@ted37846 I grew up with the 90s cartoon, but the new one actually takes a lot of inspiration from the comics more than the 90s cartoon. I love both. And I think David Tennant is a great replacement, and actually is Scottish, so he has that going for him, too. I think the new series has a lot of heart and love for the characters. I wish Della and Lena had been in the original series, but theyre great additions imo.
Am I the only one who thinks that the final climbing sequence punishes you way too severely for dying? The first time you do it, the lava starts pretty far below you, giving you a fair amount of time to get climbing, but if you die and start over, it puts the lava practically inches below you and it rises the same speed as before, making it impossible to make more than a few jumps before it catches you.
I agree. This game is better than the NES version and I'd give it a 9.5/10. I really don't have any complaints with it at all. I wish more NES games were remastered like this.
Glad to hear you beat it. That has been the advice I had been giving people. If you hold diagonally it never fails (for me at least). It works just as well with D-pad or the analog stick.
The lava ride on extreme mode even faster. I think the key is to remain calm and try to not do any extra pogo jumps. It's faster in some sections to just platform normally with Scrooge and make sure to grab the ropes as quickly as you can.
Alright, I found out what to do in the final part. On platforms other than the WiiU, the lava rises faster and the normal path is a trap. In order to make it in time, you need to: at the part in 13:02 bounce to the right and grab the third chain from the left and at 13:10 bounce on to the platform on the right, you'll be able to bounce up to the rightmost chain in the final set from there.
Alright, I'm just gonna say it. This bossfight is simply awesome. And the fact that it reminds me of Castlevania where you fight Dracula in multiple forms is the icing in the cake. Wouldn't be surprised if the developers looked at that series for ideas, and I don't blame them.
For a minute, I thought Dracula Duck was going to do a Shadow Queen move on Magica. Don't get it? Well, in Paper Mario the 1000 Year Door, the final boss the Shadow Queen told Grodus (after he summoned her) that she will not be told what to do (since he thought whoever summons her will do their bidding) Since Magica summoned him to do her bidding, I thought he would do the same move.
This game has some good music. Plus, Scrooge is freaking athletic! For an old man with a cane. I remember the cartoon saying Scrooge stayed fit by swimming in his money bin and lifting money bags.
the music is so damn great, the full theme, the slow piano medley, you can say what you want about the game, but this was done by someone who loved the Original.
jan helfers Medley? That's not a medley that's just the moon theme. This game seemed to have an obsession with only one theme, when there are some other kickin tracks. Like Amazon.
What I love about this level all together is the atmosphere of it along with the music. They both give off a feeling of intensity that makes the stakes even higher besides the fact that scrooges nephews have been kidnapped by magica and to top it all off with the icing on the cake the final boss has awesome music as well along with being intimidating and powerful. All I have to say is I tip my hat to the people who put a hell of a lot effort into this remake to make it very memorable.
Man that last stretch was like 20x harder than the rest of the game and they don't even give you a checkpoint or ways to gain more 1-ups. Fuck that part
I've played on all 3 difficulty levels and on extreme the lava is pretty fast, but if don't panic it's still not terrible. Any real mistakes and you are dead, however. There is a huge shortcut on the lava sequence that makes it incredibly easy, however. /watch?v=Hk3atHmvBtA
She's an evil enchantress She does evil dances And if you look deep in her eyes She'll put you in trances Then what will she do? She'll mix up an evil brew Then she'll gobble you up In a big tasty stew Soooo... Watch out!
You know, I never really gave Dracula Duck a thought back when I played the game on the NES except to wonder why the final boss wasn't some one from the show. But with this new design and fun battle actually make him intrusting. When I learned of this remake, I had hoped that they would flush him out more, which they kind of did (we learned his real name) but he doesn't even get any lines. If we are going to sit through these cutscenes, at least use that cool villains there.
If Magica grabs the dime, you lose the sequence and if you have any lives left, you start the chase sequence over. There aren't alternate endings on this version, but you do get a different message after beating the game on Extreme mode at the end rather than 'thank you for playing', but it's really nothing important.
6:32 Impossible. Like Glomgold, the Series' Main Antagonist, wanted Scrooge to get the Lost Crown and Green Cheese before him. Like he wanted Magica to take all the Treasures he attempted to steal for himself from him, along with the Triplets. It'll be him and his Robot Impostor to take care of in the Sequel when they capture Webby.
IMO, this climax surpasses the NES. This feels much more epic and exciting. And every moment Dracula Duck blows himself into the screen as a giant made me jump!
I think holding up is the only way to climb ropes. A little bit of practice there helps. I died my 1st try because I didn't expect to have to do anything else. I thought I had beat the game.
Do you guys play with the D-pad? I've used the d-pad only and never tried the control stick. I've also never had Scrooge fail to grab a chain a single time in over 9 completions of the game. If you aren't trying the d-pad then I'd recommend trying it out since it has never failed me once.
That piano version of the moon stage theme feels like im seeing the same game from 23 years ago i played as a child just from hearing that beatiful piano moon stage theme. :')
that last part with the chains is terrible. It's not too fast, it's just that McFuck won't grab onto the chains consistently. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but that doesn't mean the controls aren't terrible when it comes to grabbing chains.
I had an even worse experience. I didn't feel like buying it but I got it for free through Amazon mobile app store..... Yeah, touch screen gaming sucks
yeah, i can't get any far in that part because grabbing that chain at 13:00 is so fucking sketchy to me. and on top of that, the magma rises at a merciless pace.
Beat the game tonight....I could have vast into the theme music but my F-ing roomate just has to make these B***y comments about the game, music, and the general plot. I mean If you don't like then get the f**ck out of my room and me and the others just listen. Sry I just had to vent.
***** I'm not those guys bro, I was born in Los Angeles. Besides I'm a straight black up guy....Not an inch those guys anywhere....I was just venting when I posted this.
He probably doesn't know that this was considered a masterpiece back in its day. The designers of the remastered version made a point to change as little as possible. (Someone should have told the voice actors as well. They could have been a little more invested.)
For those having problems with the escape from the lava, if you haven't used the d-pad before, now is the perfect time. Just hold diagonally in the direction you want to climb, it makes chain climbing super easy!
Okay, after seeing what a great job they did with the story and additions to the game that Wayforward did with this, I'm dying to see them remaster Darkwing Duck. Imagine, a final world with Negaduck as the final boss instead of Steelbeak. Hearing Jim Cummings say all of DW's great catchphrases again. Gosylin and Launchpad doing more in the story. Maybe even a few extra villains like Tuskernini, Paddywhack, or even Darkwarrior Duck. That would be incredible!
Don't you just hold up right on the d-pad to climb the chain and then jump button to jump to the next chain. You never need to let go of 'up-right' on the d-pad and scrooge automatically grabs the next chain. I've failed at this 0 times in over 15 hours of playing this game.
You lose a life and have to re-start that part or the entire level if you get game over (you have to start the game from the beginning if you are playing on extreme and are on your last life).
Thank god I just finished that final level and the long chain saved me because the lava almost touched and after 8 tries I finished with one life left. Yeah I lost two stocks during the chase against Magica and Glomgold.
Man, you lost a life after Glomgold said, "You go first!" So very funny! Also, so very scary about this! You nearly got beaten by Magica and Glomgold that time trying to get the dime away from them. And the piano rendition of the Moon Theme (that would soon be Della's Lullabye) is pretty touching, as well as the DuckTales theme that brings back memories of the show when I was little. Most of the original voice cast, including Alan Young, would be proud. R.I.P. to most of them.
Agreed. Especially Darkwing. Gathered with the fact they got all the original voice cast back for this made the game a perfect 10 in my eyes, I don't care. Its fan service of the highest degree. Magica De Spell...
When Dracula uses the bat attack thingy where Magica turns him into like million bats, do the bat's wait for you to get near the gap where you need to go to dodge the attack, or do the bat's just slam to the ground earlier in the middle than the edges?
There are all kinds of ways to avoid him. It's just this way I never get hit. If he gets too close to the side it's best to move outside of his mouth. You can also bounce on his bill if you like, but it's harder to avoid getting hit.
It definitely waits on you to at least some degree. If you accidentally go the wrong way for a second, it seems you nearly always still have time to reach the safe spot as long as you don't panic. That said you still can't stand still for 3 seconds and then move to the safe spot.
So let me get this straight: they made a remake of Ducktales, one of the msot succeful games of all time. They made it in 2.5 D, with self made cells. They got almost all the old voice actors to perform (except those who sadly passed away), they remastered the Moon theme excellently, they gave the game a refreshing yet simple story that would fit in the cartoon and then they end it on the extended version of the show theme. ...HALLELUJA!
Well. I have managed to complete the final part of the game. What a relief. I must admit that part really sucks and it really spoils the whole game, also the boss fights even on easy can be really hard. At least for me. Cheers :)
Oh you have no idea. You should read "The Life and Time of Scrooge McDuck" by Don Rosa, a 12 chapter epic graphic novel about how Scrooge became the richest duck in the world. To put just a few epic moments in his younger years into context: He rode a lion through Africa, he survived a tsunami by outrunning it, he bet up Jessie James when in the Wild West and he wrestled with Teddy Roosevelt.
I am disappointed Dracula Duck didn't turn against Magica. he doesn't even talk, what the hell? Here we have a comparably young and weak witch summoning an ancient vampire lord and commanding him to do her bidding. That's really arrogant of her, is it not? But apparently he's cool with it for whatever reason.
The lava at the end of this level moves way to fast on the PS3 version. It took me so many tries to beat it and I didn't hesitate at all. I even used the second rope at one point, where I see you used the first. There's something buggy there.
me too I died in that freaking final zone with the last life very bad decision for Disney preparing a timer in speedrun against platforms, Ubisoft at least made checkpoints.
I would of love if Duckula deified Magica acting under his own accord. "For your reward in resurrecting me... you will die last!" "What is a Duck! But a miserable piles of secrets and greed!" "Have at you!"
T.U.G. Indeed there bringing it back but so far we don't know any other details all we know is a newer generation will get to experience what all of us who saw this cartoon felt.
Go all the way to the final chase with only one life, only to get beaten in the race because I got stuck on a rock. Then I realize that I'd have to start the level all over again just to retry that chase.. Screw that, I'll look the ending on RUclips... Thanks for the upload, by the way.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who encounters this problem. But do you you have the hard pogo option on? If so, it's even worse. Most of the time I nearly have to crush the buttons in hope it responses accurately.
This game look like Super Paper Mario, I mean the "A" button appear on the background, the way you defeat your enemies, and the way the characters look. The only different is how colorful the game look.
The part after the final boss is controller throwing madness. That one brick in the way of the chain in the race to the dime is worse than any enemy in the game :-P
I got a good question for you: did the Ducktales theme song during the credits affect your account any? Or did this video just get a simple "matched third-party content" tag?
I like how the original voice actors fell into their old roles its like thirty years later nothing changed shame a lot if them aint here anymore
RIP
Alan Young (Scrooge)
Russi Taylor (Huey, Duey, Louie, Webby)
June Foray (Magica, Ma Beagle)

I really respect June Foray and Alan Young for coming back to do this video game.
Bless them both for all their wonderful years of entertaining the child in us! :D
Why does this level remind me of lava reef from sonic & knuckles, Sonic mania and sonic 3 & knuckles

Welcome to the world of "NES Hard."

It's like you're experiencing an episode of the TV show while playing the game. And it feels glorious.
I love Scrooge and Glomgold's banter in this stage. I really liked this game.

The lava ride on extreme mode even faster. I think the key is to remain calm and try to not do any extra pogo jumps. It's faster in some sections to just platform normally with Scrooge and make sure to grab the ropes as quickly as you can.
I've just finished it in Normal and the final escape took me hours. Now I'm exhausted X(
Great job
Forreal ugh. I've finished dracula duck with no damage and 2 lives so many times, just to mess up in the final rising lava part

I'm glad I'm not the only one who encounters this problem. But do you you have the hard pogo option on? If so, it's even worse. Most of the time I nearly have to crush the buttons in hope it responses accurately.
For once it is actually worth watching the credits! Shame they recycled the same images several times though...
This game look like Super Paper Mario, I mean the "A" button appear on the background, the way you defeat your enemies, and the way the characters look. The only different is how colorful the game look.
Just like the old days classic and the theme song still makes me want to dance.
The part after the final boss is controller throwing madness. That one brick in the way of the chain in the race to the dime is worse than any enemy in the game :-P
2:34 Donkey Kong Country Return
When those lava creatures see Scrooge they are like: WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP/VOLCANO!!!
I got a good question for you: did the Ducktales theme song during the credits affect your account any? Or did this video just get a simple "matched third-party content" tag?
