As a French you're pretty much my go to, to get updates on IMSA and Indycar so I'm really happy that you get to experience French motorsport culture ! Also in one of the recent entries Michel Vaillant was testing an IR18, implying that the team Vaillante will race in IndyCar in one of the next comic book !
Being stationed in Germany. Most big events(F1), Nurburgring are very friendly to English speakers. If you ever make a trip to an F1 event in Europe you’ll be blown away. I’m going to the Hungarian GP on July.
Can you share some titles please? Working at a library would be my dream job. I love books. I’m always looking for new motor racing books. I wish there was a new one about all the race tracks and info about all cars that race there including all the main branches of racing like IndyCar, NASCAR, and F1 but also IMSA and NHRA drag racing would be neat too. My son absolutely loves racing of any kind. We have the book Fast Forward Adam Skinner and James Gilleard. I wish it had more tracks in it. We also have other books about racetracks, but they are quite old. We also have lots of children’s books about race cars in general. My son will be in second grade next year.
It has so cool meet you and tour friend Steven! My mate Mario was absolutely surprised listening your voice when we was hanging around the Peugeot stand haha! Greetings from Barcelona! What a experience!
I was having traumatic flashbacks of the typical Ferrari F1 luck. Then they remembered they aren't the F1 team, and things worked out. The F1 team needs to poach some AF Corse team members.
A Land goes to Le Mans. Now that sounds like a thriller. Hope to see you at the Nürburgring 24 one day - I know a few people trackside who'll HAPPILY buy you a beer or three :D
I'm really glad you went David. What a cool experience. I'm also glad you said what you did about the French people. Because, my sister lives there, married a French guy. I have been there many many times and they are exactly how you discribed them. Anyways. Happy for ya for making the trip! Glad you are back safely. Welcome home.
As a French, it is funny to see you present all that stuff. Auto Hebdo is the only newspaper which covered Idycar races since 90's. The comic book Michel Vaillant is a myth for all motorsport fan !
I love this. You're such a knowledge fan and do a great job talking about your passion. I enjoyed watching you go through all of the items you got. So fun!
As an Irishman I apologise on behalf of Aer Lingus and our country for breaking your Glickenhaus 😂 I went to Le Mans in 2019 and it was brilliant, can relate to pretty much all of what you said here. I got the big Toyota Gazoo Racing flag too and they even gave me a telescopic pole to wave it around on haha. My dad and I both managed to catch a Motul t-shirt from the t-shirt cannon while sitting in the Motul grandstand. These small things and the stories that come with them are always nice to take home as souvenirs (which is the French word for memory🙃) and will help us remember the race forever. Glad you enjoyed yourself as a fan! Michael.
I'm mostly an indycar fan but I saw the LeMans 24hrs and really, really got into it and it was amazing!!! Wow. Honestly, it was incredible and very happy to enjoy both IMSA and WEC.
Glad you’re back Land👍. You deserved to be a fan and enjoy your trip. Especially with what your channel provided us the month of May at IMS. It was weird not seeing you have a video for Detroit ha. We have Road America coming up, get ready bro 💪🏎️🏁🇺🇸Welcome home!
Dave, a great take on Le Mans. You twice mentioned my favourite car ever, the WM Peugeot, driven in the great, extremely brave, Roger Dorchy, who is 80 this year. The car usually only lasted a couple of hours, and it's whole reason for existence, was to hold the fastest speed down the Mulsanne. It wasn't built to win, or last, just to go very, very fast.
I was born on the night of the tragic accident where 83 people were killed on 11 June 1955 in San Francisco, California USA. So, in many ways, I was born in Le Mans, France which was the country of my father Victor who emigrated from France to USA in an unknown year. I hope to visit Le Mans, which was, from my way of thinking, my "Spirtual" place of birth as opposed to where I actually was born, San Francisco CA. My parents are now long dead and most of my family now lives in South America rather than anywhere in the USA. So, in many ways, I feel a stronger connection to France than I do to the USA.
I'm glad you got to visit Rouen-les Essarts D! Gurney won in '62 & '64 there, so it's cool to hear about another American enthusiast going back. I took a chunk of the curbing at Noveau Monde Hairpin when I went in '06 on my Le Mans trip. We also went to Reims-Gueux. They were about a year or so into refurbishing the grandstands and paddock complex at the time. I believe they're doing a historic weekend there similar to Goodwood.
Thank you for telling us about your awesome trip! Sounded like an experience of a lifetime. I really enjoyed you talking through the inside story of the event and all of the special items you brought back with you.
Oh man that swag. Went to the Zolder 24 many moons ago, and was involved with a company that sponsored a lower class car, it was in the garage a lot and didn't do too well, but the whole experience was something else, nothing like the start of a 24H race. Zolder was nuts, Belcar had some wild entries in that 24H that year. Makes me sad that they are getting rid of GTE. I agree with Hindhaugh, Why are they going GT3, they need at least 3 classes at Le Mans, really. I'm all or the pro/am split honestly, and GTE did that nicely. I never got a clear answer why they ditched GTE Pro this year
Hey Mitchell and Logan! It's Father's Day, and I'd noticed your post about Thunderboats. I'm a gearhead, but like your tour guide, I also loved boats! Water skiing, tubing etc was a great way to cool off on hot Idaho summer days! Of course the concept of hot rodding is a natural for fast boating! There is a divide, however between piston power and turbine power. The development of the jet has brought speed to new levels, but a big part of the racing experience is the sound! Did you see the Garage 56 ZL1 Camaro at Le Mans? That car drew huge crowds from to the race just because of it's Nascar heritage, the jumbo size, and the fact that it sounded like two of any other car! Ever heard of the Novi Indycar? It was similarly loud (supercharged V8!), compared to the 4cyl Offenhauser that was prevalent at Indy in the late 50s. So, there are whoosh boats (no piston engine) and the sound isn't visceral like a funny car or blown fuel hydroplane! Acquaint yourself with a v-drive boat. High output piston engine, in a flatbottom hull design. Works the same as skipping a rock across the water! The advent of wakeboarding sort of screwed up the smooth water desired for fast flatbottom boats. But I sure enjoyed my flatbottom lake boat from the 70s until the early 2000s when the water just got too rough to enjoy. The v-drive propulsion system allowed the engine to be at the rear of the hull. The driver/passengers didn't have to sit around in front or behind the engine. The connection between hot rod boats and Nascar began after WWII, when all the soldiers came home. They needed to tinker on a car or boat or airplane! Because he who has the most toys wins! Think Rick Hendrick. Where did he start? Boat racing! Love your channel! And need to look for your Rottler post next!😂
Glad you had a good time. Don’t worry about explaining why you didn’t film everything. Your a fan too. That’s why you chose to start a RUclips channel and do this so you could follow your passion. I think media forget that they started out as race fans because they are so involved in media and feel like they have to post or film or write about everything. They should do what you did once in a while. Keep up the good work as always.
Really cool you came across the pond to have a good look at not only Le Mans, but kudos for going over to Rouen. Well worth a look and appreciation of something lost to time. What really struck me was you discovering the Bande Dessinée. It is way popular in Belgium. I have been over to Daytona, Mosport and Toronto and it never occurred to me that you nothing like it there. You want a couple more then gimme a shout. Over in Belgium all the time but you would have to be able to read French. The Steve Warson Indianapolis stories by Jean Graton are very cool.
Tram lines were so long at 2 in the morning at the race that my dad and I found the drive thru kfc on the mulsanne. There was a second floor outdoor deck that we found to watch over the track. Only time we were alone that whole entire weekend and what an experience it was seeing the cars go full gas through the kink, glad you got a good experience as a fan also!
I'm like 3 minutes in, but I just wanted to say that your experience as a fan was equally exciting! Still neat for a random 22 year old Canadian dude who doesn't have a budget to do these things 🤣
Glad you got to LeMans.... enjoyed your commentary of just being a motor enthusiast... as a kid growing up in the 50s, I always fantasized about that track and for the three years I was stationed in Europe went to the pre-chicane track every year, so after a (time displaced) fashion I understand your enthusiasm...
Had to laugh about the comment about French class, I also took two years of French, and it took all of two minutes to realize I was lost when it came to speaking French when I made my first trip to France in April.
You should definitely try and read the older Michelle Vaillant comics. Michel goes all over the world to race in some of the most famous motorsports events and there are also some fun fictionnal stories. Maybe there are english translations you can find somewhere.
As a motorsports writer for 10 years, I had to stop because I began dreading race day. When that happens, you need to re-evaluate if making your passion a job was the correct idea. For me it was not...Also, performance aside, that Vanwall design is absolutely beautiful. I'd almost like a street legal version of that in the vein of the road legal Porsche 962...
Glad to hear you had an amazing experiance :D. Le mas is on the list (as is indycar) to do. Next time you should pop over to the UK and do a BTCC race. YOu'd love it
The vanwall was depressing lol. Everytime the cars passed the vanwall fell seconds back. Haha good to see you like the orangina!! I'm not french, but I've lived here my whole life. This was my second race, I was a bit disappointed I didn't run into you. If you come again you should visit the Reims GP circuit. It's like Rouen, but the grandstand and pitlane is still fully intact. It's an incredible place. Also vaillant is great because the comics sponsored some of the LMP2 cars to run the fictional team's livery, which is just great marketing. (Also I hope the Toyotas and Ferraris think about running IMSA)
Great video - really enjoyed watching your videos develop over the years into your full time career. Definitely one of those things to experience as a fan, you should come attend Goodwood Festival of Speed next - I'm always looking for another motorsport fan to come with me!
Peace be with you🙂 Very nice story. Thank you for sharing. I love to travel, and have been to France although I haven't been to Le Mans. The French People are lovely. As is France. Viva La France!
So happy for you !!!! I've been to Paris, London, Rome and Amsterdam !!! So glad you went simply as a fan, and you were sooo rewarded with Ferrari winning and our Garage 56 doing so well !!!! How was your flight on the plane . . . (here in NYC all Europe flights are overnight from JFK: always so excited I never sleep on the way over.) and once you leave the gate (say 9pm) your flight [like mine] could be 15th in line to take off!!!! Wheels up 90 minutes later !! And how was customs . . .and going thru security? GREAT VID. (like #736 . . am already subbed.)
24H of Lemans is on my bucket list, I want to take my son when he’s a little older. Nothing has made me want to go (save the race itself) more than this video. Thanks! Ps: Ferrari merch is always insane, I may have bought a hoodie at the USGP and it may have cost nearly $200 😂
About jinxing drivers by asking for their autograph... I remember just before the Camel Continental at Watkins Glen in 1991, I shook hands with Tom Kendall and wished him luck. Not that THAT was the reason he had a horrendous wreck in the race (one of the crashes that led to the inner loop just before turn 5), but I haven't wished anybody luck since then.
I used to pop over the channel with friends to watch Le Mans in the 80’s and 90’s, great times. Oh and with oringina don’t forget to turn the bottle upside down before opening to shake it
Great video about Le Mans and all that merch man. Ooof on the damage on big boi spark. I would have sent via post that diecast instead of airplane. But yea super glue would do
At Sonoma for GT America, there was a Porsche corral that had those flags zip tied to the fences. They weren’t selling them but I really wanted one. So I pulled some out from my friends and I. Great fun!
I really hope that Glickenhaus stays around, they’ve proven that they can fight with the factory teams and they’ve seemed to fox most of the reliability problems with their car
Competing in hypercar is just too much for a team like that and I fear it'll just run them dry, especially as even more manufacturers will arrive. I'd suggest they are better of focusing on the GT3 project (a tough enough challenge anyway).
@@Sp4mMe I think a one car programme would help them, half the expense and keep them around for a while longer, but i dont think any customer cars are going to be sold
Saddest thing is that they really run out of budget especially without many sponsors and lack of performance. I'm not sure they can get other manufacturer support
The episode was as long as a Le Mans safety car period, but was interesting and entertaining. I've watched Le Mans for decades and love it despite BOP rendering the competition side irrelevant but has made it more financially successful so that's a thing.
I'm expecting David to show up on Radio Le Mans in the coming years. Also the only things I learned in my French class in high school was asking what time it was, and ordering cheese sandwiches and coffee. German class was bacon and beer. Says a lot about the two nations :P That being said, I was so wanting the Iron Dames to get a podium. Best LM24 in quite a while, 24 hours of absolutely great racing, Leclerc filming and the Ferrari not starting at the very last pit stop, the wtf crash ith Nakajima, the erraris were bloody quick and hadn't shown that consistently all WEC season...and Radio le Mans on top of it all.
I also have the 2021 Glickenhaus #708. Had my name on each year of that car so I had to have a 1/18 in my collection. Hopefully it isn't their last race, but also no matter what is said about that team, they did a lot with a little and have had a 100% finish rate with no major accidents or mechanical failures over 3 years. That's deserves a cheers.
@DavidLand91 I really enjoy your channel and appreciate your perspective. BTW, traveling to Indy Indy after the 4th of July. Stopping by the IMS racetrack, what are the must-dos while we are there?
That sure is a lot of merch! From my understanding Michel Vaillant is essentially France's equivalent to Speed Racer. The Rebellion team used to run an LMP2 with Vaillant branding to mimic the team in the comic & cartoon, similar to how you occasionally see Mach 5 liveries in real life. Would be cool to see that return one day, but sad that Rebellion aren't around in sportscar racing anymore
It's clear that you had a great time at Le Mans. Many, many thanks for showing us proles the result of your shopping/freebie spree. Of particular interest to me are the graphic novels - it is blatantly obvious that Europeans, especially the French, do comic books PROPERLY. And boy do they look terrific. Looking at that Michel Vaillant English-language comic, it seems that the publisher is Cinebook. They bloody kept that quiet - I have an e-mail newsletter from them every month, and there was no mention about this at all from the notifications I received. In all seriousness, though, I recommend their products very highly. Once again, many thanks for posting. This commenter truly is not worthy.
Cool video, thanks for this coverage. I'm planning on going in 2025, are you going to make a logistics video? I'm trying to figure out where to stay, what events are 'must do', etc.
It's strange how BOP is such a big topic this year, it was in GT for many years and no-one really complained much, of course the fastest gets slowed down, that's sort of the point.
Awesome trip. I had planned to go but pushed back to 2024 or 25 with 3 or 4 more brands joining. If don't make next year them definitely heading back to COTA for WEC race. Hopefully IMSA joins them again for double header. Bummer you won't be at RA this weekend but i will be and expect to see new track record in Qualifying.
I know hindsight is 20/20, but couldn't you have taken your 1/18 Glickehaus to a nearby FedEX/UPS/post office/etc to have it properly packed and shipped to your home in Indy before you left France?
As a French you're pretty much my go to, to get updates on IMSA and Indycar so I'm really happy that you get to experience French motorsport culture ! Also in one of the recent entries Michel Vaillant was testing an IR18, implying that the team Vaillante will race in IndyCar in one of the next comic book !

Nice, hoping (and expecting) the racing to be good round there this year
I work for the Chicago libraries and am glad to say there are plenty of racing books for kids made in the last few years.
Bump for some titles in your library system.
It has so cool meet you and tour friend Steven! My mate Mario was absolutely surprised listening your voice when we was hanging around the Peugeot stand haha!
Greetings from Barcelona! What a experience!
Greatest haul video I’ve seen on RUclips. 40 mins almost wasn’t enough.
A+ storytelling
That last Ferrari pit stop made me so nervous…
Heart attack material. Especially with Radio Le Mans coverage :D
I was having traumatic flashbacks of the typical Ferrari F1 luck. Then they remembered they aren't the F1 team, and things worked out. The F1 team needs to poach some AF Corse team members.
I almost couldn't believe it. That pit stop was something that you would write in a movie. INSANE!!!!

Glad you took a sled-love vacation, David. Your coverage in the month of May was excellent and I look forward to the content to come!
In this video: The centennial race of the 24-Hours of Le Mans show-and-tell with David. I'm jealous - Le Mans is my bucket list!
Couple of my old local fellow racers I raced with from the 70s, Ron Fellows and Scott Goodyear did well at Le Mans... Glad you had a great time!

Great recap of your vacation and the Le Mans experience. Gonna do it one day for sure!!
Great fun!
So happy for you dude!
@@趙祖睿 I wouldn’t really say a lack of performance especially compared to their budget
I’m glad you had a great time
I did miss you!

I’m pretty sure they sell oringina in the United States. Glad you had a good time on your trip. Looked fun.
The episode was as long as a Le Mans safety car period, but was interesting and entertaining. I've watched Le Mans for decades and love it despite BOP rendering the competition side irrelevant but has made it more financially successful so that's a thing.
Oh man, lucky you Dave.. I was thinking of going too but it was sold out. Nothing compares to the LeMan 24 its the biggest race on the planet.
Really like the more “unprofessional” types of videos every now and then. Reminds me a lot of the 2017 Dover trip video.
Those French books are insane!!!
I went in 2015. Had fun. Might go back one day.
Holy shit, you got two copies of Championship Formula Racing!!! I love that game. Sadly "normal" people can't appreciate how great it is.
I'm expecting David to show up on Radio Le Mans in the coming years. Also the only things I learned in my French class in high school was asking what time it was, and ordering cheese sandwiches and coffee. German class was bacon and beer. Says a lot about the two nations :P
That being said, I was so wanting the Iron Dames to get a podium.
Well done David.
US doesnt have comic books like those because i guess including adults, live a bit more in reality. having said this michel vaillant is iconic
Detroit was a great race, but I really missed your coverage!
Belle Isle is better. Detroit roads are for dump trucks.
That’s the way to take a vacation, Dave. Always look forward to your reporting, but you absolutely should take time off.
Bienvenue à la maison, David!
All the comic books are so cool!
Glad you could do something so cool. 😊
As a comic nerd... Man, I need those books!
I think Porsche Penske Motorsports hats are in the US. I got one at the Grand Prix in Alabama
Good 4 u
Living the dream 👍
I know hindsight is 20/20, but couldn't you have taken your 1/18 Glickehaus to a nearby FedEX/UPS/post office/etc to have it properly packed and shipped to your home in Indy before you left France?
Nothing in racing is comparable to Le Mans come on 😂
Orangina is awesome!
