I sampled a few Creed’s the other day in a high street department store and none of them lasted more than an hour or so. The sales associate emphasised that they were all hand crafted from natural ingredients like a fine wine. We didn’t discuss batch variations but to be honest I don’t really care as it’s such a disappointment that they don’t last on the skin. People say to just spray more but at the prices they ask, I’ll vote with my feet and just walk on by! I almost feel like the customer is being taken advantage of - being sold on apparent exclusivity and brand reputation and history while the product is essentially sub-standard. I think Creed need to re-evaluate their mission and ethos. ☹️

This is the detrimental situation that the consumer has created, unfortunately. Diabolically, the company may be sitting back allowing it, hell they maybe even strategized how to market their shit to get this much craze, but at the end of the day the people took it an ran w it. YT reviewers did their part in adding fuel to the fire, whether it be for free bottles or not, I would’ve never cared about creed if there wasn’t so many non affiliated or partially affiliated people pushing it like salesmen and women

I own 2 creeds. Silver Mountain Water and Aventus. Both last 8-10 hours easily. I can smell SMW on me all day. At first, I didn’t think Aventus was performing, But I found out that I go nose blind to Aventus within just a few minutes. I only know it is performing because it gets me compliments hours and hours after putting it in. Also, I cannot smell it after a few minutes, but when doing my laundry a few days later, can still smell it pretty strong on my clothes.

Reformulations happen for practical reasons (like material scarcity or safety regulations) but usually they're done to lower the bill of materials and raise margins, even if it's just by pennies.
Creed got acquired by a public company, sure, but they were thinning out the soup for years before the buyout. They got memed online super hard by the fragrance community, and even before that they had a nearly godlike reputation, so they felt secure enough to pull the breathtaking move of both watering their formulas down *and* jacking up the prices. They're completely shameless and not worth supporting, in my opinion.

I’ll say this. The first time I smelled Aventus was July of 2012. I was at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, and there was a Creed boutique there. The sales associate sprayed it on a card and I was hooked, purchased it on the spot. It was extremely smoky, just the right amount of pineapple and extremely strong, the most amazing thing I had ever smelled. The batch disparity debate is definitely legit. In subsequent years I’ve purchased additional bottles and nothing ever compared to that 2011/2012 batch, and that is very frustrating. I had a batch from 2015 that was close but it was lacking on the smoke. It doesn’t help that Creed increases their prices every few years while watering down the product. I’ve moved on from Aventus to MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver and I am quite happy with it.

The newest batches don't compare to the authentic decant sample of Creed Aventus I bought from Bonanza a couple years ago. I don't know what batch it was because it was never listed, and I did not ask the seller. All I knew it smelt amazing. It was the best fragrance I had ever sampled in my life, and wanted a full bottle, but was not wanting to pay the ridiculous price. The new batches of Creed Aventus don't wow me like what I sampled, and the juice was not even the same. The sample I had the juice was yellow, and it was strong. The old batches of Creed Aventus made you smell like the best smelling man in the room consistently. Anybody that gets to sample an older batch of Creed Aventus unknowingly like I did would be lucky. That experience wowed me, and made me realize what all the hype was all about. Shame I don't get that feeling in the newer batches.

I work at a department store right by the creed section and I'm quite close with the creed staff. I've been told the reason it smells different is because some ingredients have gone illegal, some have gone out of season, some are just much harder to find so they have to use more of another ingredient to balance it out. To me, I believe some of that is true but it's obvious creed has definitely cheaped out on some of their fragrances. It's actually an iffy subject to talk about batches because so many people come in and bug my co-workers about if they have a certain batch and it's like no... We don't. Side note: creed also increased their price in August by $30 and again at the start of October by another $30 so it definitely seems like they don't really care about giving you quality for the price you're paying

    • @Ekiboy1
      @Ekiboy1 Год назад +14

I would say, either they should reformulate it properly, meaning make it as good as possible to correspond the price. Or just end the production if it's impossible to make legally. What they are doing now is just cheap, riding on the hype train. And Aventus bros and reviewers will shill this in hope of free bottles. So Creed makes profit even with a bad product.
I own 0 Creed frags and will never buy one for the price, the value is not there and nobody cares that I am wearing Creed, even if I tell people that LOL

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but Aventus is also one of those fragrances you can go anosmic to very quickly. I used to think that was the urban myth that Creed and die-hard Aventus fans put out there to justify the poor performance as compared to the high price but it happened to me when I owned a bottle. I applied just as I arrived to work one morning and gave myself six or so sprays and within 30 min, I couldn't smell it at all. A friend and I went to the break room to grab a cup of coffee and catch up and a beautiful co-worker stopped us and said, "I'm so sorry to interrupt but one of you smells amazing and I have to know what it is" so I guess there's something to it. Still, I was good having owned one bottle of Aventus and then it was time to move on to new experiences. Another stellar video Aaron!

I doubt that would account for all the variations. It is more likely they either had to change formula, or did so to increase profits.

Montblanc Explorer is full of ambroxan. To most noses, ambroxan seems to smell good or ok, but to some people, it really stinks.
One thing is for sure, more and more modern perfumes are using this cheap synthetic ingredient: Explorer successfully copies a niche perfume and uses the same boring juice of modern perfumes.

@@etpourtant7512 That's fine, because the alternative is very expensive.
I don't blame people who buy expensive fragrances, because I see it as "maxing out" in one of our senses, and when I see it that way it's a small price to pay.
I also don't blame people who want alternatives with 1/10th the price, because 20% less for 1/10th the price is still a bargain, and you can get 10 scents for 10 the lifetime for the same price.
I blame people that buy clones that are in the price range of an original brand. A clone should be 1/5th at least the price of original, and less than $70-80 total.

A person is better off buying a clone
or Mont Blanc Explorer. In 2010 I believe Creed Aventus had three batch variations..
I have a 2010 batch Z01( heavy pineapple batch) of Creed Aventus.. Very strong and it lasted on my skin for 8 hours compared to what is out now.. I understand why so many design/clone houses tried to copy this fragrance.. Example Parfum Vintage..

I prefer MBE over Aventus. It's a little darker/heavier/smokier than Aventus.
I bought several samples of Aventus, sure enough each one smells very different the entire way. The performance varies significantly, but I'll use their Aventus oil as a base and spray over it which really bumps up it's longevity.
At first I thought it was poor quality control from Creed. But given the drastic increase in price combined with the decrease in performance (and well everything else across the board) it was them trying to cut corners wherever possible. Creed was probably pumping Aventus out as fast as it could make it, just sourcing from lower quality and throwing in varying ratios as they sourced it. Along with using lower quality materials.
That aside, Aventus' longevity dramatically increase after you let it sit 6-12 months. My current bottle went from a 1 hour scent to a 12+ hour.

She works for Creed and wanted me to smell some samples. I wasn't super-impressed by the first four and then she said, "Would like to smell our best seller?"
    I said, "Yes, please."
    It was Aventus, of course.
She sprayed it on scent card and handed it to me. I thought it was amazing! I've never smelled anything like it. Wonderful. Batch variation? $420 a bottle. She gave me sample bottle so I'm going to try it for a bit. I'll see how it lasts, projects, etc.

I did this at the beginning of my Journey.
Aventus now has a Mandarin Orange note instead of Pineapple (imo)
They removed a bit of the smoky incense that it was known for, and is needed to help cut through the citrus acid.
Aventus also has 'potted soil' patchouli at the end dryoff, which i don't like.
Explorer at discounters is cheap af, i paid like $35US for a bottle, i mean at that price it's a 'good' fragrance, but i wore it in high heat during the summer and in the car it was getting cloying because of how much citrus acid white musk there is in it.
In the opening my batches are very hard to tell apart, where you can notice small differences as it drys down.
Now that my nose is more trained after testing about 700+ fragrances during my journey, id love to revisit compairing to see what differences i notice now.

I decided to buy a bottle, which as soon as I sprayed it smelled as great as I'd remembered, but barely lasted. I wore it for the first time to a birthday in the summer, you would think a £180 bottle of perfume would last longer than 3 hours, but it really didn't. Further to your point about the sample smelling completely different to your previous sample, I bought two bottles 2 months apart from each other, one was very smoky and lasted about an hour, the other was much cleaner and fruiter but lasted a couple hours longer. Considering how many clones there are that smell very similar, and last much longer going for around £40-£50 a bottle, aventus really isn't worth it anymore.

The ones I distinctly remember smelling different were the first two, they seemed to be stronger and smokier with great projection and longevity. The last few years batches have been pretty good performance wise for me with around 6-8 hours. The 2018 batch smells slightly more like berries instead of pineapple/apple. People who say they can't smell it whatsoever after a few minutes or an hour or two is totally opposite to my experience. The first 2-3 bottles I owned did have a greenish tint to them, with the last 2 being almost completely clear. If I recall I remember an ingredient becoming illegal in Europe that affected the smokiness years back. I own explorer, as well as a few other clones of this. Nothing has been able to do a job past 85% to my nose. I do think Dua did a decent job with their layering fragrances when it comes to Aventus (Aventus+BR540).

I have plenty of designer frags and Creeds as well, I will say that Creed frags smell more natural and way less synthetic. I can usually get 14 hours plus. I can still smell it on clothes the next day. Most men do not apply fragrances correctly, meaning make sure you apply after you bathe. It is going to project and smell different if you spray on an hour or two after you bathe vs immediately. Most designers have a high alcohol content, creeds have a more neutral alcohol content and smell more herbaceous and natural. Also creeds are situational frags.Reformulations happen quite frequently but their is no mistaking a Creed fragrance. I will say I have purchased in the U.S at a 50 percent discount and never pay retail. So $200 US is a decent price however full retail is pushing it.
