If I take a home pregnancy test and still see a faint line, does that mean I'm pregnant?

- A lot of women are confused when they've been suspicious of pregnancy, they take a home pregnancy test, and then see a faint line. They're wondering, "Am I really pregnant or am I not?" It all goes back to a couple of things. First of all, a home pregnancy test is detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, and that's a hormone that your body starts to release early in pregnancy. And levels rise exponentially and peak around 8 to 11 weeks gestation. Levels aren't high enough for a home pregnancy test to detect it until 2 weeks after conception. So the best thing to do if you suspect pregnancy is to wait until your period should start, and if it doesn't, then that's when you should take a home pregnancy test. Even then, though, women still get faintly positive results or falsely negative results, because ovulation usually happens about mid-cycle, but some women ovulate a little bit later than the norm, and that means that HCG levels might not be high enough to be detected by a home pregnancy test until a few days later.
So if the first test is faintly positive, or negative, and you still haven't started bleeding in another 3 to 5 days, take another test. Let a few days go by - I know it's hard to just put that in the back of your mind and wait, but unfortunately, that's the only thing you can do - is be patient. If you are indeed pregnant, and the HCG levels are rising appropriately, if you take another test in 5 days, it should be pretty positive and obvious. But if it's not, at that point, then call your doctor. And after asking you more specific questions, they can determine if further testing is necessary. Usually what happens at that point is they bring you into the office, you take a urine test there, or they recommend taking a blood test. A blood test is a lot more sensitive than a urine test, and it can tell you 2 things. It can tell you, "Am I pregnant?", yes or no? And then it can also tell, if you order a specific test, how high the HCG levels are. So that test is usually necessary if you started bleeding, but you knew you were pregnant in the past. That information can be helpful in determining if the pregnancy is progressing as it should.
Another reason women see faintly positive results is that they've read the test outside of the timeframe recommended by the manufacturer of the test. Most tests have an insert in them, and they'll tell you to read the test within 3 to 5 minutes. Some say 5 to 10, so that's why you should check the insert of the test you're taking. And after you've read it within that amount of time, just throw it away, and don't be tempted to look at it again, because some tests do turn faintly positive if they sit there long enough. So if you see that result 2 hours later, then you start to wonder, "Am I pregnant?", but if the initial result was negative, then either it's a false negative if you took it too early, or you just aren't pregnant. So again, the best thing to do is to wait more time, like 5 days or so, take another test, and if you're still wondering what's going on, call your doctor. Faint lines mean that test has detected hcg. Even a tiny amt... it should get darker over next couple of days if pregnancy is viable (hcg increases quick when the baby is doing well).

Sorry. In some cases if the test window says 5 minutes and 7-10 minutes later I see a line I believe that is still a positive. It happened with my last pregnancy that way. So I truly believe that's not necessarily the case always.

Update after watching this. So First test I saw no lines the later I looked at it saw a faint line. Thought nothing of it thought it was evap line. Took 2 more test extremely faint line after recommended waiting time. Later that night went and looked again on test hours later line is definitely visible but again was past recommended wait time. I just waited 3 more days took a digital test came back positive. Yep am preggers.
: update unfortunately I had a miscarriage. I suppose maybe that’s why the lines were so faint to begin with.

Why would a test turn positive after the recommended time? If u don’t have hcg in your urine it should never turn a color because isn’t the test only looking for hcg. Evaplines are grey and never have color just grey? So why would it change color after the time frame ?

What I learn a negative is a negative and you only gets one line. A positive is a positive no matter if the pink line faint or dark it's still a positive. My HCG is low because I'm a high risk pregnant person so if the test get some of my HCG levels and it came back faint line and can see it clear means you pregnant. I agree it should never changes color if it's no HCG levels. I been told not to followup some of the internet because it came get you bit confused. I have three grown kids took a pregnancy test with all of them. The two came up negative with a clear blue test but find out I was pregnant but my HCG was level was low. With my last son took a cheap test that came up a faint line and I was pregnant. 19 years with tubes tied with all the pregnancy symptoms missed period over three months will be four months next week. I'm not stress or nothing. Took a first response test I got a very clear faint line mind you my HCG levels is always going to be low. I took another one Monday morning and that came up a very fainty line. I'm feeling movement in my stomach and kicks. I should know if I'm pregnant because I been pregnant three times. What I don't get is this lady wrong. If you not pregnant period it will only be just that one line and it's no matter how long you leave the pregnancy test that negative will still be there with no other line or other colors trust I try that myself years ago and it never changes.
@@cece5705 thank you bc I needed to hear this. I took 2 pregnancy test and it was positive(very faint lines) But the thing was, it took about 10 mins for both of them to say positive. I was skeptical about it because the results didn't show up within 3mins (like the box says)
@@Rockeybih18 Girl, I'm glad she told her story because I am in the same boat. I recently took a clear blue test and saw a faint line come up within the time frame. Then I waited like a day or two and took another one and still, a faint line came up again within the time frame. I also took a cheapie and a faint line showed up too. So I'm confused. I would be 4 weeks and 6 days today. Maybe my HCG levels are really low. Plus it's weird that I would even be pregnant because I tracked my ovulation, and he pulled out! It's strange.
@@Rockeybih18 Also, some test you can wait up to the 10 min mark I think. After 10 mins it would be considered invalid.
I've gotten 2 faint lines on my tests. The test said not to read after 10 minutes but the lines appeared around 5-6 minutes not 3. I've had 3 other people look at them and we all agree they look faint but blue not grey. Anyone else have this happen?

It’s best to test with first morning urine because it had the most concentration of HCG. Later in the day HCG concentration is lower & less likely to be detected.

And when i follow up my ultra sound same as usual no heartbeat but the baby turn in 6week and they saw is gestational sac only. I had an IUD placed January 30th, 2017. I had intercourse February 15. I'm having all the symptoms of pregnancy and took 3 tests on the same day and they all had a faint line in the result window. However, I'm still bleeding from the IUD insertion. Is it possible that I am pregnant even though I'm still bleeding from the IUD as well as is it possible that the IUD was not working yet at the time I had intercourse?

I’ve taken numerous tests this month since I missed my period (which is like 21 days late) and they are all consistently faint. Not darker not lighter, but pretty hard to see. Hi Stephanie Miskowicz Lhila , I wanted to say my cycle was do on 7th - 14 no cycle no period . I am not any birth control I am not cholmide . I did have on 4 and 5 bledding started off pink with spots and 1day half and stopped. I woke up the 7th expecting a period I waited the full seven days no Period. I have spent over 80 dollars in Pregancy tests . An The reason do fact of the faint lines . An had he faint lines checked by a private Obgyn online who confirmed Pregancy. An said if they were evaporated lines they would not be pin straight. An would not be so straight and identical to the C Control line . I took first response test Pregancy as directed. Instructions first reading the insert and when you are ready to perform the test . Remove the test stick from the pink foil wrapper and take off overcap . Choose which way under Urine or in a dry cup. I chose in a dry cup I collected my urine in a clean cup and immerse the entire Absorbent Tip in urine for 5seconds only . Than timed for 3 mins and only look at the line only up to 10 mins . In the reading of my results I saw 2lines in the result window. One line was faint and light and the other The C Control was Pink . An according to the instructions state that I am pregnant. I took about 8 test with the same lines. An As results were coming I timed the test and left the test flat down with over cap on yes . An than I purchased veria Quick tests four which also had the same faint lines . I will when I go to the doctors tomorrow the results.An let you know .Thank you

Blue dye based tests are horrible for what's known as evap lines. No one really knows why, but once dried these tests will almost ALWAYS pull 2 lines once it's dried out

Yes it is. I test my when the day my period was suppose to come on but it was implanted bleeding so i just took it anyway abd it came out positive. Mind you if you go to the hospital or your doctor appointment and they ask for a urine sample no matter if your bleeding or not your blood is more higher then the urine.

this is a rediculous amount of extra infornation if we take pregnancy tests and its faint its positive no matter how dark or light it is but you should oly worry if you get a dark line and then it starts turning light otherwise its a positive there is no such thing as a false positive but false negatives are more common.
is this woman even a real midwife? anyways....if your unsure or feel unsure just take anither test otherwise just go to obgyn but there is no such thibg as false positives eitheir take the sign or take another but its deff not a neg.

@@pinklions123 You need to check with your doctor because you may be having chemical pregnancies (which are actually very early miscarriages). I was so happy to see the faint line on my test. I went to doc same day and got blood test. They told me yes I had been pregnant but the fertilized egg did not implant well in my uterus so I lost it.

I had a fiant positive(read in 3 min like directions said) yesterday, today i had a neg test (digital and ept) I am 13 dpo and my period is suppose to come today or tomorrow. well didn't come today lol. i have pcos and we have been trying for a month i am just really nervous that i am and i am loosing the baby. any info or input????
i understand too well how you feel because thats how i feel right now.
im on clomid 200 and 5mg femara. i had 3 150 shots of gonal and finally the trigger shot 7 days ago. i been waiting and hoping the shot is out my system and that the test reads a true positive. pcos is really something awful to go through.. blessings ♡
