Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, we all know what it takes to look fast on GoPro, and man you were flying. Can not wait to go to Scotland next year (if circumstances allow of course) with my bike.
Was lucky enough to ride this trail on a trip to Scotland last year. I also appreciate how hard it is to ride a trail like this and keep the lens clear. very impressive.
I found your videos by accident, I haven't ridden in anger off road for 20 plus years in The Lakes mainly but I find your videos so enjoyable to watch. Hey, maybe when I get out of covid I might look at another bike again. Keep up the videos please.
I have always loved your top chief videos, discover the channel with it, drawn back to the channel today. This trail was my 2020 goal then so kind of pandemic got in the way. Hopefully 2021 will be the year. Could not agree more with you last statement, could not care less about strata, it is the adventure. Well done son!
Brilliant effort, leaves you a target still. Since I started watching your videos you've inspired me to get out there. Nothing of these standards, just the good old north York moors, Hard tail Giant Fathom 3 helps. The more I ride it the more I like it, taking a bit of getting used to its a bloody big bike. Thanks for the inspiration. Enjoying the mountain rides, nice to see places I've actually been on foot.
Thanks for showing the whole trail, you never see half of it when they're broadcasting the race. This trail looks like so much fun! Would be great to see a full run without others on the trail. Cheers 🍻 great riding!
My experience of Top Chief: I was on my second (ever) run of it, very last gondola of the day up, no one behind me - I got a flat tire just after the boardwalk and couldn't break the bead for the life of me (thankfully a member of staff did eventually come down and help out - legend), two minutes later I face planted. With my confidence shot I slowly and cautiously made my way down the rest of the trail. Can't wait to go back.
In no way whatsoever does that give it any credit for just how steep/awkward that trail is. 😂 Your commitment on the boardwalk puts the fear in me. 😐🤣 Good run!
First time I've seen a video of this from beginning to end. Looks technical but very rideable. I was going to avoid this one whenever I get up there but it looks way more approachable than I had expected. Thanks for the great video :)
Yep, completely rideable the whole way. I will warn you of the GoPro effect though, I’m sure you will manage it no problem, but it may be harder than the video would have you think. I’ve been caught out with the GoPro effect a few times now 😳
@@McTrailRider Thanks for that :) Between the GoPro effect and the speed you were carrying (with a lot more skill than I have), I am sure it is a lot tougher than it looks. I’d agree that this track is harder than the Dh track at any given speed. Ben Cathro thinks so too. The Dh track does get much tougher at higher speeds though, and then there’s the optional huge jumps at the end.
That was great & I'd agree with you about 10-20secs and lean more toward 20. You got held up significantly on 2 occasions and the one with the wee lad put you off line enough to make you slower for sure. Great riding, especially in the continual rock stretches. I wonder if a trail like this, with 8+ min DH times, isn't one place where clips (vs flats) maybe could improve your times. A lot of small foot/ankle/calf resting can happen with clips, especially on that sustained rocky stuff where you have to do pedaling, or lots of weighting/unweighting. I prefer flats myself, especially for descending, but if I was chasing DH times I think I'd have to clip in.
I think clips are faster in most race/endurance type scenarios, this one definitely included. I’ve never used them though, and I wouldn’t want to try them on this trail for the first time😬

Have you done a follow up to try and beat your time yet Andrew? Would be great to see.
Fair do’s you were shifting, unlucky getting stuck behind the other riders, great time al the same👍💪
Yep, still a good day on the bike 👍
I’ve never used them though, and I wouldn’t want to try them on this trail for the first time😬
@@McTrailRider Yes, it would be awkward to use Top Chief as testing ground.
