500g organic soybeans - shp.ee/ahk6nj5
3 tbsp brown rice vinegar - shp.ee/jfsi4e5

1 gallon size ziplock bag - shp.ee/fzp9qfm Хобби
Very easy, detailed instructions! Love that you included tips on making sure the tempeh is safe to eat. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! You're most welcome. Hope you give it a try
I like that you suggest re-using the bag. Good video, very clear instructions, music is suitable for the video style. I will definitely try this method out. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I've recently made my own Tempeh, from soy and chickpea, from following your brilliant videos, both came out amazing. I had to make an incubator from an old cool box, computer fan, and heat pad with a thermostat, to create the right conditions. The UK is pretty cold this time of year. I fried some up this evening with Sichuan pepper and Korean soup soy sauce, to go with homemade Bibimbap, tasted amazing. Your videos are awesome 😃 Thank you! 😊😃
Wow, that's dedication right there. How amazing! Thank you for sharing your methods, I'm sure it'll be very helpful to those that live in colder climates 💛
It is cold here in Canada colony as well mate
Did you use the plastic zip bag in the dehydrator?
Is that safe to use in there?
i cannot get banana leaves here
Cheers
I'm so glad that I searched for "homemade tempeh" and got to a vegan channel
Wow it sounds much easier than I thought! In my country they sell 300g of it for almost 10$ which costs more than meat it seems way too expensive.
Excellent presentation that Tempeh looks cool I have never had it before I make my own Natto and love it. Will be trying this for sure and that trick with the ziplock bag is great Thank you
this is so great. Thankyou

I just came across your channel! This recipe is great, it's exactly what I needed. My country has limited vegan options and if there are it's really expensive so learning how to do things like tempeh and your other recipes helps massively :)

This bring back memories of helping my late grandma making & preparing Tempeh for sale in our hometown... we use banana leaf and special woodland shrub leaf that bring the very delicate aroma to the Tempeh.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing your story! I've never tried tempeh with banana leaf or any other leaf, but I'd really like to learn. I bet it tastes amazing 😍
Smart presentation ❤🎉
Thank you for the tips!! Will try it out soon 🤩

Thank again to you. I have just finished my second batch of tempeh. This time I use lentils instead. I soaked the beans for 24 hours and boiled for about 25 minutes. The rest is your instructions.I even reused the zip lock bag. Thank you 🙏 very much.
Wow, that's incredible! Thank you for sharing. I haven't made tempeh with lentils yet, so excited to hear that it worked amazingly for you 😍
Wow..Really interesting..good to know . Thank you
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear you found it interesting 😍🌈
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Is there any possibility of making Tempeh in colder climes. It’s winter now where I am. Also is there any other alternative to the starter you are using. Thanking in advance.
It is too cold here for the fermentation to take hold, so I used my food dehydrator with great results!
Thank you.
I'm so glad I found your channel!!! It's literally Soo hard to find authentic malaysian recipes but vegan thank you for your vids. Please post more recipes ❤️
More recipes to come for sure! Thank you so much for all the love 😍✨🙏

Thanks for the video!! I have a question though. How long do I need to soak the beans overnight for? Is there a specific number of hours?
Can you show me what type of ragi starter to buy thank you very much ❤️
Awesome video ❤ I tried it multiple times! Its incredible.
I have a question: is home made tempeh edible raw?
Thanks a lot again 🥰
Brilliant thank you x x
You're most welcome! 💕🌸
Do you allow the pressure to release naturally or immediately with the pressure cooker?
Can we use an old tempeh piece and use it as a starter for a further batch?
Is a tempeh starter the same as what you use in tofu

You're most welcome 😊
Where can I buy tempe start
What is the temper starter. I live in other country.
Thanks sister
What is exactly tempeh starter
Do you still have to steam it prior to cooking or because it’s fresh you don’t have to ?
Cool!
This was so interesting!
It's quite fascinating to watch the process right! Thank you for watching 😍
Thank you for sharing💞
Do you cover your tempeh with cloth...below and above tempeh with cloth ? Must it be in dark spot.. Appreciate your reply
Wonder if I can use balsamic vinegar, or other kinds of vinegar ?
Use banana leaves? For what?
I tried to make tempeh last year, total failure, cos its too cold.
I might use a low heating pad just to make sure it’s going to work. Place banana leaves than the bag of tempe? Is that what you mean?
It’s quite humid atm, so m gonna try again. Will also be doing my tofu (first time)
Wht is tempeh starter called ?
Nice video, thanks. Question : you don't like using single use plastic. Why do you even make it in plastic ? Couldn't it work in some better quality material, like glass Tupperware with a lid with holes ? Why do you still choose the plastic bag, is there some quality reason I don't understand maybe, or is it just easier ? Thanks !
Many years ago I had an Indonesian room mate, whenever she came back from Indonesia she would bring back what resembled a large ball of steamed dough which she would cut into strips and add to stir fries.. It was so yummy, any idea what this was and if you do would love to see a video on how to make it!
Thank you!
Is it wrapped with banana leaf??if yes, it might be Dangke ,Indonesian traditional cheese made from Buffalo milk
i am subbed now
i had no idea you can do this without a dehydrator.
If this is legit,u saved me hundreds of dollars
But i may still need a dehydrator as its real cold here now
Maybe i can borrow one from a mate
Can i use those plastic zip bags in a dehydrator? Is that safe?
i cannot get banana leaves here
Cheers
What was the yield of tempeh in grams for 500 grams of soyabean
what is temphey starter
Thank you I am just starting my first batch of chickpea tempeh.. so far so good.. I have it wrapped in Glad wrap in a dryer 37 degrees... have also made the starter that I am using in this recipe..
Hi Gabriella. Did you make your own starter or was it a store bought one that you used to make the initial batch?
@@ochoonda I made my own starter from Tempeh..
@@gabriellamclellan1102
So all store bought Tempeh can be saved and used as starter for later batches🤔👍😊
@@ochoonda not, they are normally steamed to prevent from growing
Is 37 degrees the temp required?
Don’t hv tempeh powder what is the substitute
What's a tempeh starter
Is that a snak of cheese ....what is that exacltly and how can we eat it?
My dehydrator has temp of 30 degrees, so I hope it’ll succeed in there!
Hi! Thanks for the nice video. I was wondering about the temperature. We keep our house at 72 degrees. Not sure where should I place the tempeh while fermenting and for how many hrs. Can't wait to try this!
Hi Carla. You can just leave the tempeh on your kitchen counter on a wire rack for air flow. My kitchen is a lot warmer than that and fully ferments between 36 - 48 hrs. It may take longer in your kitchen, but at 72 degrees it should ferment just fine. You'll know when the tempeh is done when the the white mold (mycelium) doesn't look fuzzy anymore, and has a solid appearance similar to nougat. If you're using a Ziplock bag, the plastic will also adhere to the tempeh like it's been vacuum packed. Hope this helps and good luck!
😃 wow!
Thank you 😄🌈
Thank you for your video! I am starting to eat more tofu to get healthier and tempeh seems really interesting. Do you have any recommendations in buying it?
Find Asian stores, find the freezer section, they normally stock it.
Why not make your own, it would come out cheaper, and as she says more delish.
Thank you for this! Do you think it would ferment at slightly lower temps? The tempature where I live gets to down to 22.3 celsius at night
You're most welcome! Yes, it'll definitely ferment at slightly lower temperatures. You may have to wait a little longer, just check every 24 hours 😁
Greetings from Egypt! Thanks for the video! This seems easy to follow (and also cheap!) but I don't think I would find Tempeh starter since this meal is extremely niche here. Any idea how to replace the starter to get going?
Hello! There's a way to make tempeh starter from existing tempeh, but I'm not too well versed on how to do it. Maybe you can look into doing it that way! All the best
I made it only with tempeh starter, I didn't use vinegar. It smells bad 😢. Usually I store soybean in refrigerator to keep it safe from any insects. Is it the reason not to get a good tempeh or not using vinegar is the reason? Please reply mam,
Hi thanks for your video - very helpful 🙏 as we live in a cooler climate I had to place the bags in the food dehydrator without the fan to keep them warm - after 24 hours the edges were white and solid so I left it on for another 12 hours but now there is less white and less solid ? Do you think it was too warm for too long perhaps ? The bags are wet inside but it almost looks like I’m back to where I started ? Any tips ?
Hello! Glad you found this video helpful, and it inspired you to try making your own tempeh ☺️ It sounds possible that the tempeh was too warm for too long, and it killed the mould. Perhaps next time, after the initial 24 hours, you can try taking it out of the dehydrator and placing it somewhere cooler to continue fermenting. You'll know the tempeh is done when the white mould (mycelium) doesn't look fuzzy anymore and has a solid appearance similar to nougat. It will also feel warm. If you're using a Ziplock bag, the plastic will also adhere to the tempeh like it's been vacuum packed. Hope this helps, and all the best on your next try!
@@TheKampungVegan thank you for the tips 🙏 great channel - keep providing inspiration…. I’ll try again with tempeh …. My next batch is a black bean tempeh 😊
Very nice video
Thank you! 💚
Can I know where to get this tempeh starter? Yes, I hv given u full support. I would like to try out this tempeh making once I get d tempeh starter.
Hello, thank you. I've linked all the ingredients in the description box of this video, here it is in case you missed it - shp.ee/beyahbm
Excellent, simple instructions. How about if I live in a place where the temperature goes from 30 to 34 Celsius, do I have to do it differently?
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful. 30 - 34°c is the sort of temperature in my kitchen and I make the tempeh exactly as I do in this video so it'll work for you too 😊
@@TheKampungVegan So if i have to buy a dehydrator,as in Canada now it is so cold, maybe -20 and my house is not well insulated
So is 30 - 34°c the temp to use in a dehydrator? And can i safely use those zip bags in a dehydrator?
Cheers mate
helloo.. when you ferment the tempeh did you just leave it on the counter? they do not need to move it in darker place?
Hello Julia! You can just leave it on the counter, it's not necessary to move it to a darker place. As long as the temperature is warm enough, it will ferment. Hope this helps! ✨
Wonderful protein source for vegetarians. I am surprised why tempeh hasn't still gained popularity here in India where meat consumption is significantly lower compared to any other country. Can we use an old tempeh piece and use it as a starter for a further batch?
It is available on all online platforms
Its expensive as of now
i’m using the same pressure cooker… may i know which menu did you select for the 12mins cook
Hello! I chose the manual setting to input 12 mins 😊
What did she add to the bean's? I couldn't understand what she said. She said it to fast.
PS What is the yield from this recipe? In grams or whatever your measure is
i am adding cost of soybeans(10 LBs= 17 dollars here) and the starter(Very expensive here
So i need to figure out what those 500 grams of soybeans and the starter yielded
Cheers
♥
Tempeh, kegemaran saya❤️☺️❤️
Saya juga 🥰
What have you put you tempeh in besides a plastic bag? I also prefer not to use plastic, however I have never seen banana leaves in my store. Is there something else I could use?
Hello, you can loosely pack the soybeans into any well ventilated container (covered) about 1 inch deep. Hope this helps!
@@TheKampungVegan thank you!
