i agree when they said that we dont need to justify every single thing that we do just because the society demands us to do it. when i had my tattoo, my friend asked me the meaning behind it, told her that it doesn't represent anything at all but i had it on my skin because i felt good and happy about it. i mean...can't i have a tattoo without particular justification /meaning to it? i had it because i just want to! haha. thanks for this podcast! really learned alot xx
oh my gosh! i am THAT friend in our circle hahahaha i was just really curious if it has a meaning behind it so i ask them but just like you, they also told me the same thing. they were weirded out even because i literally ask my friends one by one. but yep, i also understand that some people just like to do things without any justification.

Whenever I watch and listen to your podcast, I see myself and my boyfriend's relationship in yours. I love how Kryz admits how her younger self is less mature than she is now, while Slater is insightful and tries to understand things from different perspectives. 😊 Few things I learned being in a relationship: learning how to meet halfway and to let small things go (those things that didn't really matter and didn't bother you much)
Btw, waiting for the Oliver Austria and Our First Date video podcast. Loved those episodes extra! ❤

Doing things simply because you want to is also related to Allport's theory of functional autonomy where you do things simply because you like to do it or just wanna do it. There isn't any underlying unconscious mechanism or reason for such a behavior. And it is very true that sometimes you don't need a grandoise reason for behaviors.

we need to have reason because as our minds are finite, communicating what might be the possible justification to what we do or say makes us understand each other.
i wannaa do things because i want to
still, this is a rationalization. we are justifying what we do or say, as the case may be.
and also, it's the "why" or the justification that pushes us.
and also, with regard to meditating, slater speaks truth! if you are able to not think of anything or not be distracted, you have reached enlightenment. in that sense, you have become "buddha". you can read buddhist philosophy. therr are different levels, and reaching the enlightenment is never easy and more likely than not, one cannot achieve it before s/he dies.
