I am a Owner Operator OTR, I ran Reefer for seven years, when I stopped hauling Reefer I said never again will I pull a Reefer trailer. It is not healthy, the frustration the blood pressure. I have ran many different types of trailers and freight. I am now 68 years old, been driving since 1980. I would be glad to talk to you or any other drivers, you have to keep your self mentally and physically strong. Be safe my friend.

Martin I used to work at a warehouse where it was a drive unload facility. They had the option of using the lumper service. Some loads actually called for the lumper service. It was for products like Gerber Baby foods and McCormick Spices. Those loads came in with around 48 double stacked pallets. They all had to be broken down to well over 70 pallets each.
There was a time I had been working in the freezer section on a Saturday. Driver comes in with a floor load and blew off the lumpers and decided he could do it himself. Heres the story. It was a floor load and it was packed nose to tail of Tortinos frozen pizza.6000 shoe box sized. He started at 8 AM and by noon he had only 6 pallets built. The lumpers left at noon but he still didn't hire them. He was the only truck still left. i went to lunch and when I came back I spoke to my supervisor about helping the guy because my job was only to haul freight that was on pallets off the dock in the the actual freezer. I took my pallet jack that was double length and brought 30 pallets over and started to dig in. This was starting to move faster and my supervisor came out and between the driver and the two of us we knocked out that truck in roughly two hours. The driver was grateful for the help and when he was getting his BOL signed he handed me $50. This was part of the money his company gave him to hire lumpers. So instead of getting out of there by 10AM he left at 3PM. I got 3 hours of OT since I was only supposed to work till 12.. This was back in 1998.
I hope you ,Allice and family had a great 4th

@@michaelrocker9000 back in 1990 at 15 years old I went to Miami with a friend and his dad. His dad said lumpers charged $150.00 to unload and he asked if we wanted to do it, I can't remember if it was a 48' or 53' reefer, but the watermelons were damn near to the ceiling from the front of the trailer until just before the back doors. The melons were 4' high at the back doors. We had to put 50 melons in a crate. It took us somewhere around 4 hours to unload it. I have no idea how crates we filled, we were hustling.

The lumper system is even more stupid than what you said in your video. Because the customer takes a portion of every lumper fee they collect. So it's bureaucratic B.S. the money goes full circle. I fully agree with you. The customer needs to just pay the lumpers. No need to play money games. Love your guys content. ❤

Lumper should be paid between the shipper and receiver , driver shouldn't have anything to do with lumpers. Between that and waiting all the time is why I got out of reefers.

Stuff like this is why I never would leave car hauling for regular freight. I load and unload my truck when I want. And trust me I will find a place to park the cars if places want to be a pain in the ass.

It should be Law that you guys are paid Min wage like 20 bucks a hour from the minute you are on location even if you are outside their gate. Plus a Fee for the truck and trailer setting....
