I chat with Anna Khachiyan about motherhood and family. She recently became a mother and I was just about to give birth when this was recorded. You'll also hear a bit of baby in the background, a bit of pregnancy brain in the host, and an all-around atmosphere of doomer optimism concerning having and raising babies.
Anna is co-host of the brilliant Red Scare podcast and can be found @annakhachiyan on Twitter.

The baby interruptions made it more wholesome. Two of my favorite women to listen to. Great collaboration.
"It's okay son, it's normal to rebel"
"Screw you mom, I'm going to obey"
I'm currently pregnant and this episode made me wish so badly I could find other women like you to connect with! I feel like a total outcast in the mum circles, nobody is on my wavelength.
As a gen Z stay at home mom I totally did rebel against my moms "pursue a career" advice, and so glad I did. This was one of the best conversations I have ever tuned into. I wish there was more podcasts with sensible females that touched on topics about motherhood
I’m a father of 4 and love this convo! Keep it up!
I remember when Anna did this tweet on creeps trying to indoctrinate your kids at younger ages, and the usual cadre of irony leftoids ghouls spouted the same reply over and over again “you’ve only been a mother for 2 months”. Yeah the arguably most important months of a child’s life.
Hopefully you'll have her on again Alex, this was brilliant, curious to see another conversation between you two :)
18:05 It was such a great feeling for me when I realized I would definitely become my parents. At that point, I didn’t have to fight it anymore.
I nearly cried at that moment because I just peered into the future and having to laugh because one day it'll be the same for my daughter and her daughter and on and on lol
Watching this as reseach for Friday
Congrats on getting Anna!
Anna never looked better.
Hello ladies! I’m a 27 year old in a serious relationship (live together but not engaged) and I feel constantly torn between wanting to have kids but also dreading the idea due to fear of the future of American civilization and the idea that the stress will trigger my latent OCD. It’s a pretty isolating feeling. I’m not sure what to do to resolve this.
I keep thinking about the war and horror my ancestors lived through and they had lots of kids. Times may be hard, but they’ve never not been hard :)
Also, very much worth it. You can’t know what motherhood feels like until you’ve done it, and then you’re transformed into this new being. I think being able to surrender to this new way of being (and not being in the center of your existence anymore) is probably the thing to work towards.
Take it from a father of nine: most of your mistakes bounce right off them. Children are resilient. Console yourselves with the realization that billions of people have done it before you. You don't need to reinvent the wheel.
My crazy zoomer mom is an amazing grandmother to my four kids and we live down the street. I hope that’s encouraging. For many people it can be very depressing to see your parent doing it “right” with the grandchildren. Prepare to mourn and then get over it. I had a very special relationship with my grandparents that I could just never have with even healthy parents.
Wow! You are pregnant Alex! Awesome.
@17:20 and how did it turn out?
if you could go back in time and talk to your younger self and your mom what would you say?
Wow... way to leave us wanting more. 😉
Alex, have you read any Marie-louise von Franz? She was a student of Jung's and has some really fascinating books about the feminine archetypes. The ones I have read so far are about the feminine in fairytales and they're great because to me it's sort of a way of understanding female behavior. The fairytales have a powerful meaning a lot of times which can be really interesting to get into, especially since I feel like it isn't so common for women to have that mythological representation.
that sounds like some jordan peterson stuff. and i think women have appropriate representation in myth. the first gods were fertility idols and like half of the greco roman gods were female
@@burritodog3634 they do! For sure. But as far as the mainstream religions go, they're not as widely represented as the masculine figures like Jesus, Muhammed, etc.
Fun!!!
Women would invert if there was a pool of competent 25 to 35 year old men ready for marriage.
There is an irony in that some of the most stable and worthy male material works in the trades which are considered “low”. Women need to reassess this.
Anna should have a few more kids... those good genes that contour those attractive cheekbones should not go to waste.
Is this live ?
yes and no
Nah, sorry. It was scheduled to premiere earlier, but RUclips had a glitch so it seems mid day on a Sunday is what it is :)
she is still pregnant in this video.
Unplanned pregnancy? How does that work?
@9:51 wow, it's victims all the way down.
These people are not victims. They are you new rulers
have you ever heard of editing?
Anna's vocal fry is really annoying, otherwise, this was a great interview.
You get used to it lol
Alex, you need improve your interview skills. Not trying to be critical. You often say yeah, yeah and agree with the interviewee. It sounds like you being dismissive or bored even though you are not. You say yeah, yeah and repeat what they just said. Better to just keep the conversation natural. Maybe Anna is intimidating because she is a current it girl.
yeah.
what does anna even do
@@burritodog3634 She Podcasts. She makes money off that. Lol you're trying to sneer at her. What is your job?
