Thanks for the first day tour mate. I've always been a regular visitor to Stockport from Woodley, so I've been following the construction of the new station since it began. I can't get down till next weekend so I was looking forward to a proper look inside. My biggest concern is security, I don't want the park turning into a hangout for scrotes and dead-legs.
Every big town has its share of scrotes, Stockport is really nice now but it's not all Heatons, Cheadles and Marple but it's positives far outweigh its negatives.
Too much of the land has been used by the developers for the flats so the bus station doesn’t have enough stands. The Bramhall buses are stuck out through the arch in Mersey Square on stand P and the Cheadle Hulme on stand S outside on Swain St which is also the drop off point for passengers on other routes which is resulting in a queue of buses blocking the road waiting to drop off
It seems to be of the same general design of the Manchester Shudehill and Rochdale interchanges, although much larger - however, security wise, I would feel much safer if there were routinely and visibly armed BTP officers and armed military present to maintain order and act as a deterrent to all criminal activity
Still trying to work out what it’s actually ‘Interchanging’ with. The last tram to travel in Stockport was in 1951 with no immediate plans to make a re-appearance whilst no matter how smart it looks you still need Sherpa Tenzing to help you up the hill to the Railway Station. It’d be great if we still had a town centre station with links to London/Liverpool/Manchester…but they binned that off in 1967.
I was there last weekend its a really nice development.
thanks for comment
