Exactly right. The series is too big and had too many characters that could use their own novella. Characters like sneezecloud or fallowsong won't ever get a Super Edition, novellas were perfect for the many minor background characters to get a chance to shine. The graphic novels are nice though, we've seen some characters, most recently Nightstar, get some much needed character development, but still I wish we had novellas around.
@@TheAshfurApologist ngl Sneezecloud has the best name out of anybody in the series, his name on a novella would definitely capture people’s attention, I would be cackling if he got one
The novellas were so much fun and I think they do have potential still. The fans would eat up a novella if it were to dive into the forgotten stories of background Dark Forest cats since they're interesting cats and we all still have the mystery of why Snowtuft was there. Why not go into detail about Silverhawk attempting to make his kit leader? Give Maggottail or Sparrowfeather a backstory as well.
_Silverhawk's Pride_ would have the potential to be fantastic, and I'd love to read it. Snowtuft could work too, but seems like something that would either be awesome or awful and nothing in between (depending on the execution), but it'd still be interesting.
The problem now is that Erins have stories that could be novellas (at best!) streatched thin to become supereditions. Onewhisker? Leopardstar? It's all sooooo pointless but could be fun as a novela. And the storytelling is suffering for that. The only situation where the roles were reversed was Goosefeather I think. His story deserved a Superedition, but oh well... . Also I hate hardcovers, I can't read them it's super uncomfortable.
The Erins could have easily made a ‘Leaders of the Clans’ for Onestar and Leopardstar, maybe they could have put Blackstar’s in there too so it’d fit nicely into one package as “the cats who led beside Firestar”. If not, then the last one can go to Harestar, a leader who’s story is largely unknown. The only current leader who’s past we don’t know (except the Dark Forest part) or know any family of.
I agree with your first options, but your last is making me raise an eyebrow. For me I hate paperback, as they always bend and can break easily, that’s why I somewhat enjoyed the hardcover Ultimate guide even though the book was a lousy resource

I would love to see them make a whole novella collection based off of Warrior Cats villains and call it something like Blood Of The Clans or Scourge Of The Clans. I want to see novellas like: Darktail's Reign BrokenStar's Path SleekWhisker's Pact.
they also fumbled the bag HARD with Redtail's Debt (completely forgetting a huge component of the mystery of the first arc + ravenpaw's characterization) and Spottedleaf's Heart (i don't need to say anything about that) which probably put fans off from reading others, I'd bet.
I think another big problem with the novellas is they lack research/consistency and thus feel lower quality. Think about Redtail's debt and how badly is clashes with Canon for example.

Similar to how so many people who thought the series ended with The Last Hope, so many people didn’t know novellas were a thing even if they knew the series continued.
