It has a relatively simple plot compare to other big series, but it conveys more relatable and complicated(yet good) message. That's what I love about this.
I think this seems to be a fun delinquent series. It doesn't need a complicated plot, but just do what it needs to do well for the action with fights, character narrative, and story themes.
The comparisons with Tokyo Revengers are easy to make but to be honest in my humble opinion I think they are kinda lazy and do neither series any favours. They are both in the delinquent genres but the plot direction, the overall vibe and the approach to the characters are completely different. TR tends to be more on the dark and heavy side while Wind Breaker tends to be more light-hearted and wholesome in nature. This isn't a problem, it's just that it makes comparing the 2 kinda awkward because the stories are trying to achieve different things. I'm just trying to enjoy Wind Breaker for what it is after manga readers told me to curb my expectations for the plot after episode 3, and I think that's the best way to sell Wind Breakers to other people. Saying "Oh it's Tokyo Revengers but better" isn't really gonna do much for the series because it could create some exaggerated expectations, at least when it comes to the plot.
TR is the inspiration for WB as stated by the author. But yeah what i love about WB is that it has a realistic approach and message. No need for science fiction like time travel or stuff. In terms of the progression and the message i guess you can say its like frieren without the fantasy and magic. The journey with the characters is what makes it good.
You care too much, people make connections and similarities to things they like to something that’s new. Everyone does this differently, the shows are both revolved around delinquent characters, so of course people are gonna find them similar in different ways. I don’t see how that is a bad thing people make these similar connections because it helps them make an opinion on the show.
There’s no such thing as awkwardly comparing shows. You just find it awkward when someone says a comparison you don’t agree with otherwise it’s their opinion and it doesn’t affect you or the show
