How to Repair Wicker Furniture - Replace wicker/rattan with durable wood slats on sofa and table

- My outdoor sofa, made of a steel frame and wrapped with vinyl wicker, deteriorated. The damage was likely due to UV light and/or weather. Faced with the decision to trash the sofa or repair it, I decided to attempt a DIY refurbishing. After removing the rattan/wicker material, I prepared the steel frame for priming and painting. Finally, I attached slats of wood to the metal frame using custom 3D printed brackets and stainless wood screws. Someone else might consider using off-the-shelf metal straps cut to length, instead of printed brackets. The fix spared the sofa from the landfill and resulted in a piece of furniture that is far more durable than even a brand new wicker sofa. My patio furniture is now ready for many more years of use! Further, I plan to complete a similar fix on my broken outdoor wicker table. The same do-it-yourself fix can be used on outdoor chairs, loungers, and beds.
The plastic clips, connecting the metal frame to the wood, were custom made. You may purchase clips by contacting me at JMorgan@ZeshEnterprises.com. Please include the dimensions of the tubes on your furniture. Each piece is $4.50. Thanks!

I have this exact set and was getting ready to toss it but now I’m going to take a shot doing this. Thanks for the great video.
Love this project. I am gonna do the same for my wiker sofas.
Love this project. I might do this but actually wood on the whole thing
I was with you 100% until you spray-painted the wood lol, still awesome to see someone fix instead of just tossing it! Will have to take a stab at doing the same with mine :) thanks for the tips
Good job revitalizing your old wicker furniture. Wood is extremely expensive now. How much money did your renovation cost? Also, did you use weather resistant wood and cover it with a urathane to protect it from rotting? Those cushions are going to prevent the wood from drying out quickly so you need to protect from rot.
Cost was ~$25, including exterior grade treated lumber.
Great job! Mine isn't that far gone yet but if i can't make it presentable I'll do as you have.

How much were the 3d printed brackets?
If he printed them, probably 0.20-0.40 a piece looks about 35 grams. Just depends on how much you paid for filament
