Always found it funny how the Pac-Dot eating sound from this NES port actually sounds like the sound that plays when Pac-Mania is waiting for the game to start on the World Select, except obviously without the Stereo effect that makes the sound travel from left to right.

I recommend the Classic NES Series/NES Classics/Famicom Mini version of NES/Famicom Pac-Man for the GBA because the GBA version of NES/Famicom Pac-Man saves your high scores. Pac-Man Collection, Namco Museum, Namco Museum: 50th Anniversary and the Game Boy and Game Boy Color-related Pac-Man games will not save your progress. Plus, the original NES/Famicom version of Pac-Man will not save your high scores, which sucks.

In today's standards: Yes, it is boring. But this game is really good when you compare it to other 1980s arcade games.
