funny enough, I think that’s the cam he put in this one after the first cam (thumper 515? 509? Can’t remember) was a little much. My take on the car is that it needs to stay how it is spiritually, but I can improve pieces. For example, the transmission is about shot now… and the engine needs a re seal and freeze plugs. I may go roller cam, I’m occasionally hearing lifter noise and really not liking it.
Hi Mopar brother. Just subscribed to your channel. Seems we have a lot in common. I have a 1972 Demon 340 same color but is originally a six cylinder. Really like your content and would like to private chat with you. Planning to sell the Demon this summer or fall and have some things to fix before that happens. Oh play guitar too. Hope to hear from you. I also like the respect given to Dale and how you refer to the Demon as his car. I have a 1970 Super Bee I refer to as the Bobby J in honor of his service. Hope to hear from you.
Awesome. You’re welcome to email me at jamienoise@gmail.com with whatever questions you’ve got. All respect goes to Dale for saving the car all these years. It’s been Dale’s Demon since birth, and since I’ve known about it - so that’s what it is.
I have seen more than a few 340 cars cause a big block car to have a fit trying to outrun it.
