- The open screens, menus, and gameplay footage of Destruction Derby for the Sony Playstation video game system. The car icon on the right hand side show the condition of the player's car. The icons shift from green to yellow to red as the car becomes damaged. White smoke/steam indicates the car's radiator is blown and the car is close to being out of commission. Black smoke means the car is out commission. As the car become damaged, it becomes harder to control the car, which explains why I'm traveling mostly in circles in the end.
It is hard to believe nowadays, but this was super hot game when it came out...real time 3D destructible models were pretty much unheard of prior to this in console games.
Remember playing this back in 1995, and nearly shitting myself at how good the graphics were!
Oh yes, this was a great game, had hrs of fun!
and the damage modelling!
worldaccordingtodunk Graphics were really great especially for that time.
frankie xrcist And the Crt TVs back then made the graphics even look better than they really were. On modern flatscreens they look outdated now.
worldaccordingtodunk same
my childhood was a series of J turns , driving backwards and "wow what a smash" commentary
right there with ya brother
But why did they never make newer versions someone must of bought the rights then burried it.
Played this constantly in 95, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, 20 cars at the same time, all with damage physics.
I wonder how much helped with the non-existent vertical movement.
We were really living back then,it was all new and wonderful
@@_SereneMango all racing sims were like that at the time. Nascar racing had been out without any vertical movement of the vehicles, though it had 3d tracks.
And the fps
then carmageddon came along and thrasherd it
I'm still playing it in 2024 !! I was 6 in 1995, now i'm a 35 years old dad. Amazing how time flies... Great game. Great memories.
Ah yes, the old trick of driving backwards to stop your radiator being killed.
I thought DD1 was amazing.
one of the beste games ive ever played in my life.
A underrated gem of the PS1 era. This game was amazing. Probably one of the first PS1 games I owned.
This is and always will be my favourite ps1 game love it so much
This and twisted metal were amazing. Brings back memories.
Saw a review of this game in a kids show back in 95/96 and i remember i was totally blown away at the graphics. At the time to go from a SNES to this was a giant leap.
I actually thought to myself " how is this possible? Its like in real life" lol XD
Scrootumm lol. me too. i was mind blown at how damage was possible. awesome time to have lived.
I still piss myself laughing about the speech glitch when me and my mates were playing this 16 years ago "Wow, what a YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!!"
Memories, I was 14 then.
this brings back some memories!!
I cannot get over how awesome I thought this game was. I remember playing with my cousin and him saying how real it looked. Lol I was in 5th grade.
no other games will ever come close to this classic. Midtown madness 2 for xbox is also a very great game. But they don't have it for 360 yet..
Ahh the sweet sweet memories.
This and Twisted Metal.
reminds me of good ols times!!! thx 4 upload
ah when games didnt have dlc or in game purchases or preorder bonuses
+Dark Limits i miss it!
Those were the days! They've screwed over gaming now by not releasing the full game but making you buy certain stuff for money.....I really miss the PS1 and PS2 days.....Early PS3 was good too but it's gone down since then.
Kakarot I miss the PS1 and PS2 days as well. It's a darn shame they've started the whole pay money for the full game crap and the whole DLC thing :(
@@LarryKoopaFanatic Just do what I do. Go back in time. Thousands of great games on Ps1, ps2, n64, xbox, gamecube, wii and Snes, nes, megadrive and so on. I collect old consoles but you can get around it with rasperry emulation devices. And on PC you have GoG (like steam but focus on old classic games instead of modern AA-titles) There I have SoF, Warcraft 2 Diablo and Carmageddon 1 and 2 and so on. All win 10 compatible. Thousands of games...and they've gone from "old and ugly" to reawakened and charming as I grow older. We don't have to suffer. And I buy modern games years after release. Because only then do you get the finished "GoT/definitive" edition with all content, that has been patched and fixed. And your wallet stays un-raped. Patience is key. Have a great day!
Björn Blomkvist i tried doing that but then you gotta buy a bootleg controller that’ll last you a good 2 months
10 year old me playing this in 96. Freaking loved this game. Kudos to the producers. And thank you for my love of techno! I never knew it originated from this game!
It didn't originate from the game?
@@lifeevent88 his love for it did
Destruction Derby Should Deserve A Live-Action Movie.
Battle Royale
The amount of hours this has filled my childhood. Insane.
I miss this game
Buy wreckfest thats really good game and reminds me of this
I played the hell out of this game!! Thanks for the memories.
just saw a game called wreckfest on steam, brought back my DD childhood memories, i was 6 when i played this lol
Just got wreckfest on ps4. I couldn't have asked for more, love it.
@@paulmidgley4807 I second that! Ran across it the other day in Gamestop, never even heard of it, had a gift card just looking for something different than the games I already own. Needless to say, bought it and went home to play it, I have been playing for 4 hours now and can't put it down
Its still gets me every time when the game says get outa my way.
I played the hell out of this game. I wish they would make a new destruction derby for the playstation 4
Wreckfest 😉
@@Guitou54 I'm hyped for Wreckfest, it's currently the closest thing we're going to get to another Destruction Derby game, the downside however is that they've changed the release date recently from November 20th 2018 to May 31st 2019. What a load of bollocks.
Me and my brothers kicked lots of ass in this game when I was a kid.
I bought this, wipeout and toshenden with my ps1 all those years ago. Was utterly blown away. A monumental leap from my sega mega drive
Ahhhh..... childhood memories
Man oh man, this game takes me back. Good times.
I remember demolition derby
Oh wow....great memories...
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and upload it. Your absolutely right.....being one of the first games out on the Playstation, its graphics, physics and gameplay were cutting edge. I had many hours of fun, playing with my dad and friends to see who could last the longest hahhaha
Cheers
I used to love this game when PS first released. So fun.
This was the first game I ever owned for my ps1. This video brings back great memories. Thanks.
i used to looove this game play everyday
This is one of the 1st games I purchased for PS1 on Jan 1996.. when I saw Psygnosis logo then Reflections logo after it, I believed it to be great game since (Psygnosis & Reflections) were also the same binary team who created Amiga hit (Shadow of the Beast).. As well as me belief that Psygnosis was the POWER behind Amiga !
"I want a remake with the same physics and the strategy."
Same here.
When I was young I used to play this game every time that I got in from school.
Now flatout and burnout are the new winners of destruction.
But still it's a great game.
Wow, a comment from 12 years ago. Now Flatout and Burnout are kind of dead, but now we have Wreckfest.
@@FRmapple Indeed how times have changed! How time flies.
Shame about FO and BO, good times but oh well.
I remember playing this game non stop on a ps1 demon disc I got from Playstation Magazine. It was so much fun.
Pretty sure this was the first PS game I played. The jump from
Sega to this was insane. I remember being blown away. This was an experience.
This brings back some memories... Good old Windows 95.
Destruction derby
Cruisin USA
Need for speed high stakes
Mario kart
If your a 90s kid, you’ll understand!
This game was such a crazy one. Good old days.
Damn brings back memories, i was lucky to own a ps one back in 96 in the uk when they shiped here, this game came on a demo disc and wow i fell in love with it!!
Steping up from a snes lol the gfx were amazing at the time better than dd2 and raw. Used to hide behind cars in the ring when the radiator blew lol.
Never got the monkey to appear tho for spining X amount of people in a 360 spin.. did anyone else?!
I LOVED THIS GAME! Use to play this for HOURS on end. The new game on the PS5 Destruction Allstars to me is next gen version on this, also a great game, which is what brought me back to this
That game was SOFA KING good. HOURS of my life sucked in.
The sequel was such a fekking let down.
Number 2 was good but raw sucked
Agree with you 100% DD2 sucked this one was one of my faves.
To the haters you must be gingers you have no souls
why u guys say RAW sucked? it was the only one I had and I think it was awesome... good design aswell
Haider Khan that’s your opinion and experience. To me it’s better.
One of the best games ever! Thanks for the video!
this game still looks pretty damn good. the damage models etc.
Just bought this for the ps1 for £5.60 off eBay 👍🏻, thought it's an absolute bargain. getting 'Wipe out' next.
Wipe Out was so much better. Killer app!
It's weird even though I always felt like the cars were more like toys than real ones I loved playing this game. The physics the graphics hell even the music were so appealing. This is why this game is a true PS1 classic and pretty much 90% of the other ps1 games on PSN are not.
I used to play this for hours on end every single day. Once my car was flashing all over, I'd drive around the outside of the ring and get the other cars to write themselves off trying to catch me 😂
Amazing how a game from the 90s has better AI than the $100 million production that is call of duty, where every AI player tries to kill you, and only you. Love this game and the soundtrack will stay with me forever.
I would get up an hour early for school to play this and it is a feat I have never managed to replicate for a game for the 20 odd years that have followed
This game was awesome I grew up playing it on every console I had till ps4
First PS game I ever played on the demo disc way back in December 1995. After a lifetime of side-scrolling platforners on my old megadrive, this changed everything. Fuck the noughties, the 90s kicked arse.
My friend had a demo disc. We would play the shit out of this game. We'd always back the fucking car into everything until everything was dead. Great memories.
I can't wait for the spiritual successor to this game, Destruction Allstars. Which is like Destruction Derby met Rocket League and Fortnite. It looks really good and I can't wait for it to come out.
If you're here from that trailer than thumbs up.
Ah I remember playing this game on rainy sunday afternoons as a kid, great memories!
Love the song when your in the bowl even searched for it and play it in my car lol
I played this game non stop everyday for months! loved it!
“!Damage!” I believe was the password to enter for invincibility. Played this so much back in the day and the 2nd one was superb, too!
I really loved this game along with Twisted Metal, Interstate '76, & Daytona U.S.A. as stand outs in the vehicle simulation category.
I vaguely remember all the racers had names too, I remember as a kid constantly ending up in a rivalry with The Taxman (Green and Orange with a Black top)
This game and "Jarret and Labonte Stock Car Racing" got me into vehicles. I love cars.
good graphics for the time and well playable.
A classic.
"Beginner's luck, FLUKE!"
I loved that one, it has to be my favorite. Right up there with Arenas.
love thy neighbor wreck his car - Gamepro ad for this game~ i'm so old.
Omg,flash back triggered!
This was my favourite Game on the PS1... Good old Days.
My fovorite aspect by far was the drivers having their own personalities, or for the more technical, different AI scripts. So few games do that. I loved Twisted Metal 2 for giving the drivers different AI scripts. The other DDs threw this out. Never played DD arenas.
used to kick back n play dis wid my homie. Good ol days brother :)
loved this game as a kid. i still have vivid memories of that fucking car in black and the other one violet/yellow, they were my nemesis lol
Addicted playing a demo of it in 1997 but never picked the game up sadly. I was too busy with the Capcom and SNK fighting game at the time.
still remeber playing this as a kid and 2, i still play 2 but i think this is the best of the entire seris
They say video games do not kill people, but I played 28 hours of 360 destruction derby where the object is to t bone people at 90 degrees, and I almost swerved at a guy pulling out of a side street. LOL
Video brings back sooo many memories. Thank you!
Have you played Eve of Destruction/Driven to destruction (same game, different name depending on where you live) for PS2 or Demolition Racer for PS1? They're great games.
the arena mode was awesome :D
Thats amazing, ppl like me rly living in here... what a flashback
Amazing game and gameplay still holds up to day and even better in link up and you play diffent tracks when you do championship and all so there is chat to unlock a hidden track
I had a little games in my PSX library, but this one has to be my favorite.
Lead Tester on this back at psygnosis!
We just to have a drinking game: Take a shot whenever the commentators said, “Wow!”
I played and played and played this game. For weeks, months maybe.
Detention mode sounds like some good fun.
How many cars are their in a race?
I remember being 11 and with my best friend, we spent 4 hours downloading the demo of this game with a shitty modem. When we finally got installed, we played it like 5 hours straight. Happy times.
Sometimes in the dead if night, i hear "his radiator is blowing"
Ocean Dr., Miami PS one distraction derby
i loved this game back in the day
I won’t forget this video in a hurry
I used to play this game too with my brother but he passed away :( i miss him so much :'(
the best game ever.
the most important and significant revolution in game market.
The drivers crash at each other sound like before carmageddon
Awesome game loved it from day 1 still love it now and its 15 years on
Holy shit, moments ago i watched the saturn version gameplay, and the playstation version is just as i remember - smooth lookin' :)
ah the menu music brings back good memories
im used to play this on my fathers pc
thats the first racing ish game i ever played in my life :D its still epic
Most underrated game of all time never gets a mention
that would be Carmageddon 2
Oh this takes me back...
Anybody here in 2019 after the PS4 release of Wreckfest? :)
ShapeshifteR I’m from 2020 hehe
@@Tfx20 2020 here, also just got Wreckfest
classic game, dunno why they have not remade this yet, with todays online games this would be even more fun online
Being only just turned 16 and spending £500 on a Playstation just to play this game. I remember thinking how amazing the graphics were. To be honest though, they were great for time.
