    Thanks for this video as it is very helpful to me in my chicken broth adventures. My husband is a scientist and he says that the glass most likely would not break if you left the lid loose in the freezer until it freezes. This is because as the liquid expands during the freezing process, it takes up more space leaving less room for the air. The the air pressure increases in the jar, which then still cracks the glass. So, it's not just about leaving extra space for the liquid, you actually have to allow the air to escape as it's freezing.

      Also on the Ball canning jar website it says not to use the curved neck jars in the freezer, just the wide mouth straight ones

  • @JohnnySahn

    As others have stated, you need to have a mason jar without the "shoulder." It needs to be straight. I noticed the straight ones actually state near the top, "For freezing-----fill here" while the jars with shoulders do not state that.

    I like how you list out the pros and cons for each method as I’ve considered all 3 before but didn’t know the cons. Thanks 😊

    I've froze my bone broth in glass Mason jars un sealed with a lot of head space still then once frozen oil put the lid on it. That has successfully resulted in uncracked jars.

    This is a great video. You can also put the frozen cubes into square glass Tupperwares instead of the baggies or the jars.

    I’ve heard someone that the issue w jars breaking is the fact that there’s a shoulder to the jar (regardless of how much space you leave). Alternative would be jars without shoulders like the weck cylinder jars. Haven’t tested it myself but thought you might be curious!

    • @freeslave7985
      @freeslave7985 3 года назад +3

      That is correct! Can confirm Weck jars do not crack.

      Yep, jars with shoulders are not “freezer safe.” Have to use all the way straight side jars.

    You can use these jars for canning. After filling completely with hot broth in *clean* glasses, simply lay the lid on top, and place several filled glasses in a big pot with hot water. Place the lid on the pot and heat it. Have the water boil slightly for 30 minutes. Then close the lids on the glasses and let everything cool down. So just let it sit. When cooled down, take glasses out of the pot and place them in your pantry. 😊

    Maybe instead of glass jars ceramic jars can be used. I guess it won't crack like glass.

    Put the liquid in the clean jar super hot. You can even preheat the jar. Pour the hot liquid in and put the cap on fast. It'll seal.
