  • Waking up on June 19, 2022, Keith discovered there was a new Federally Mandated Official Holiday. Wondering what this “Juneteenth” thing was about, Keith did some research and fact checking. For this episode, recorded on Julyteenth 2022, Keith reports on the history of “Juneteenth National Independence Day” and then looks at what actually happened from a civics perspective. As Keith sees it, what happened on June 19th, 1865 is the opposite of Independence Day, the opposite of liberty and what the Declaration of Independence is about.
June 19 was the day U.S. Army General Granger arrived in Galveston to take military command of the Republic of Texas, taking control by force away from the people and their elected representative government. June 19 as a “holiday” marks the completion of the invasion, overthrow, and conquer of Texas and the other members of the CSA after the War for Southern Independence. Having “National” in the new holiday’s name is appropriate as it celebrates creation of one nationalistic all-powerful empire, destruction of the voluntary union of sovereign states - the opposite of the principle of self governance by the people America was founded upon and celebrated on July 4th.
On June 19th in future years Keith plans to remember what actually happened in 1865, morn the trashing of the Constitution and destruction of the voluntary union of States the Founders had created, and fondly recall what the United States is supposed to be about - the right of the people to determine their own form of government.

You could have also added that Juneteenth became an issue in 2020 due to TDS. The media was all up in arms trying to show how racist Trump was by daring to hold an election rally in Tulsa OK on June 19th. Being a Texas resident, it was a thing here back in the 70s but has been pretty much ignored in recent years. I'm glad you gave a nice background history to show why this makes no sense as a National Holiday.

A communist replacement holiday for Independence Day, 4 July.
