The film centers on the intertwining lives of poor Raj (Kapoor) and privileged Rita (Nargis). In the film, Kapoor's poor, innocent "little tramp" character references Charlie Chaplin and was further developed in other Kapoor films.

@@gotimlol5318 1970s are different as Renowned poets shied away from writing film lyrics except Gulzar. Earlier in 1950 to 1970 they used to write lyrics for movies.Later in 1970s Songs mostly were chalu with few exceptions.

The great filmmakers of the times were stalwarts. They were far far ahead of their time. This film appears to be well kneaded romantic drama style of English theatres with Indian theme marvelously performed by Nargis and Raj Kapoor... Deeply romantic and times may fade but this masterpiece can never ever loose it's freshly flavor 🤗🤗

Same here - I was brought up in the UK since I was 2 so I can't speak Hindi [and I don't listen to Hindi music] but I came across this 5 years ago - after searching it as I remembered seeing a clip of it on an old UK Channel 4 documentary about Bollywood in the late 1980s - [back then I did not hear the full song or remember any of it except 'O Chanda']. So I searched for Nargis and O Chanda and found it and it was one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard although I can only understand a few words [when no subtitles are given]. I just came back to it today after 5 years.
I am also also Sri Lankan but my grandmother on father's side was born in India.
they are Tamil but also have Portuguese Indian heritage as well as Tamil heritage. but I also tend to watch Hindi movies and my girlfriend who is Mauritian, her mum traces her roots to Hindi speakers from Bihar and Mumbai. I also have a bit of ancestry from the Mumbai area from ancestors who spoke the Korlai Portuguese creole language and I think they probably would understand Hindi as well.
