We did for a long time. The last few years, however, we have had them respectfully cremated and they are then put inside our memorial wall, commemorated with beautiful plaques.
It's a shame that cross-breeding makes such horrible health issues. Freckles is beautiful, and I love her spotted nose. I wish she'd had a chance to live wild, even if her "species" would almost never happen there.
Razzlewolfflight eh that wouldn't be a good idea... they'd survive but Ligers have no natural predators so they would completely mess up the eco system if introduced to the wild which is why if one is made they HAVE to be kept in a zoo or some kind of enclosure
@@imgonnawin555 that is nature. That is the circle of life. When we kidnap these animals from their homes and then breed them into terrible conditions it is not nature. We are confining them to a life they are not made for

We're so happy that we could rescue her from the filthy conditions in Mississippi and give her grass to roll around in and a great diet, thank you for your support, with out people like you we couldn't keep doing what we do :)

If I lived within 100km of Big Cat Rescue, I know I could not go more than 4 weeks without volunteering for a few hours a day at least. Biologically it's fascinating. And ethically, the best practice on display here is simply inspiring. If you live near it - but aren't helping out - why not? :)
I knew of that place in Mississippi. It was about 15-20 minutes from my hometown in the neighboring county. At one point in time it was doing well and just went downhill. When I was in high school I worked at the vet clinic in that town from 2003-05. one of the vets would go out there from time to time to treat the cats.
Was Joseph chuffing? I didn't know lions did that. Do they do it for the same reason as tigers? I didn't see him interacting with anyone. Also, rest in peace, Freckles. I hope there are a lot of chicken legs in liger Heaven. (And no ligers in chicken Heaven.)
Vatolicious the thing about breeding these cats to create hybrids is the breeds have been so selective for so long that interbreeding is out right bad for the species. in addition to the genetic and health problems created, the new hybrids lack certain characteristics necessary to survive in the wild, so these animals will have to live in captivity for their entire lives... ignoring the medical implications, these animals are not built to live in cages, even 3 acre cages. The psychological implications are just terrible for these animals. the only way to relieve the psychological damage is through domestication... At this point there are not many animals that we have genetically modified to suit co-habitation (IE: domestication). So far we (humans) have only fully domesticated ONE breed of animal (grey wolves were domesticated over the course of 10000 years to create modern dogs) the second and third domestication efforts are still underway (cats are only partially domesticated, they still lack some of the "human dependancy" qualities dogs presently posess, though they are close. the third domestication project is being "fast tracked" which is the russian silver fox domestication experiment. but the domesticated silver foxes are only in the initial phases of the process and will likely take another few centuries to merely catch up with house cats). all other animals, even those we call "domesticated" like rodents and livestock, are NOT domesticated properly and thus will suffer psychological damage in captivity. Now if someone were to dedicate billions of dollars to a proper domestication effort much like the Russians are doing with silver foxes, then MAYBE in a few hundred years a domestic breed of tiger or lion would be generated that could live in captivity without the psychological trauma of being caged. but even then, a domesticated hybrid liger would STILL suffer from the physical and genetic damage of cross breeding. so in short, this is all really bad joojoo for the liger.
God bless Freckles, all of the other Big Cats & all of you there... it is thanks to people like you that these big cats have a chance at a more normal and happier, healthier way of life! I'm so happy that Freckles is doing better and hope she continues to thrive!!

+pyroneutral A combination of species and age. Ligers have a low appearing "stomach-line" and also cats have not the same kind of connective tissue like humans as their skin seems always more flabby even at younger ages.
Ligers actually do happen, albeit rarely, in the wild. They just generally die very young, and if they do happen to make it to adulthood it doesn't matter much as they're infertile. Of course, this is only true in parts of Asia where they still have Asiatic lions. Ligers bred from tigers and African lions don't happen.
thank you and all your wonderful staff that not only aim to entertain but also educate us about the wonderful cats that call your rescue home !! I hope that the animals know how truly blessed they are to be in such a caring environment.....Cyn :O)
Nice to see that somebody cares, i saved a cat about a year ago (normal cat) he was really malnurished and now, he's the best one could ever wish for, always sleep right next to me at night, watch me sit by the computer and stuff, really really loving.
Why the heck this liger doesn't have teeths I swear I literally have a high quality in I can literally see this liger have no teeths how can he eat meats ?
This video explains about our theory for why she does not have canine teeth. Other than that, she had no problem eating meat and still could chew through bones because big cats do not use their canine teeth for eating. They only use them to kill their prey.
Big Cat Rescue oh ok I didn't know thet big cats don't need to use there teeths to chew but I didn't know they use there teeths to hunt ok that's a new thing I learned from big cat.. Oh wait there is a lot of things I learned about big cats but this.. This is new thing I learned from big cat for real I never knew big cat don't need to use there teeth to chew but I learn they only use them to hunt so thx for letting me realize this liger don't need teeth
Werewolf johny* W12MD* canines are the front teeth on each side. The teeth left in the back are enough to eat meat. Freckles was kept in a chain link enclosure and she chewed on it until her teeth broke.
Well, thank you! There are a lot of things you can do to help without money. Go to BigCatRescue. org and click on the navigation menu item "Get Involved". Also, sharing our videos on your Twitter and Facebook accounts really helps.
How can anyone suggest there could be such a thing as a liger not humanmade? Lions live on the African continent and tigers live in the Asian continent. They meet only when we humans makes them and the offsprings are not suited for either habitat since lions are living and hunting in groups and a tiger must be able to do all hunting by itself in the wild. That is why there is no white tigers in the wild either, the ones who are born white due to a genetic mutation dies as cubs since they can't hunt! Their white colour makes them all too visible in the dark green djungle where they live and no prey is fooled by it!
Lord Fabulous If orange does not work as camo why are tigers still orange? No it is mutt tigers forced to live in the same cage as their sibling for a very small chance at a healthy white mutt tiger. there is not pure Bengals living in these backyards and unaccredited road side zoos.
I think that breeding tigers and lions together is cruel but I just want to point out that there are lions living in asia as well as africa. They are (I think) a subspecies of the african lion.
John Cena from what I remember, much of a tigers prey don't have that good of colour vision. The orange and black mimic the sun filtering through the foliage, making it hard for the prey to determine if it's actually light or an animal
I in no way condone the interbreeding of the lion and tiger, but I do think the ligers look beautiful. Please understand that I'm not saying in anyway that they should exist.
Think about it though, through selective breeding and many years, the birth defects and problems with these animals would be sorted out. Humans would have created an entirely new species, giving back to the world not taking away.
But what good would it do? They're not a naturally occurring animal and could just make things worse in the wild if they were to be released and I don't think it's right to breed them just for show.
Tasoq why does it matter if they are naturally occurring. all things you use in your daily lives didn't naturally occur but yet you have no problem with them. your pet animals weren't naturally occurring they were selectively bred to domesticate them and yet you have no problem keeping them around.this is just another form of evolution just sped up via humans.
Tasoq i can respect that, but im a strong believer in genetic manipulation and selective breeding so i see nothing wrong with this, what i cant condone is the killing and using of big cats and exotic animals for personal gain, like zoos and circuses.
this cat has better health care than i do
+nathan cotter amen to that, said the same thing.
he's a bit more majestic than you, in all fairness
Well if you don't mind your house to be destroyed and put in cage for the rest of your life, you can keep being envious to that animal.
Why do people assume animals sense of freedom is as complex as humans?
nathan cotter well, she passed away 2 months after this video :/
The fact that the liger lived so long shows that big cat rescue takes good care of their cats
Yeah, despite what a certain money hungry reality show pretending to be a documentary says.
We did for a long time. The last few years, however, we have had them respectfully cremated and they are then put inside our memorial wall, commemorated with beautiful plaques.

Ligers can exist in the wild, although they are very rare. It's not unnatural at all. If it was, she wouldn't have been born at al.
Atleast she died peacefully. Most big cats who aren't lucky enough to be rescued die of poachers or other animals.

tigers have that stomach cuz sometimes they can eat like 50 kgs of meat in one sitting ..so it's kind of flexible stomach
I was cross bred I am merman...
Awesome! Good thing you guys are doing.
I hope you guys live a long life, maybe a thousand years old. Good job guys! Save more big cats!

This isn't right because this affects the balance of nature
It sometimes happens in nature...
Ligers do not happen in the wild.
Well... rather this than mounted on a poachers wall... and possible early extinction...
LionManatic2048 Ligers can't go extinct. They're not a species. As long as both tigers and lions are around, a liger can not go extinct.
Big Cat Rescue but still when the big liger lost he's teeths? I'm very confused
Werewolf johny* W12MD* canines are the front teeth on each side. The teeth left in the back are enough to eat meat. Freckles was kept in a chain link enclosure and she chewed on it until her teeth broke.
We did not removed Freckles's canine teeth. Also canines are the kill teeth and not used for chewing food.
Nope, they are still very much wild and have the same instincts as tigers and lions...
shes gorgous god bless her thanks from stockport uk 😺
Their white colour makes them all too visible in the dark green djungle where they live and no prey is fooled by it!
i doubt that orange color is best camo either. and btw its bengal tigers. and they do live in the wild you know.
Lord Fabulous If orange does not work as camo why are tigers still orange? No it is mutt tigers forced to live in the same cage as their sibling for a very small chance at a healthy white mutt tiger. there is not pure Bengals living in these backyards and unaccredited road side zoos.
Lithaldatwin what part of i doubt dont you understand ? im no tiger expert
Henry Saegenschnitter Okay, fair point. But the lions and tigers are of different species and in my personal opinion, I don't think it's right.
Tasoq i can respect that, but im a strong believer in genetic manipulation and selective breeding so i see nothing wrong with this, what i cant condone is the killing and using of big cats and exotic animals for personal gain, like zoos and circuses.
Exactly and she was the oldest living liger that we knew of.
Bless the beasts and children,,,,well looks like your taking care of the beasts,,,so,, Bless you !!!!
