[Intro]
To your soul
To your soul
Cry
Cry
Cry
[Verse 1]
You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case
Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face
[Verse 2]
Mother will never understand why you had to leave
But the answers you seek will never be found at home
The love that you need will never be found at home
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
[Verse 3]
Pushed around and kicked around, always a lonely boy
You were the one that they'd talk about around town as they put you down
[Verse 4]
And as hard as they would try they'd hurt to make you cry
But you never cried to them, just to your soul
No, you never cried to them, just to your soul
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Crying to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Crying to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Crying to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
[Bridge]
Cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
[Verse 5]
You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case
Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away

80's music was fucking good, I'll admit that.
Got that right!! Love it all like I did then. Metal rock synth new wave early punk. Its all good
Yes,I'll admit that, too, but that was the only thing good about that decade, the music

RIP Steve Bronski
Your songs have meant a lot to so many.
You sure made a difference!
Jimmy Somerville is now sole living member... Steve died, Larry Steinbachek as well...
So sad. His legacy lives on though, RIP
how did the other members die?

Regardless of sexual orientation or to what generation you're from, just about everyone should be able to appericate this gem. Just hits ya in the feels.
So true, but for anyone who broke with their family (for any other reason, not only for being queer), this song definitely hits different. And for anyone else, it is probably the closest to conveying this feeling in an audible and danceable way.
as a bisexual person i just cannot listen to this 😔 /j

No wonder why the 80s are the best, music pop was futurist and so electronic. Proud to be born in the 80s.

Can’t be described as underrated - over 280 million Spotify streams!
I think everyone needs to remember that this song isn't about GTA V or GLOW. It is about a boy from Glasgow who had to leave his city because he wasn't accepted for being gay. Thats why the song is severely relevant throughout 120bpm.

10 seconds into this and I am magically transported back to 1984, listening to this gem on the radio.
If a time machine existed, I would go back to the 80s in a heartbeat.
Who's with me ?
I'll go!
I wasn’t born yet but id still go
Take me with you!!
I was born in 96. I would love to have experienced the 80s.
I’m there brother…
This music has a hauntingly nostalgic sound to me being a kid in the 80s. My memory and the fantasies I had in my head get blended together when I hear this music and think back to that time.
I was a kid in the 2000s in a homophobic country. I have never been able to fully live my life the way I would've wanted to, without facing the consequences of being different. I cry today at 28 because even now I am that smalltown boy. I wish things were different.
@virtualbeing, same here and remembering back to my youth and recalling what was important to me back then and the things like music, that made it so much more special.
Just heard this while watching the movie “Parting Glances” from 86 and it took me right back to those years. Glad o loved those magical times in San Francisco and the world was so much different.
I really like the fact that people discovered many songs like this due to GTA. Videogames can be a wonderful source of music, just as my case - GTA SA showed me tons of amazing songs maybe 12 or 13 years ago, and now you can see me, practically obsessed with lots and lots of genres.
Haha, same here! Born in 1997, but I know a lot of old songs - thanks to my parents and GTA games :)
GTA 4 The Journey introduced me to so much.
Agreed. I credit my love of country music primarily to the hours I spent with KROSE in SA
Actually true. I played GTA Vice City Stories on psp and i fell for 80s music
almost every song i've learned on piano is from a video game ost
I was driving in GTA 5 and started listening to this song, and that's why I love Non_Stop Pop (radio station in GTA 5

This song is perfect when you live in a small town that’s depressing and you are depressed. You leave home from your parents and take a drive in your Toyota Corolla to find a better place.
At least you had a car.
@@PianoGesang underrated comment 👍
I live in a small town and I know what you mean. It can be very depressing. I live in Manchester by the Sea, Massachusetts. There's actually a movie with the same name that was filmed here. It's a nice little summer beach town but at the same time it's kinda depressing if you live here and aren't a tourist. It's just the same narrow minded people doing the same things every day. Same routine. Nothing ever changes here. Sometimes I dream about running away to LA or somewhere.
Only gays are depressed so you must be one
And 10 mins after you drive your old toyota car suddenly stops and can't be moved again so you go back to the small town and live there forever
I used to jam this when I was 16 and still jam it at age 55!
Absolutely timeless, classic, beautiful record.
Gay/straight, what does it matter, music that can can take you to a time, place, person irrespective of all else, is something to be cherished.

This song hit my ears tonight in the grocery store and took me back to the days of alt rock in the 80's. Back when the artists wrote their own music and sang about what they cared about. They put their emotions, hearts and souls into their music and I loved it. Lucky for me, there was an independent alt rock radio station just north of Cincinnati where I live. Called 97X The Future of Rock and Roll - WOXY in Oxford Ohio. Found all this greatness and never looked back!

Born in 91 and I feel way closer to the 80s generation than my own. Had older brothers, that probably helped, and a mom from Belgium who loved pop, new wave, disco, type music.

That’s cool. My moms family is of Belgian decent. All of the great 80s music is literally at the touch of a button on the Internet, you’re lucky that you can experience that. In my day we had to wait for a cassette tape to come out and you couldn’t always find it growing up in a small town. I can recall this playing in “Gotcha!”(1985) although I first originally heard it on Music choice in 2005 for the very first time! and was in awe of the sincerity and thought process. and around 7 or so years ago i saw a video filmed in Berlin..a street musician was performing this iconic track, and “Jimmy Somerville” steps rite into view and sings his heart out!!!!!!
