You take approach velocity. Because when you land ur E into Q, you get a boost of move speed so you can run in and land ur grasp proc and W.

Agreed. If he'd just went with Sunfire, Unending Despair, and Jak'Sho instead of Thornmail/Sundered/Warmogs, he'd have been virtually unkillable and would have done almost as much damage.
