I wish I had known that information 28 years ago. We were looking for help for ages and everywhere ... - Thank you so much - I need this for myself now anyways.

My father in law is going through cancer treatments. I watched this because of my daughters with AuDHD but sent it to my spouse who is caring for her father because life changing news like cancer can be really disregulating. Her dad is having a hard time with needing help. I thought tips like just give a glass of water and a snack could be really helpful without feeling like treating him like a kid.

I have Septo Optic Dysplasia, which caused me to be totally blind, and it caused me to be on the autism spectrum. And I also have complex PTSD. I usually have the fight or flight reaction when I’m dysregulated. I usually try to ignore my emotions when I’m dysregulated, not allowing myself to feel those emotions, trying my hardest to bottle them up to where I’m only happy 24/7 and never struggling in life. WhenI do feel those emotions, it makes me angry because I’m supposed to be ignoring those emotions, not feeling them. My calming stratigies include music, swinging, getting outside, using my favorite sensory fidget items, using my sensory peapod, my weighted blanket, and so on.

How long did it take for you to learn all of this? I am a recent graduate and I am overwhelmed by all the information out there. Seems like I don't know enough to get a job yet and I definitely want a job where I am working with children in a setting such as yours. What are some resources you learned from that have helped you in your careers? Thank you

We have over 10 years working with children in the OT field! We recommend taking as many continuing education courses as possible and finding a good mentor! We learned most of what we now know through working in the field, asking questions, and taking courses!

    Hi
Thanks so much for all you do. I was just wondering if you have suggestions for a child who doesn’t respond to proprioceptive input. He is constantly in a heightened state and any proprioceptive input worsens it. Thanks
