    Hello Liam. I appreciate it when you fail to see animals you were hoping to see as that's a common experience for us nature lovers. It would've been nice to see basking common lizards or a barn owl but if they're not there, they're not there for filming. By co-incidence I was hoping to see a lizard at the heath near Cobham earlier today. Perfect conditions for reptiles: sunny, warm and nobody else around to disturb wildlife. Despite turning over logs and delving in foliage I found only a juvenile slow worm after nearly an hour. On leaving, I did see a lizard - pancaked on the road.

    You do such a great job filming. I really like your different views and shots.
    Isn’t the presence of dragonflies a sign of clean water, or a good environment, or something like that? I understand it’s a good sign anyway.
    I would of really preferred that the music wasn’t so loud, or even there, because then I might be able to hear the birds in the background. Personally, I wish you hadn’t used any music in the background. I don’t think it’s needed.
    That is very interesting, I didn’t know that Mallards molted their feathers.
    Maybe you need to include a torch (as you call it, or a flashlight as we call it here in the states) in your gear, lol.
    I was wondering if you’d see any bats being the time of day you were filming.
    That Monocular was really cool! Wow! Your channel is growing and you’re doing such a great job helping others to see even in our everyday environment that we can see a great deal of nature. That is wonderful! Just please no more music, for me it was distracting. I like being about to listen for the natural sounds that are around you while you’re filming.
    Thanks for sharing!

    • @AShotOfWildlife
      @AShotOfWildlife  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Donna. Yes, dragonfly larvae rely on lots of aquatic invertebrates which means they need fairly clean water.
      With regards to the music, it's complicated. I did actually make a first edit of this with no music, which is fine for the bits filmed with the gopro (walking, landscapes, talking to the canera) but my actual camera I use for filming makes noise when it focuses or zooms etc, so you can't hear the natural sounds. I'm also often in hides with other people so you can sometimes hear them talking or shiffling their things. I do have a plan to trial a video with no music, but need to invest in a new audio recorder to do so.
      Thanks as always :)

Although I couldn’t match the variety of wildlifeyou were able to capture, I am blessed with some beautiful wetlands opposite my house. ‘Tis the season for snakes which I try to avoid but we do have a plethora of bird life. That's a pretty good selection of wildlife to see on a simple walk. 😊
    My wife & I have seen small flocks (6-12 birds) of shoveller ducks on the Ure (or Yor, to give it it's proper name) near both Askrigg & Aysgarth in Wensleydale, and on the Swale near Grinton. Both times they were swimming in a ragged line and clearly feeding as they were moving their bills from side to side in the water as they swam upstream. I would assume this is their normal feeding method on what is quite fast moving water ?

    I am not a purposeful 'trending' or 'hot right now' knitter. I did make 2 Tenga's and a Guthrey by Caitlin Hunter. However, I do like classic knits and I am swayed by the seasons. I have made 2 versions of Alice by Hiroko Fukatsu, those 2, one in Isagar Bomulin, the other in Trio, have been the two tops I have lived in this summer. I already made a knitted dress/tonic for winter. I think it was the Vanilla is the New Black, not sure of the designer. I winged it on the lower part as I like to have an A-line shape over my tummy! I have knitted it in various shades of blue and I think that was also from Isagar yarn, so not an inexpensive project. I also made the grandchildren a Christmas stocking each. I behan in Advent, as Kay from the bakery Bears Podcast, here on RUclips, created a pattern for us to knit along with. I then went on and made 4 in total for all the children. So I suppose my knitting us a bit mixed. I tend to search for patterns I like lately, the most recent being the Solar Tee by Laura Nelk7n which is almost finished except for the lace panels on the shoulders and sides and the Walilabou by Kalmknit, a free pattern on Ravelry. I am also making The My Favourite blanket, by Kay. We are dying our yarns and then incorporating them 8nto the blanket. Kay does a demo every month. So, many people are making this, but I am making it for the experience as much as having the finished, squishy thing! I love seeing what you are making and although the Sorrel is not for me, I LOVE yours and the way pink really suits you!

    Thank you for another video, Liam. I'm curious: how's the mosquito situation this year at the places where you visit and roam? In Croatia's capital, where I live, this year we have thousands. I don't know why is it like that this year, but I don't dare venture into the forest. During any time of day, literally, I'm being "eaten alive". It's really overwhelming.

    • @PalaeoClive237
      @PalaeoClive237 11 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe to do with this year's heatwave? I remember getting eaten alive in summer when I lived near Romney Marsh in Kent. Lots of pools/ditches for the pests to breed in. I needed to buy mesh to cover the windows and stop them attacking me while asleep. Where I live now there's more risk of wasp attacks as I was stung twice last week by the angry insects! You might need insect repellent near those forests.

    • @kubotwostringz7040
      @kubotwostringz7040 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@PalaeoClive237I don't think it's the heatwave alone, but your message triggered a "lightbulb moment".. We had a huge flood a month or two ago, one of the biggest in the last decade or two, if I'm not mistaken. The slowly receding water might have created or left enough pools for the mosquitoes to spawn. And the river is around a kilometer away from where I live. This would be my guess (plus the heatwave you've mentioned) ... Idk, but I'm grateful for the inspiration 🙂👍

There were rats breeding in a waste-filled skip over the road from me this spring. When the lorry came to collect it about a dozen shot in all directions from it, terrifying a cat which leapt up on a wall to avoid facing a 'fat ass rat'!
