I like the work Cardona has put in the past few years, but he's at the tail end of his career as well. WWE is going to use John to shine a light on the future of the business.
I think most of Cena's matches next year are going to be against others who are in the latter stages of their career, like Styles and Orton. I suspect you might be right about WWE being unwilling to bring Cardona back though.
Releases are unfortunately part of the pit falls of being in the business. There are other promotions now so it's not quite as bad as there are options and opportunities available, it's never nice anyone losing their job.
I think Damon Kemp will be more appreciated if he goes to Japan. I don't know that he'd do well in AEW, and since TNA are working closely with NXT, I don't suspect that will be an option anytime soon.
